HUGE Trouble For STRUGGLING Haas Driver!

Спорт

Kevin Magnussen was the king of chaos in Miami as his carefree team based driving entertained us and earned Haas more vital championship points. With K-mag playing defence and the Hulk on offence, Haas have created a point scoring machine, showing the rest of the back markers how to make the most of a bad situation. Their Miami sprint race strategy of using K-mag to hold off Hamilton as Hulkenberg went on to score points was incredible entertainment but as exciting as Kevin’s do or die defensive manoeuvres were, there was a price to pay. Today I’m going to check out how K-mag’s brilliant team play might cost him far more than a few penalty points, so don’t go anywhere.

I'm noticing the older Mag gets the more he looks like Steve McQueen.... What KMags driving is doing now is making drivers behind him question their intent to pass him......I'm loving it! GO Kmag!

If you get a penalty, surely you should be forced to take it within a couple of laps. This would prevent drivers interfering with other teams races?

I think fia has taken KMag as hostage. Lewis has done the same, but he was too big to be punished! But it could be solved at once if they called these car in after 3-5 rounds . Alonso gave ocon his first formel 1 win. Doing exactly the same. The rule needs to be changed. Or it will continue

Keep driving the same way, take the race ban and then the pain is over. Then start with a clean sheet and do as you like again.

I think they need to make more rules regarding defensive driving like this. Because should it warrant penalty points? Should it result in grid drops next race maybe? I think it just needs more rules surrounding the defensive driving and also how it might relate to penalty points.

What puzzles me is why everyone is so jazzed about a kid who's tied with Jak Crawford for 8th place in F2😮. Prema is coming to Indy Car next year though. 😊

I dont get what all the fuss is about. Every other sport has blockers, tackles, or some other way of obstructing an opponent within the rules, why not motorsport? As long as its not punitive, destructive or dangerous let them do what they want.

For me, watching the race I was thinking that F1 needs to put a stop to it. It was wrong, just wrong. No matter who was behind him. The problem is how penalties are delt with during races. They need to come up with a better way to deal with it. Like, if you got more then 10s penalty, it converts to a drive thru to be served in 3 laps time - except on the last lap, for obvious reasons - that if not served, would disqualify the TEAM from the race. That would put a stop to all the shenanigans teams have had recently. Peace and long life! 🖖

Bottas will most likely loose his drive at Sauber and could be a good alternative for Haas as a reference for Ollie and to help set up the car IMHO. I like Magnussen but his driving is too erratic, even on a normal day.

Ferrari didn't bring any upgrades to Miami, they are bringing them to imola. McLaren had all their upgrades on Lando's car and only about 70% of them on Piastri's. Look for Ferrari to be better at imola and Piastri to be better at imola as well, but Red Bull are bringing upgrades to imola so look for that too. Most teams are waiting until imola for major upgrades because it costs less to ahip the parts and test them in Europe instead of the otherside of the world on a sprint weekend.

KMAg's defensive driving has earned Hulk 2 points fyi. 1 in Jeddah, and maybe 1 in Miami though Lewis had a 10 second penalty anyway so really Kmag kinda just threw away a point driving the way he did. Either way he has not earned Hulk half his points. Oddly nobody even actually asked KMag to hold up Lewis in Miami, he just did that on his own. Also his defensive driving did not 'come close to stepping over the line' he did step over the line. Cutting corners, pushing the other driver off while going off himself, and bumping into another car he is racing. Yeah all of this is going over the line. I'm happy for drivers to play the team game and slow down other drivers, but not by outright breaking the rules.

I'm not sure how accruing time penalties and penalty points qualifies as "brilliant." If you're a menace to the other drivers on the course, I don't think that being a "team player" qualifies as a justification. Yes, I watch F1 to be entertained (if it weren't entertaining, no one would watch in the first place), but I also watch to see a good race. For me, when someone is constantly doing the things that skilled drivers try to avoid doing during a race, that spoils part of the race.

The powers that be at Haas surely understand that altho Nico has the points, Kmag is the one that earned them. Nico is leaving, and after his next penalty points Kmag will give them an opportunity to see Oliver in the Haas car for a race, also a hugely valuable data point on the way to deciding if they want him full time for next year. As mentioned, contrary to the hype, F1 is a team sport, Kevin is a team player. They will almost certainly keep him unless they can snag Carlos, which is not out of the question now that Audi has poached Nico. Haas may well become Carlos only choice if he doesn't nail down the Mercedes seat.

KMag got Nico a point in Saudi Arabia sure. But nothing else. Remember if Lewis had passed Hulk in Miami Hulk would only have lost the one point - and even then he wouldn't have lost that point anyway because Lewis had a 10 second penalty! So no KMag is not the one who has earned Hulk's points. Ultimately Hulk has been the one with the pace, he's the one who has qualified in positions to put himself in contention for points.

@@13Xerro Everything is easier with hindsight, but you have to remember, after Kevin got the first penalty he was effectively done, but holding up Lewis was allowing Nico to build a gap. Lewis didn't have a penalty at that point, so yes, in hindsight it may look like a nothing, but at the time it was happening, Kevin was playing the team game, taking another penalty to help Nico build a gap. But ya, looking after the fact it's easy to say 'shoulda done it different', and if only they knew what would happen farther down the track, everybody would have done things very differently. Point is, they didn't know what was coming, so, worked with what they had.

@@gerryrozema8338 Magnussen worked with what he had. It was choice he made independently, the team did not tell him to do it. So yes you are right KMag could not have known Hamilton would get a penalty, but ultimately his actions ended up opening the door for their currently rival VCARB to take the point instead.
