That flush of all those birds is what I’m been chasing my whole life!
I had a flush of close to 75 birds (30+ roosters) in Delaware county, Iowa, back in 1989 ! The birds actually came up in 3 different “waves” , and we dropped 7 roosters before they were all away. It was on opening weekend and we added two more to fill our limit for 3 hunters.. My cocker spaniel found 2 birds that had crawled into thick, heavy grass to hide, otherwise we marked and found the others. I can still picture that amazing flush yet today, and I never had another experience close to that in my hunting days. I am 74 years old and have bagged 649 roosters since I dropped my 1st bird in 1968. Keep a hunting diary if you have time - my diary of past hunts is priceless ! R. G. Hoekstra, Manchester, IA

Wow, what a great memory! That must have been amazing to see, thanks!
Something about watching a dog work to find birds to me is just absolutely amazing! As much as I loved small game hunting, almost more then deer hunting I’d be happy walking without a gun and watching the dogs work….
Every time you go out, it’s better than any day I’ve ever had.

Nice to see Iowa back in the pheasant game. ☮️🇺🇸
Love watching Tubs work, when he brings you the bird you pet him twice and his expression is like " Yaa yaa boss, ain't no big thing, let's get another". I've watched several of your videos and he's a fine hunting companion. True team player. I hope my next dog gets to his level. Your spirit with your dogs is infectious.

Very kind of you, thanks! Tubbs is a good boy! 👍
What a flush it was. Respected for effort in the water.
I was hunting Iowa and and had a similar flush. I shot twice, reloaded, and shot two more times, meanwhile a there is steady stream of birds flushing....that was an evening hunt. I went back to the same spot the next morning and no more than 100 yards from that exact location, I got the same type of flush again. It was awesome.

You should use a Labrador retriever. I have seen. Both pointers and flushers work good together. You would not have lost your birds.
Awesome footage!
Nice video again. You're right, that Flush was awesome!! Reminds me of a covey of quail so many I can't pick one. I'm hunting KS right now myself, too bad you are probably already home from your trip.
That was a hell of a flush
Great video as usual Eric, I live in Iowa and haven't seen that big a flush yet this year.
Now THAT was fun ! Great job man, thanks 👍🏻

You were so calm when you saw lots of birds flushed. It was not that easy to make a quite decision and shoot it right. You gotta identify the sex of the birds, then you made a choice in 2-3 seconds, then shot. Well done. Good Video

heading out from Pennsylvania next week. hopefully weather is nice.
When that many birds get up in one spot i call it a bird fountain but this one was more like a geyser!
Awesome video
Snow and cold weather next week here in north central Kansas. I’ll definitely be out!
Great video! As an Iowa resident with my own GWP I can confirm the bird numbers are good again this year. However, at this point in the season they are track stars and can be quite humbling.

Good video, good dog work.
I hunt a lot in the southwest portion of Palo Alto County Iowa and see flushes like that very often.
I have seen more roosters in Iowa then South Dakota last couple years on my travels.

oh wait - maybe it was CC that was able to find that bird that dropped into that tall thicket even though she didn't initially even see the flight or trajectory of the bird. my old dog struggled with this.
Nothing like hunting behind some good dogs.
Literally was saying omg an holy shit at the exact same time . That was so fuckin cool
Great hunting good dog's our dog's never ate a Bird well they got disciplined pretty good and I will guarantee you my feet would of been wet but that's me best of luck to you guys happy hunting

Love it. On the big or little sioux river? By the way that flush was crazy, those are rare. I've been in one and will never forget it.
that flush was awesome!!! i have had a couple like that in the shelter belts in SD... but you dont see it very often!! its great to get to hunt with family.. did you let tom get a shot off on that trip?? LOL thanks for sharing & be safe!!

Eric nice work on the channel and video! What does this year's hunting season look like? I hope the dogs are ready.
Birds numbers are for sure up in Iowa but still not like what they were in the early 2000s before farmers started harvesting 2 feet from their fence lines lol. Did you guy pop up any quail? I Just saw my first Quail Covey in a long time last week out hunting western Iowa.
Great dog work as usual. It's really difficult for me to determine how far away those birds are on your gopro. I'm sure they're not as far as the camera seems to show them. What was the distance of that bird that held so tight at the 18 minute mark? Were you still shooting 7-1/2 size shot? Which choke?

Where do you hunt? We hunt in Trayer, Iowa and have never seen that many. Love it.
Great Eric. Came close to a flush like that a few years ago, but you put up some big numbers there !! CC is a darling. How old ? little past prime ? but still has it ! Later. Doug.

Big flush but bad results, damn 😳
Excpt when it’s too hot, how long do you keep your dog hunting before switching them out?
@ericforrester1
Жыл бұрын
There are a lot of factors. Type of hunt, condition of the dog, ground to be covered, etc. If I’m hunting a place where we can switch dogs often, then maybe 2 hours or so. Other hunts require death marches of 6+ hours sometimes.
Eric fate came in all flavors on this day ,, some like poop , ha ha ha and some like coconut cream pie.

so you shot and killed 4 birds and found all 4? You got the 2 in the truck, lost/gave up on the 1 in the river and the dog ate the other bird while you were gone? Seems like you were 1 over the limit for here in Iowa.
Looked like 8 ro 10 first flush and 15 in the second...?

How many birds can you kill a day there?
@jacoblamb3535

Well at least you didn't have a junk double so you could get 3 shots off.......losing that bird floating down the creek is poor work all the way around, from dog to man..... :( ...... .otherwise that video really captures how real pheasant hunting is.
Sweet. New Subscriber here. Check us Iowa boys out.
Don’t you observe limits? Seems you Shot Several one day. When we hunt in groups after someone shoots his limit we let the others shoot
Pity the music made me turn off imediately. Totally unecessary.
That was tough to watch. Since when does a dog on point take precedence over recovering a downed bird. When you thought that dog was on point and the bird was in the creek, you should have sacrificed that “point” and called in the dog to recourse rooster. Second, dog stopping and eating game instead of finding you and delivering? WOW! Then there’s Tubs the flusher, running in on birds whenever people or dogs get to close to “HIS” bird. Lastly, how was that creek gonna be to much for the old dog to handle. That was nothing. Another bird without even an attempted recovery. This is all very poor sportsmanship, dog handling/training and really, more about blasting birds than anything else.

@VersatileHunter
2 жыл бұрын
@@mattstencel4302 I don’t need to be jealous. I have well trained dogs and the best hunting in the world. Call me a loser once you can prove it. I’m all for great hunting videos and know that nothing is ever perfect, BUT. Putting finding birds to shoot above recovery of shot birds is asinine. Also, dogs that eat game rather than bring it back to the handler are a liability and should not be hunted if they behave that way.

Couldn't agree more. Got be a better handler and if the dog doesn't respond, train up a better dog.
Really, nice hunting, but extremely poor sportsmanship. There’s a difference. Just get the boots a little wet and be a man. Retrieve your bird. You already had killed your legal limit and can warm up in truck, and even pick up your third bird before your dog consumed it. Then just go ahead and kill a fourth one illegally after your poor judgment. Please clean up your sportsmanship before being a bad example to all as a grown man who should definitely know better
Great video but would be better if you could control your constant profanity 👍😉
good female dog man
my very good hunter let me tell you something, when i was young in argentina we use to hunt like you are doing now hunt with excellent plus pointer dogs , hunt with very very plus old shot guns .24 cal. 16 cal. and the rich guy with a 12 over under , but never never shoot a bird in the ground or with a semiautomatic shotgun , it's a offense to the animal and costume of bird hunting , MAN YOU LIVE IN USA BUY A DOUBLE OR OVER UNDER GUN DO NOT BE CHEAP PLEASE and keep doing this beautiful vid
