As she mentioned, shaving an Arctic dog's hair would absolutely destroy their coat.

Why not invest in some basket muzzles? I got some decent ones in all sizes for like 37 euros. (literally all sizes, huge to tiny) Those rope muzzles are uncomfortable for the dogs, especially when used for such a long time. In University we learn to only use self made rope muzzles for a short time and only if you don't have a decent basket muzzle available. Just a tip, the groom itself was good! That must have cost the owners a fortune, hopefully they come in regularly now.

Do you really think that for 5 years, how long we have a grooming salon, we didn't try to put the basket muzzles? After several hundred aggressive dogs, trust me, the rope muzzle is the only safe muzzle. Every other basket muzzle a dog can just pull down with his paws...

It really isn’t hard and i actually disagree with the advice in the video, you do not have to go to a professional groomer at all. If you brush your dog regularly and wash it and walk it enough that its nails won’t overgrow, the groomer wont do anything you haven’t done yourself. Tho if you have a dog who isn’t good with water or brushes groomers are a very good option

@@yoruk9136 I found after brushing my puppy every day till he was 9 months, that I’ve not done a good enough job. There’s like this dense impacted like fur on his hind quarters. I’m using a comb on it a bit every day now, and it’s getting there. But my puppy isn’t used to tugging, so takes some snacks and patience atm. I’m hoping the fact he’ll shed his entire coat soon gives me a second chance to get it right.

​@yoruk9136 I literally had to do this with my male husky when we got him. His matts weren't as bad as this. They weren't like a sheet like that. He was such a good boy and it took so long. It's been 3 years since then and he's gone from barely wanting to be touched to demanding attention. He still doesn't like being brushed but he clearly knows it's good for him. He just walks away when he's had enough.

Poor girl.. she looked so stressed and sad🥺 An enormous task for both and a beautiful transformation! 😍

Frankly his condition upon arrival suggests neglect

I had Norwegian Elkhounds. They never went to a groomer. I brushed them twice a week and during shedding season, every day. They had beautiful coats. Simply, don’t get these kind of dogs unless you are willing to properly care for them. Just cannot imagine how awful that’s for this pretty girl.

@@80sGamerLady Yes, it is definitely NOT an indoor activity!! We were in Iowa, so fortunately brushing in the winter didn't generate as much hair; but, had to use the kerosene heater to get the enclosed porch warm and do it out there.

But when you aren't disciplined with it or lazy then it builds up so fast and you get an impossible task for most people. That's why a lot of owners screw up their dogs coats because they end up just shaving it off.

I had a pyrenees wander into my life with almost as much matting, he had been alone for months. he wasn't nearly so matted, but it took me two months, working 10 to 15 minutes a few times a day to get him dematted before his first grooming appointment. thank you for taking care of this sweet girl

You have helped her a lot It was heart breaking to see her mouth tied for 7 hours. Please give them some free time and food water in between. Please use covered mouth guard rather than tie the mouth it hurts

They always give the dogs multiple breaks, food, water. They may not show it all the time, but they absolutely give the dogs, and themselves, breaks.

That poor dog😢. I’m sure she feels much better. This dog was incredibly well behaved for such a long grooming appointment. The groomers were excellent.

I'm glad you show this . I used to raise chows. They have same coat. I used to teach my friends that if you brush completely the coat every day it only takes maximum of 10 minutes. I get paid to brush out Huskies and other dogs of same coat. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR CHANNEL

As a groomer we make choices that we believe are best for the dog based on the condition they come in , how time consuming the process is and the physical labor we have to go through and what the poor dog has to go through in order to get the job done . Many groomers work on a tight schedule and don’t have the time necessary to go through this process and it’s perfectly okay if one decides that this dog needs to be shaved considering the dog is extremely matted .

Did the muzzle prevent the dog from panting all those hours? I've never seen that kind of muzzle before. Probably illegal in Scandinavia 🤷🏼‍♀️

At first sight, I thought this was a rescued animal. It blows my mind that someone could neglect the coat that badly. You guys did a terrific job, hopefully the owner now understands the massive difference between a healthy coat and what this dog walked in with.

That poor thing. She looked broken standing there, muzzled, being brushed. She ended up looking so much better than she started. I hope her person was able to keep up in grooming. I'm sorry, baby girl.

You are assuming that the groomers didn’t give the pup any breaks. They always give breaks. A treat, water, a pee. They were actually the first groomers I ever saw that gave breaks, and talked about how important they can be, especially for neglected, unloved dogs

Maybe the other groomers already know the coat can be saved using your method but have decided that having a dog muzzled and distressed on the table for 4 hours JUST to get the Matt’s out isn’t worth the trauma to the dog. 🤷‍♀️

thats exactly what I was thinking (and the use of rope muzzles is unnecessary) i work at a vet clinic and the doctors and techs always only use basket muzzles even on huge dogs, always works out completely fine. if the dog is too aggressive it needs to be sedated, just a thought!

and what solution would you have proposed then? Just leave it? Not an option. Shave it? Also not an option. Huskies have a very particular coat that can be irreparably damaged if shaved. As uncomfortable as it might've been for the dog, in the long run this was the best solution for her

​@@Giganotus The comment was addressing the "holier than thou" attitude of the groomer that *they* know that the coat can be saved with a little bit of effort. as if the other groomers are just too lazy to put in the work. Sometimes "irreparably damaged" is the price you pay for letting a dog get into this condition. If the dog is an inside dog, "coat damage" really is a non issue. Its not the end of the world. This entire debate about "shaving ruins coats" is a mute point if the dog is treated as part of the family and kept inside. If they were so intent on proving the dogs coat could be saved ,they should have done the right thing for the dog, and sedated the poor thing, because this entire treatment was utterly disgusting. That you would subject a dog to that pain for 4 hours to "prove a point" is beyond me.

That thing around her muzzle does not give me a good feeling. It looks kind of scary and sad.

I have a siberian and I use a rake brush. It works wonders, you do not have to take them to a groomer. Just get a good rake brush and the one they showed here with all the bristles for those stray hairs. Thats literally all you need. Make sure your brush your husky often and def atleast once a day or 2 when the coat starts to blow. This groomer was kinda brushing too harshly imo for those size mats, hence why the dog was biting.

I have been grooming/ bathing/clipping animals for about 40 years and you did an absolutely phenomenal job on that beautiful creature!❤

Thank you for helping this Husky. I would like to make you aware that leaving the dog in a muzzle like this one that restricts their ability to pant and cool themselves, especially when their coat is in this condition, can be very dangerous. You are lucky the dog did not overheat and pass away after so many long hours of wearing this restrictive muzzle. It also appears extremely uncomfortable.

She is shown licking her lips several times, so she could open her mouth some. Probably just not far enough to land a good bite. Also I've seen grooming vids where the dog removes the muzzle, the string would be more difficult for the dog to get rid of.

As a Husky owner for over 40 years this made me cry...I can't believe the condition of this gorgeous creature. Thank you for changing her life... because it did. Sorry but Her owner doesn't deserve her. Her eyes said it all from start to finish.😢❤

The awful plastic zip-tie muzzle for hours?! and the harsh raking with metal combs against her skin to free the matting look like torture! Poor girl!! @@jnorway7295she isn’t a rescue, she has an owner. A lazy owner, but an owner nonetheless. The laws around animals in many countries are not nearly the same as they would be in Canada (where I live). These groomers pretty much exclusively do dogs who are incredibly neglected.

That girl deserves a bonus after so many hours of deshedding. Amazing patience and dedication. 👏👍👍

Great before, during, and after video. The double coats of a large breed are a lot of work. Poor pup to endure the mats and such a very long and very uncomfortable grooming to correct the matting and built-up undercoat. So stressful. Beautiful transformation. So happy to see her clean, coifed, and relieved tongue out. ❤

You and your staff did an awesome job on this beautiful husky🙂. It's a shame that the owners were so neglectful for such a long time. If you can't maintain the dog at home or at a groomer then give the dog to someone else to care for it.

Maybe at the end. But when I take mine to the groomer, I don't give him water or a treat if it's say 30 mins or less before he goes in. Just so he doesn't get sick from being picked up and moved a lot, food/water right before might not help. He also pees quick outside the place before we go in, they have a nice spot to walk your dog if needed.

Does the dog get a break? Do she get water or a dog bone? That was sad that this poor animal was prisoner to grooming for 7 + hours?

We have a five-year-old Great Pyrenees who has never been to a professional groomer. I invest a great deal of time brushing her weekly and checking for ANY mats on an almost daily basis. Springtime is fun when she blows her coat! I knew what I was getting into before we got Sasha, and I LOVE grooming our pets. People should do more research about maintenance before getting ANY pet, in my opinion. Thank you so much for putting in all that time and energy to rescue this baby from her owner's neglect. Love and light to you all. 💜

Wow what a transformation..she looks amazing..the owner shouldn't get her dog back..the eyes on that poor baby when she came in was sad and helpless. She looks so much better now and even her mood lifted up..she was probably relieved to get all that cost off. You did an amazing job..it's amazing how much time and hard work we spend into making your dogs look beautiful and happy..people should read up on the breed of dog they want and think to themselves if they can even .maintain a coat..I want a husky but no way in hell can I deal with that kind of cost..such a beautiful dog

Yeah, even during low shedding it is still a lot, and it gets everywhere. Even labs shed! One of us is allergic to such. After months of research, settled 2 yrs ago on a small miniature poodle (grew just an inch over a toy). No allergies even if hubby puts his nose on the dog, and breathes in, as dog has a single layer of hair (not fur), and thus also no dander. Whatever little shed is a very thin strip on the comb and nowhere else. Small enough to encourage daily combing. But because of curls and a long anagen stage that can last years, needs grooming regularly (very short, to last 7 weeks, 8 tops). Pawpads & nails and a teeny trim above eyes and near mouth, we do ourselves in between grooming.

We don't know what the dog's/owner's circumstances are. This channel is based out of Serbia, which has been experiencing a lot of unrest over the last few years, and it's very possible that the dog and/or owner were in a situation that didn't allow for grooming. Be kind, and be glad the dog is getting relieved of her matting now.

Agree about the muzzle. Tying the dogs mouth shut seems inhumane.

I had to assist a vet in doing this for a Samoyed a few years ago. He'd fallen out of the back of his owner's truck and gotten a bad case of road rash. Flies laid eggs in his countless skin abrasions, and he was a maggoty mess. We saved as much fur as we could by doing what this groomer is doing, and only shaving the worst areas. But he was properly sedated. Having your hair pulled HURTS! At the end of 3 hours he was a lot lighter in terms of hair but he was maggot free. I did a Persian cat for the same vet practice who was heavily matted like this husky. He was sedated, as a cat is even less likely than a dog to cooperate with painful procedures. I got all his mats out with a mat splitter, but his skin was reddened from having his hair pulled all over. I'm sure he was sore when he woke up.

I will bet that afterwards that dog was feeling much better! Mats like that can pull and pinch, especially around the legs! She looked like she was bored & at times looked like she had dosed off! Gorgeous dog!! You did a great job on her!

7 hours is very long. So sorry all of you had to go through this. Great dog with great patience.

Nice to see the improvement! That must have been a difficult experience for both the dog and the groomer. Hopefully the owner will take better care of this dog!

I’m literally bewildered at the amount of fur they can produce and carry with them.

I am the owner of a Siberian Husky and was appalled when I saw this dog so neglected. Thank you so very much for the amazing job you did by letting this dog look like a Siberian Husky when you were done. Instant Subscriber for that reason as I cannot tolerate people who use a razor on huskies.

this spring and summer let us remember that many breeds will be blowing their winter undercoats and require deshedding in order to avoid situations exactly like in this video! even with regular brushing, my GSD is blowing coat and it's his itchiest and fluffiest time of the year so i can only imagine what you husky parents are going through!! deshedding is crucial care for many breeds but, it is absolutely vital for breeds with *double* coats! take care of your dogs because they cannot deshed themselves

I'm glad that you were able to help her but this could and should have been handled differently. Huskies are fear biters on good days and this whole experience freaks out well-adjusted and cared for dogs. Maybe give her some time to acclimate herself, let her sniff her surroundings and show her the tools you use instead of launching into a half-day rope muzzle and a full on audio-visual nightmare for her. You spent half a day working on her, would an extra 20 minutes of helping her sort herself out have made that much difference?

Adding 20 minutes to an already full schedule, and the owner is paying for all of those minutes. I am sure the husky had some time out from her muzzle for drinks of water, a potty break, and a snack.

You are assuming they didn’t. I’ve watched hundreds of their grooms of terribly damaged, neglected dogs. They do all of that. They take breaks, give the dog treats, water, go for a pee.

The comments about the owner being lazy is harsh and unprofessional in my opinion. I have a husky and I was told by a groomer that huskies should not be groomed more than twice a year. So there’s obviously conflicting information out there. This husky was neglected for sure, but calling a client lazy is bad customer service

There are very lazy owners out there who never try to maintain their dog's coats at home and bring them into the groomers just like this all the time. I agree with them 🤷🏾‍♀️ And often times, the groomer will tell them that they need to maintain their dog's coat at home, but it goes in one ear and out the other.

I don't think you should criticize people with dogs they are neglecting...just encourage people and stay positive!

I have a Husky. One thing to remember is that in the beginning, they do not liked to be brushed. They will bite the owner. I had to start a little at a time. Got a Chris Christian brush which helped a lot. I have never washed my dog, but am planning her 1st trip to the groomer.

Look at that beautiful leg at 18:22, oh my heart breaks for this poor baby with the sad face. She's so embarrassed that she's been left to look like that. Finally she looks like the true beauty she is!

You did wonderful. But please invest in some basket muzzles or anything other than a rope/rubber band muzzle. I’m sure that’s extremely uncomfortable for the doggies. :(

I have a short double coat cat (Russian Blue) and although well, most cats are self-groomed, during shedding season, I need to brush him and remove him undercoat at least weekly (and then there's like a week where is everyday). Not only because hair everywhere, but because even a cat will have trouble sometimes and get some matts in the tougher to reach spots (especially with dingleberries and under the armpits). I can't imagine getting a Husky or any other wooly kind of dog and going like "he doesn't need to get brushed", it's insane. I never brush my Dog outside of some undercoat removal during shedding season because he's a short haired mutt and a biyearly groom visit is more than enough to keep his coat amazing.

My family, and I used to have a Malamute-Husky. His favorite pastime seemed to be when my dad would go out and spend a couple of hours once or twice a week brushing his fur. Each and every time my dad would do this, it would fill up a two gallon bucket without fail! It seemed to be a rather relieving thing for him, getting even that much fur off of him......I can only imagine how much of a relief it was for this dog to get this much fur off of it!

My schedule is usually full of these types of double coated dogs and two or three times a year I get dogs that are not this poorly maintained, but very close. A skip toothed blade is really helpful for carving away at matted areas to open them up for brushing without shaving short

The dog we had when I was a child was half husky. The hours we all spent brushing Rex every spring to get the puff balls of hair out as the undercoat was shed.

Wooly coats are so hard to maintain - and to think some breed this kind of coat on purpose. Y'all did a great job with her. So impressive!!

I'm feeling the pain this poor soggo needed to go through to get dematted. :( I know why you do that, but really, she looks sedated. Normal dog laying down like this while being pulled like that? I can't imagine that. I'm also concerned about the string on her mouth. :( :(

Negativity towards the owner will result in the poor dog not being brought back. Calling them lazy will not be beneficial to Lady Husky. The owner knows they are wrong. It's hard not to say those things but I worry about her not getting your expert care.

Hopefully they learn their lessons and become better pet parents. If they choose to be petty and neglect the dog again they don’t deserve to have this type of dog or dogs period. Don’t get a dog or any animal you can’t take care of properly.

I worked on husky’s coat before but not that badly matted . I didn’t use anything to shave the fur. It took me a few days brushing it out, I had to go w my other job that’s why it took days I’m impressed with the job you did. Such a good dog 😊

The big fluff balls she kept pulling out just reminded me of the Tribble from Star Trek. 😂

Having a husky that means u’re ready for their dramatic behaviour, their shedding, their absurd moments, their songs. And most important thing of them is LOVE. If u not ready for having husky please dont do it. Their such a lovely dog.

I have a white bichon and she gets a really good brushing every second or third day. I can never get her looking like she does after the groomers though. I'm so glad you didn't have to shave this dog. You did phenomenal work.

Poor pupper! I will bet that probably was painful and that was why she tried to bite you! I hope the owner was told that he or she could avoid anything that massive coming off by brushing the dog each day! I had a gorgeous purebred, silver, German Shepherd, named Kelly. I worked at a shelter as a vet assistant. This was about 1978! The guys in the back, where animals were surrendered knew I was a sucker for any animal in need! They ran up to me and said, "We just got a purebred little 8 week old German Shepherd dropped off by the owner. The shelter manager is going to have her put down!!" WHAT?? WHY?? Any purebred cat or dog, young or older, always got quickly adopted so I couldn't understand why the shelter manager was marking her for euthanasia! I went to the isolation room where any new animals went as they needed to be seen by one of the vets as well as have a distemper vaccination and any dog or cat over 6 months, also got a rabies vaccine! There sat this beautiful 8 week old, GSD, her ears would perk up but then fall over! The guy who got me said look at this, papers for this puppy and the guy paid $500 for her at the age of 6 weeks! I opened the cage and went to pick her up. She was skin & bones!! The woman who signed her in as, "owner, do not want!!" She had 6 children with her, all under the age of 10, and she was clearly pregnant again! She told him that her husband had purchased this puppy 2 weeks prior. He paid $500 for the puppy which irritated her because not only did he spend that amount of money, she already had 6 kids and was expecting #7. She said the children had already lost interest in walking, feeding, & brushing the puppy and she had enough trying to care for all the kids, herself, & the husband. She had never owned a dog before and had asked a few neighbors if they knew how big this puppy might get. Best guess was 70-85 pounds! The husband had stopped by a pet store on the way home from picking up the puppy, to pick up a case of dog food that is no longer made! It was called Mighty Dog and came in the same sized cans as tuna fish! The woman said that she was giving it a can of Mighty Dog each morning!! The puppy needed to be on puppy food as puppies require more calories each day than a grown dog. And giving a puppy a tiny can of adult dog food just once a day, she was starving the poor dog! Because there was no foster care systems for cats, dogs, or any animal that needed to be nursed back to help, I immediately called my mom to ask if I could bring this tiny puppy home! Since she needed to be fed, very small meals every hour at first, I would bring the dog back to work with me each morning! My mom reluctantly agreed that the dog could come home with me but once the dog was nursed back to health , it would go up for adoption! At the time we had a small dog, crossed between a Terrier & a Beagle. She was the color of amber so we caller her Amber! I ran back to the shelter manager and begged him to let me save this very starved little German Shepherd! He finally agreed. I got her from isolation ward & had one of the veterinarians check her over. He gave her a distemper shot, she was too young for a rabies shot. Plus she got her first dose of worm medication! I grabbed a bag of puppy food and put her in one of the kennels in the clinic. I fed her meal #1 of that day. A small handful of food. Any animal that is starving will wolf down anything in front of them so fast that they will only end up vomiting it up so you must feed tiny amounts each hour. Each hour I fed her, setting my alarm for the next hour. That only lasted a little bit as the puppy finally realizes that they can count on the person feeding! She gained weight daily. Within 2 weeks she looked like a totally different puppy!! She loved going into the shelter because it was where her mom worked!! The shelter manager came into the clinic when Kelly was 13 weeks old just as one of the veterinarians said she was now a perfect weight! He said she looked wonderful and he bet she would get adopted within an hour! I said, Kelly was already adopted & showed him the adoption certificate with my name on it! She would be back the next day for her spay! Kelly ended up at around 90 pounds! The breeder had a bunch of big boned GS so she grew to be large! I eventually got tired of the cold & snow in Philadelphia and decided to move to Florida! I loaded up a U-Haul, had my exp fiance hook my car up on the rear of the truck and we headed south to Florida! I had a cat named, Krystal. I couldn't imagine driving 1300 miles with a cat. So I found a veterinarian who lived close to the Philadelphia Airport. My veterinarian gave her vaccinations, filled out the form for the airlines. I dropped her off at the kennel & prepaid for her board. I gave them the ticket for her flight from Philly to Tampa Airport. They had her records as well as the forms and a tranquilizer to be given to her an hour before her flight! My parents had moved to Florida 5 years before I did. The morning of her flight, my dad & I went to the cargo area where she was brought after the plane landed. Kelly was brushed every dad. When she would be especially shedding was each spring when she would "drop" her winter coat! Only then did she have clumps of hair like this Husky! I hope the owners now brush her daily!!

I really hope you got the okay from the owners, to bad mouth the way they took care of there dog. Cause I can see a lawsuit in your future.

I owned a Husky they are a lot of work. They require daily brushing. I also invested in a professional dryer because washing without drying causes mats. Maintenance was everyday. Baths once every 2 weeks. Professional groom every 10 to 12 weeks. My dog almost never had a mat. If a person doesn't want to work really hard, don't get a double coated dog. Also they can become quiet expensive to maintain if you dont want to do any of the work yourself.

I have a husky malamute mix with a matt behind one of her ears. I brush her regularly, but her coat is so thick that I didn't even notice it while petting or brushing her there. Now that I've found it, it's hard to fix. I really appreciate this video because it's really hard to find content showing how to remove a matt like this and not just shave it out. I even have the right brush for the job, just needed a bit of guidance, whixh this certainly provided.

😳What a mammoth task that was for both dog and groomer. I bet the dog felt soooo much better after all that matted fur was removed.🙏🙏🙏💞
