I'm a new Hoya parent, started with 2 hoyas last year just to try my hands on them. I got 1" cuttings of the Compacta and Krinkle 8 which has successfully grown over a foot long and had 3 peduncles each for 12 months. So last month I just keep going to plant nurseries and big box stores to check on hoyas. Since then I've acquired a dozen more, repotted them to a more orchid loving soil with some potting soil, perlite, and bark and few charcoals...it's just been 2-3 months with these new acquisitions and maybe a hundred KZread videos from all of you...I think I'm in the right direction...but my husband complain about more fungus gnats around...I guess the more plants we have, the more gnats we get. I had a mealy bugs experience and unlike you other plant parents, I only try 3 times to rehab those specific plants, then after the 3rd time, sadly when mealy bugs come back after treating them and isolating them and changing their soil, I need to let them go....I don't want 70 of my plants to get infected with them. So I know this is hard to hear but when we get out of control with the number of plants we care, my husband and I think we need to limit our crazy collections 😢😢 to go further....thankfully houseplants are somewhat shortlived, so when one dies we have the opportunity to experience a new one. My outdoor garden has over 120 varieties of winter hardy plants...it has been fun growing them for 35 yrs but now need to slow down...we also need to love different hobbies and new things to learn....I cannot imagine some ppl have 600-800 houseplants! That's over the top!😂 But I guess that's what makes ppl happy....better happy than sad😊

WOW! Thank you for the love! I would so much enjoy seeing your outdoor garden! I bet it's amazing! As far as fungal gnats go, the product that works for me the best is 'Mosquito bits'. I've really only ever needed to apply it once! It's a bacteria that targets the larvae and honestly I couldn't say enough good things about it! I will say that having a ton of Pinguiculas has helped a ton too lol. My issue is fruit flies! Mealy bugs are horrible, I will say that I don't switch out my soil or isolate, but that's what has worked for me. I know other plant keepers that have to or they will overtake the collection. I think my success has been from weekly spray downs of neem oil/ Castile soap and a systemic granular. I really enjoyed reading this comment, It is the longest I've ever received and it made me smile! Good luck with your Hoyas! I'd love to see some pics!

Great hoya collection. I love your Hoya Acheh, although my local Hoya Acheh does not look as beautiful as yours. I'm from Malaysia.
