I had an experience with jiggers. To give you some context, I was at my grandparents' house in a rural agricultural area in Kenya. I had been playing on a makeshift swing with my bare feet dragging on the ground all day. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my foot. At first, I thought that something had pricked me and that the pain would fade away. However, the pain got worse over time. Eventually, I showed my foot to an adult, thinking it was a splinter. They used a needle to remove it, but to my surprise, they popped a round inflammation on my foot, and tiny round eggs came out. I was so grossed out that I never walked around barefoot again.

Chiggers are small, bright red insects that resemble mites. They live in vegetation, and do bite/burrow into your feet to feed. However, this feeding is short lived, and only results in red, itchy welts on the affected areas. They do not live in your feet, nor reproduce in your feet. They are a relatively minor nuisance in comparison to jigger fleas.

btw to everyone, pork, especially here in the states, pigs are dewormed constantly, so if you do eat raw or undercooked pork, the chances of you getting a parasite are minimal. I won't act like I know the number, however, I do know it is low.

But ive never seen an infection like that, just wash your feet and ankles real good with soap and water after being out in tall grass.
