This video was shot at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (Santa Cruz, CA) in 1984. A few friends and I were "extras" in this video as we used to travel from San Jose to Santa Cruz every weekend to try and meet girls. We appear in a few shots on the beach and on the boardwalk. It was fun and the band gave us a concert at night at the small amphitheater on the boardwalk. Great days back then!!

I was working at a Country Club in Indianapolis when they were touring “Sports”. Huey and the band came there in the afternoon and played golf. He stayed after and signed autographs and then came up to me and gave me an envelope. He asked me to give what was inside to whoever the right people were. It had 20 tickets and 20 backstage passes to that nights concert at MSA. He sat with us after the show and I will tell you that he and the band were some of the coolest, most down to earth people you could ever meet!!! Great reaction, as always!!👏

I can verify that assessment. Also close to that the same time, but just before Sports came out, I briefly met and talked to Huey, who I found to be extremely affable and genuine. I told him how much I loved the song 'Do You Believe In Love', and he said something like, "Oh man, thank you so much - that's great to hear." Then I hung out with the News (sans Huey) backstage after their concert... indeed, very cool guys, and even they talked about how nice a guy Huey was. :-)

I was a P.A. on the Music Video - It Was shot at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk! I toted the Phonebooth from Monterey to the Santa Cruz Beach by myself in a truck. Also in the scene where the guys are buried in the sand - I was assigned to fan the flies off them. The best part was when they were dressing the "Fortune teller" scene up on the Boardwalk - the guys broke into A cappella do wop songs while waiting to shoot the scene. It was so magical that a lot of the crew just stopped what they were doing until the AD came over and told everyone to get back to work! I heard that song in playback so many times over the three days that I couldn't stand to hear it...and the song took off. I couldn't hear it without cringing for a couple of years. Nope - no cell phones. This was the summer of 1984.

@Steve Klemetti we just used the beach along with everyone else. As to the guys in the sand, they dug a “bench” in the sand for the guys. They sat in it, had a sheet of plywood with cutouts for their necks and put sand over the board. About 10 minutes at a time was the longest they were subjected to being “under the sand”. It was a hot day and this bit took a long time to get. Mario was actually smoking the cigarette…I don’t know how he could stand it. He didn’t have to. This was my first pro production job a week before I graduated UCSC. A nice start.

No one did this sort of neo-doo-wop like HLATN. Other artists did ‘50s-style music early in the decade, but they never quite nailed it like they did, not even Billy Joel. Huey Lewis and the News always had some killer harmonies. This song is a great example of that, as is another favorite of mine "Stuck with You."

Love this band - lots of great hits mentioned in the comments. My favorite was “I Want a New Drug”…he’s great person, too! Sadly, Huey has Meniers disease, which has caused him to lose a great deal of his hearing.

Yay! So happy you are hitting on some Huey! They had so many hits in the 80s! My favorites being Do You Believe In Love..I saw them back in 1984 and Stevie Ray Vaughan opened up for them and he came out again at the end to jam with Huey Lewis and the News(it was amazing) Please do more and also some more John Cougar Mellencamp(who also dominated the charts in the 80s) as he is often looked over too and also had so many hits..oh and since I haven't bugged in a long time I will request The Rapper-The Jaggerz again(YOU WON`T BE DISAPPOINTED) :) Keep On Rockin`

Huey Lewis has been a solid fixture here in the Bay Area for decades. He’s a HUGE SF Giants and Niners fan through good times & bad (coached 1st base during a game, has sung the National Anthem at games numerous times, has participated in many documentaries on our teams over the years). I’m blown away that he’s 71 years old….time sure flies!

Huey Lewis was a big enough star to participate in the 'U.S.A. 4 Africa' charity single along side some of the all-time greats .Sadly a few years ago he developed a rare inner ear problem, Ménière's disease, that went un-diagnosed for a long time and permanently damaged his hearing. He said that he can no longer hear music, just noise and is unable to hear well enough to sing.

This was the first band independent of my parents music that I heard and loved immediately. In the third grade this was "hard rock" to me, I know better now but I have never stopped loving Huey Lewis And The News. His bluesy ass voice over some Doo-wap wrapped up in a pop blanket was unique as hell.

So surprised to see Huey blocked. I love anything off Sports. I did see them at Alpine Valley Music Theatre with the Tower of Power. I think they pretended that the "power went out" and it all went acoustic for a few songs. What a show that was. What happy happy music! KZread/Huey Lewis, don't be stupid by blocking music!! There is a whole generation of people hungry for music like this! Love ya, Jamel ❤️❤️❤️

Huey Lewis and the News was one of those bands that I didn't really care for that much as a teenager in the 80s, but as I've gotten older I can appreciate their style and incredible pop-rock songs. I really don't think they get as much respect today as they should, especially considering how they've sold over 30 million albums worldwide.
