I literally just ate one of these an hour ago because I didn't feel like cooking. I like them because they are all vegetarian and they taste good cold. That's how we usually ate them in the field. They definitely aren't as good as the ones I had in the Army but they work for what you need. They lack real variety in a case but if you can get them at a good price buy them. The peas in tomato is great and I wish I could just get straight packets of that.

I haven't tried it yet. Maybe I'll give it a try sometime during the summer after the cabin is finished.

These meals look outwardly like they’re way less than a MRE but they contain a lot of food. To someone truly hungry (not just missed lunch like most of us when we say we’re “hungry”) this would be a treat. People have stated they should contain heaters and beverage mixes but when you consider they’re intended for famine relief or natural disasters, water is a separate concern. One use heaters vs. matches? In most instances of humanitarian relief I’d say matches are preferable. I’m with you on the salt Curry. Salt makes so many foods palatable that wouldn’t be otherwise. Take care!

I will always take matches (ability to make fire) over the heaters.

Each provider makes slightly different menus. In the case of Wornick rations a friend gave me, there are 5 menus, which contain a combination of two of three entrees; Lentil Stew, Beans & Rice in Tomato Sauce, and Pasta in Tomato Sauce. Though vegan (no animal products are used), the entrees make me think of canned pork & beans. Not bad, but they would get old fast.

I agree 100%! They can get real old real fast. Salt and pepper help, but yes I agree!

@@robertsbushcraft I suppose that the people these meals are intended for don't have much variety in their regular diets, though so for them these rations are great.

Say Roberts Bushcraft, tonight might be a good time to come up here and test out your winter gear. NW Wisconsin is scheduled for -22F with 35 to 45 mph winds to -60F windchill. I think my old Swede arctic gear would have a hard time in this weather. Heating the veggies with rice might take a back seat to the cookie and the other squeeze packs. I'm not going anywhere for a couple days. I think the MRE you have there would be edible for almost any nationality. Time to hunker-
