Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83,I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consimante professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.

I'm a 57 year old black man and this song is timeless to me I saw them live at C Street North in Sacramento what a night.

80s is my favourite decade too. I would also put the 50s, 90s, 70s, and 60s on there too (in that order). Some early 2000s stuff is good too. Good music really petered out by the time the 2010s rolled around and good music doesn’t exist at all so far in the 2020s.

If you go to a club that has several jandras of music, I went to one in Philadelphia PA years ago by the galería. This place had 5 floors . Each floor was a club but had one specific jondra of music from a specific decade. I went to each floor to check the place out. The only floor that had a packed house was the first floor with the 70's and 80's jazz, pop rock, hip-hop, soul, disco, funk and groove music all packed into one floor. The rest were rap, hard rock, country, new age, free style and anything else you can think of. Most people who criticize are the ones that love it the most. The legends are many between the late 60's and late 90's. That's 30 plus years of greatness created by so many but by so very few. Our time for entertainment events are slipping away fast now. Our legends are leaving us by the many. And soon we will follow them home. There are only a small few left. That is , actors and actresses, singers ,song writers and bands and groups and producers and performers and comedians. But what they left behind can never ever be replicated the way they did it. I raise a glass 🍷 to all of them and I say, here here we celebrate your legacy. I love them all. Morice White, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Hewy Luis, Prince, Tom Petty, James Brown, Rick James, Anita Baker, Christy McVee, John Lennon, Elvis Presley,Leisa Minelli, Bárbara Striesand, Bárbara Walters News Anchorer and Reporter, Arsinio Hall, Eddie Murphy, John Candy, John Belushi, Michael J. This song was part of my childhood, and that guitar tone is what has made it stick in my head all these years later. As a guitarist myself, truly great studio guitar tones are very finicky and difficult to find. This producer knocked it out of the park.

I always liked Huey Lewis and The News. Their early work was a little bit too new wave for my taste, but when "Sports" came out in '83 they really came into their own, both commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound that really gives the songs a big boost.

It seemed like the 80s was truly the last semi age of innocence, we were too busy having fun to be fighting with each other over literally everything like today. Wasn't perfect, but life never is.

I miss the 80's! I was still young and the world seemed bigger with so many possibilities!

i remember when i was 8yrs old and running to the "country store" not "convenience store" with 75 cents to buy ketchup chips was everything. back when you mom would send you out to buy smokes and MC Hammer was #1 on the top 6@6 on am640 radio.

It was November of 1983. I was out of work , spending my days kicking back in Malibu, at my friend's beach house, watching MTV, and drinking screwdrivers with Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys, when this video popped up. Sadly, Dennis would be gone a month later. Memories that I'll cherish forever.

After their first album which flopped they were allowed to produce all their music and videos which is big reason for the success that they had.

Re-living videos/songs like this is one of the best things about KZread. What great memories: 1983/84/85 - the Classic era of the 1980’s - so much great music ! IT WAS A GREAT TIME TO BE ALIVE!!!!!!

Huey Lewis and the news didn't get the recognition that they really deserved here in the UK but those of us knew, we knew. When I went to San Francisco a couple of years back, Potrero Hill was one of my first destinations as I love this track.

Corona virus madness. Seeking happy. This video and song rise to the occasion. Huey’s voice. The guitar player. The general goofy vibes. It helps.

I wanted to check on discogs and found out the mix engineer on the Sports album and presumably this single is the legendary Bob Clearmountain. And yeah, this sounds crystalline in my speakers- better than I expected and better than most songs of that 1983 era. Rewarding to know it was credited to someone big who has industry-wide recognition. I'd even look into the assistants on this and see what they are up to now. Mixing is a true art and these cats have it figured out. Producers today can learn a lot from them.

the superior production is one of the main reasons why Huey's cover version was a big hit and the original by Exile wasn't, despite both versions being very similar

Huey is too cool for words. He's got the looks, that sweet voice, and the confidence of knowing you are really good at what you do

1990 and 91 still felt pretty 80s. Stuff doesn't change overnight, but I'd actually say the 80s vibe STARTED going away as early as '87 with some 90s elements coming in like new jack swing. 1982-early 86 was the heart of the 80s

supersabrejet Yes, in many ways, the 80's were full of cool teachers and staff. I was class of '86, and I fondly recall the great staff at my high school. Our principal was extremely well liked, and at home football games he would be puffing on his big cigar in the home stand, partying with parents and students!
