people also forget that the 2003 hulk is the only movie, where you can actually see every detail of the transformation! ..in the 2008 movie you can't even see the transformations until the last one. they also not as intense as this one.. This 2003 hulk is the most underrated movie i think.

This is a detail lost in later Hulk movies and is why this movie, a character study of the Hulk is the superior movie format for his character IMO.

I think the people behind this movie, Ang Lee in particular really resonated with the tragedy that is Bruce Banner and it shows on screen with the emotional scenes. Even the weird blob fight at the end has excellent symbolism regarding the trauma Bruce faced. Totally underrated!

@@mattgerrish908 I know that was random, but where I was going with that was how much of a joke MCU turned Mark Ruffalo's Hulk into in the recent Marvel Studio films. "I'm sure you tried your best." That glare that one of Black Panthers' guards gives Banner in the Hulkbuster armor when he tripped. Him no longer able to become the Hulk because he doesn't want to be a tool. That's so lame.

Also before you say it, Professor Hulk was a thing in the comics as well and I've read one of the reasons why there hasn't been any other storylines from the Hulk's Comics adapted is because they're pretty weird. Ever heard of the Hulk and the circus of crime? It's about an evil ringmaster who hypnotizes the Hulk into joining the circus where he juggles elephants. That can't be adapted.

That's actually one of the many powers he has in the comics. He gets stronger, bigger and faster.

Eric Bana will always be the perfect Bruce Banner in my eyes for one simple reason. He showed real, raw, genuine anger, and when he did, it was scary.

Norton is a great actor but I too really just like Bana in this. His range and subtle demeanor contrasts more. Ruffalo is total shit, Norton is good but not great. Bana... Bana nailed it

Man I love that final flex/stretch the hulk does at 1:55 when he's done growing bigger

As a kid I was terrified of this scene. I would hide behind my mom cause I was scared. I felt like I was stuck in that room too with an angry Hulk.

Mcu hulk is stronger. Went up against the second strongest version of Thor in mcu. Fought hulk buster, something built especially to contain the hulk and would've won had he not felt bad about the people and get distracted. Snapped his fingers and was still able to fight in the final battle of endgame. Stopped a leviathan with ease. Went up against a wolf much stronger and larger than the gamma dogs. Almost knocked surtur of his balance. And thanos is much stronger than him which is why he lost. Went up against a smarter and stronger version of him and runs at the same speed as this guy. Beat the hell out of two gods.

It would be weird if the strongest villain the avengers face gets taken down by the hulk. Thanos has the title of being the mad titan for a reason. So shut up.

@Tyler Ba this is not the comics. This is the MCU. Second, Hulk didn't do the thunderclap because the ship would have broken into pieces. The ship was already half broken and his thunderclap would have made situations worse. And thanos is stronger than hulk by far. Thanos was able to take Captain America, Thor and Iron Man all at once and still beat them with almost no struggle. Off course hulk stood no chance. First learn then talk.

This is the best visual representation of the Hulk when the comics say, the angrier he gets, he stronger he gets. He grows with his anger, unlike the way it was when 2008 Hulk transformed, and MCU Hulk too.

I honestly feel like out of all the three hulk's, this is the one that actually has the "angrier I get, the stronger I get" thing. Both versions of the hulk in the MCU (both Edward notron and Mark ruffalo) feels like to me that every time he gets angrier, he just maintains the same strength but fights better (and more aggressive). I still like both versions of the hulk tho

i think it's because the kids you would never hear from when the movie first came out or years after are now expressing their opinion that carries on from when they were children. like me. i've always loved this movie. didn't know it was so poorly reviewed until last year and was shocked at the general critic response. i can't imagine those people have changed their minds. but as people my age have gotten older, movies like this and the star wars prequels and other movies are being seen as favorable or less hated as much as they were back then because now social media is seeing a wave of opinions that were silent for decades.

I think it has to do with the coloration of the Hulk. In some shots he looks like either play-doh structure, green latex, or he is just too bright of a green color.

I remember people talking shit about this movie, I think it has aged really well. We can see that they actually worked hard on this movie with practical effects and CGI. It looks more realistic than any Hulk created since.

I love how Talbot just perfectly and safety lands on that conveniently placed sofa XD

The people meant he looked too cartoonish for a movie that, with the help of CGI, should have looked near the MCU Hulk (Norton's and Ruffalo's) but they got a pretty cartoonish one! As a guy who also had a problem with this, now that i know more about the movie, it looks really good and looks like an acctual Hulk!

We were spoiled with this Hulk and The Incredible Hulk. The MCU turned him into an absolute joke.

The ONLY time on film his anger translating to strength is EVER ACCURATELY PORTRAYED.

This is for me the best transformation for the Hulk. There is something in that psychopath stare that he gives to Talbot and how he slowly took away his hand out of him and the face he makes of genuine fear because he can't understand how is he so inhumanly strong. And the transformation looks so fucking real hell if this wasn't a superhero film it could be lovecraftian perfectly the fact of being incapable of understanding what is the Hulk

PEOPLE FORGET THERE IS 3 STAGES TO HULKS SIZE WITH MORE ANGER - THIS WAS THE BEST HULK OUT OF ALL OF THEM. REALISTIC !

Honestly, people only shXt on the CGI because the quality of animation has improved in the last 20 years. As far as I'm concerned, this CGI aged well for a 2003 film.

Bruce laments in this movie about the power and freedom he has as Hulk, and the Hulk here isn't a mindless beast hellbent on causing destruction. Bruce has a sort of morbid curiosity with his other half, it's a part of himself that's been locked away and he wants to know more about it. He isn't scared of the Hulk because it is literally is him, the 4 year old version of himself. The movie is a really fascinating look at Hulk, it gets kind of boring when for an hour you've got Bruce being afraid of the Hulk. It works in the comics but not in a feature length film.

One of the best movies in Marvel history.

As a kid growing up with coraline, i ended up loving watching hollywood movies about people transforming into monsters in anger or even body horror films as i grew older

I like how despite how pissed Hulk was he still only used enough force to knock Talbot out rather than turning him into jelly.

That's what I really miss about the Hulk from all the new marvel movies. It's a cool modernized design but they forget an iconic part of his power; The angrier he gets, the _bigger_ he gets.
