Huge cheap goat pastures created with solar electric fence | the goats were very nervous!

The pasture is finished and we released the goats. It went slower than even I expected. It just took one brave goat 🤣

    you might want to Build a ramp on the front door entrance to make it easier for streusel to get in and out. That step may not seam high to you but for someone with bad knees and short it is a mountain.

    From making soap to installing a fence, you do it all with gusto, drive and natural talent. My father was a wonderful man who owned a wholesale fruit and vegetable company in Massachusetts. My Dad could do anything with his hands, from remodeling our home to building my brother a huge model train set with a second room that had a slot car track, complete with an entire miniature town and trees and buildings, etc. You remind me so much of him. Thanks for bringing me into the Zion Creek family. You and the farm animals help make a sometimes lonely, all the time disabled old woman smile…..especially when I get to watch zoomies! 🙏🌹🙏

    Thanks for the info on the electric fencing. I have 7 strand high tensile fencing, but only 3 stands are hot. Now I know how to get the rest hot, lol. My Pygmies go under the bottom line even though it’s only 7 inches off the ground, that’s when I realized only the 2nd, 5th, and top wires were hot. I’ll email you a solution I found to avoid weeding the fence line. Again, thanks for the education!

    I bought that charger first and my goats would walk right through the fence. Wouldnt even faze them. Took it back and got the 15 mile DC one which is like .70/.90 joules instead of .10 and put it on a deep cycle battery and it will put you on your butt instantly. Definitely better to keep the goats in. The solar one doesnt even compare. And the DC one is cheaper too!!

    Great job on the fencing! The goats are liking it. Please tell me if I am wrong, isn't there more of a parasite problem in longer grass? So happy Muffin is doing well along with her 4 babies. All the babies seem to be thriving and having their best life! Thank you 😊

  • @zioncreekfarm

    @zioncreekfarm

    Parasite issue is in shorter grass as far as grazing animals are concerned. The worms climb up to around 4-8” off the ground so if the animals are eating lower than that they ingest more parasites ☺️

    Hi. Lester said a few years back that all his goats got really sick from eating grass over 3 inches tall. That is what his vet told him. Just throwing that out there. Something about parasite live on the upper part of the blade of grass.

    I'd say you got to work out today. I was going to say they were very happy and excited the most of the time when they were running somebody stepped on the metal. I'm okay with saying they were very happy because there was one or two times I didn't step on the metal. They really do look happy lol. Great job on the fence.

  • @zioncreekfarm

    I would have to say any bred would work fine. Bigger breeds are going to eat more per goat. We like the Nigerian dwarf because they’re small and if I have to, I can just pick them up and carry them. So, a large herd of small goats or a small herd of large goats 😬 might be best to find some folks in your area and get some feedback from them. Local Facebook pages are great for that.
