Daniel my blind test score was 20-9 for Huawei. In most of your DSLR choices you mentioned that you would have edited the image to look much nicer afterwards but from a guy that has no idea how to do that or doesn't own a computer with a photoshop or lightroom copy installed the P40 Pro is a much better candidate. It's a point and shoot camera that works much better in every day cases than a DSLR. PS: Don't bother with the people that say it's not fair to compare photos on auto because that's exactly the way most people would use the cameras. I have friends with DSLRs that point and shoot with them and don't edit the images later and besides the fact that a phone is always with you it's also better at the images it produces in this point and shoot case.

Also, I even got Harry to take all the photos himself, so that I didn't even want to see which one was which, before-hand. Wanted this to be as unbiased as possible. Keep in mind that most people who buy a DSLR (I'm talking about the average user), ONLY use it in auto-mode without any editing at all. I have plenty of family members and friends who have DSLR's and just use it like this. This was the whole point of the video. Seeing which one is better for the average user. Obviously, if you plan on using manual mode and heavily editing the photos, the DSLR is going to be better. But unless you're a prosumer, you wouldn't be doing that . And yes, I do it - which is why I do take my DSLR with me whenever I travel. But I'm finding that I have to do that less and less often.

The Camera used in the video is not a DSLR. It is a mirorless camera. A Panasonic GH5 to be more specific.

Nice comparison! I was surprised to see the results. The camera is the Panasonic Gh5 mirrorless, M43 image sensor with a Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 lens, with an adapter as its designed for an APS-C camera.

My choice: P40 Pro: 26 points DSLR: 2 points

Very interesting comparison. I'm actually planning to do a similar test, so found this one very interesting. The P40 is way more fun to shoot with than a DSLR...have both and use both. Just think of this: the best camera is the one you always have with you!...how many shots will you miss with your DSLR that you will shoot with the P40 Pro?

P40Pro: 21 points, DSLR: 7 points. For quick visual storytelling, the P40Pro is more versatile and more usable in more use cases for me. I'm still using my OP7Pro at the moment, but I'm seriously considering the P40Pro+ as my next device.

Great comparison, although I would have liked to see the edited raws instead of the photo straight out of the camera. Cameras just don't have the post processing capabilities of smartphones, and they are not meant to have them either, as they are used by professionals who wants full control over the result, and the raw images should provide enough information to greatly improve the lighting conditions and dynamic range of the photos, amongst other things, like noise reduction etc.

He said that in the end of the video, if you just take photo's for scoial media or so, pick a smartphone. If you're really into photgraphy pick a camera cuz the raw image that comes out of it is better to process in photoshop etc.

The whole comparison is useless because any decent photographer knows that you don’t take pictures like this straight from camera without any proper editing or using raw file

That's because you didn't considered editing the photos later on as I did as well. I got a 20 to 9 for the P40 Pro. Most people want a point and shoot camera and for them the P40 Pro is a better camera that also includes a smartphone inside :).

Huawei 20 , DSLR 8 . Yes night videos wasn t that great on Huawei, but considering the price i will buy soon a p40 pro. DSLR do not have processor with AI. So the hardware - software combination on the Huawei makes the difference.

Been watching u since ur iPhone 7 rumor videos and adore ur channel 🥰😎 and it goes to show in videos like this. more expensive isn’t always better.

As for the apps section at the end of the video. Historically cutting off Huawei from google is a mistake any student of history will tell you this. Huawei will (in the short term) find better ways round the google restriction problem, in the long term they will have a better operating system which will result in one of the existing systems (android or apple) dying forever. Watch this space

Is it about which one you like the most or which one is more real to the scene??

A very interesting comparison and I wonder what the outcome would be had it been the P40 Pro Plus v. DSLR! I think it would interesting to comment in more depth on noise and details visible in large blow-ups (e.g. A2-size) and general suitability for action photography when taking stills. Is more lag experienced with the P40 Pro when pressing the button? Colour fringing on blow-ups might also be worth commenting on. Finally, it might be interesting to see equivalent focal lengths on the DSLR when comparing identically composed scenes at different magnifications. The size of the sensor and number of pixels on the DSLR would be worth mentioning.

This video got my thoughts clarified, I think I'll go with dslr bcz it can do more in low light and landscapes but p40 Pro + is a beast of a phone of 2020 💪

Considering fact that smartphones are multipurpose tools they hold their own against DSLRs, Mirorless and compact cameras which are single purpose, dedicated camera tools. P40 PRO is great example of such smartphone.

You can’t compare a 3000$ mirrorless camera in automode with a phone. Most photographers don’t even use the automode. You miss so many opportunities if you don’t use all modifications/modes

Yes, it's true that when both are on auto mode, P40 will beat DSLR in most scenarios. It's a shame that compact, mirrorless and DSLR cameras have very bad post processing on most modes. I can imagine how good those photos WILL BE if they buck up their post processing.

It's amazaing how P40 Pro can put up a fight against a DSLR camera! Wow....wow! We all know that these are results from AUTO mode on both, but still....it's amazing what a AI and strong CPU can do in a smartphone. Btw, I had 15:13 for P40 Pro. I'm blown away with possibilities of this smartphone. I'm gone buy it. Great comparison, keep up with good work!

Another interesting test would be to make prints from both devices after some postprocessing and straight from the devices too. Ummm!

I think what you proved with this comparison is that phone camera has evolved to the point to being outstanding for most people and their intended uses. A photographer which I am knows and understands why in many many situations where a phone would fail for their needs. What's great is that some outstanding photography can be done with a phone camera. It's more about the users understanding of light,color and composition. Understanding of dynamic range,color temps,Depth of field and what elements and how they are composed that takes a picture and moves it into the realm of art and in the end a compelling thought provoking image . Which also can be made with a phone in the hands of a photographer that knows it's limitations and work around them. In the end a big part of dslr owners really don't take the time to learn all the aspects of photography. They don't have the monies or desire to invest into learning and crafting an image. So mostly wasted monies on entry level camera bodies and kit lenses that for the most part sit in their closet,drawer and only pulled out for special occasions. With the new phone camera tech now they can sell off that gear as phone cameras can cover most of a general users needs.

not really a surprise. But. Traditionally to get the best picture you need to to capture the most amount of light, thus the bigger the lens the better. It would seem that processing has made that not a myth. It would be nice to see what a DLSR would do with the same amount of processing.

I think the photo of the P40 comes with processed (Jpg) but the DSLR is in raw for easy editing.

You can get both I think, it will create a processed JPG and a RAW file.

can u do p40 pro plus vs DSLR?

You can't beat physics and DSLR will win if we do full manual and have around 2-3 good lenses covering different focal lengths. However as the title says this is a rough comparison for the average user. My parents can barely work a Nikon D3400 with the kit lens. Most people on the street are not gonna know the different focal lengths, sensor sizes, aperture , and exposure times. Furthermore most users are not gonna be printing full 48MP prints. It is all about the Instagram. An upgraded fast lens like an f2.8 for most users can be equivalent to the cost of a high end phone, and you are stuck with that lens mount. We also don't carry around our DSLR nearly as much as our smartphones. The fact that in 10 years good photos in most conditions including low light is no longer limited to a DSLR is pretty amazing in itself

I own a p30 pro and I really love it.

The clouds are a very clear indicator of which is which; in 99% of the cases P40 Pro will have much better quality on clouds while the DSRL tends to overblow the sky.

For travelling and just personal enjoyment, I will prefer the P40 pro. Hated carrying all the lenses and heavy camera all day. hehe

Salut și felicitări pentru munca care o faci. Din păcate chiar nu sunt de acord cu videoul acesta. Nu înțeleg de ce compari o camera de telefon care este gândită și optimizata sa fie folosita în modul automat cu un dslr care este gândit sa tragi în manual, sa tragi raw și sa editezi pe urma? Dacă chiar vrei sa compari atunci folosește dslr ul în mod manual, raw și editare după shoot. Toată lumea știe ca nu are rost sa cumperi un dslr ca să-l folosești pe auto. Din acest motiv gama profesionala dslr nici măcar nu are modul auto.

Wow! 20to P40 pro vs 8DSLR, really surprise me, i see the p40pro even working with a pro stage with no much problems, it's a nice option to capture awsome picks with no some much money.

Entertaining, but not educational. Even without the aid of post processing, DSLRs can bring about billboard quality pictures provided you know how to use it. And if you don’t know how to handle it, DSLRs can bring about more worse pictures than P40. Indeed a ‘blind’ camera test.

I just love the Huawei technology, how they performs better than any of the other smart phones in the market with magnificent hardwares and amazing processing tools. USA and Google tried to let it down but how they still best in the market.

The question here is not which one is better, but its when the company who manufacture this DSLR will close ?.! Actually this mobile changed the world, and removed so many things from our life, like land line phone, scanner, VCR, TV, Fax, school wall board, Radio, Cassette recorder, Books, Schools, Library, Pen, Papers ... and so on. And now it's in it way to remove Schools, Offices and others.!

Wow, Rally unbelievable When you were explaining the purpose of this video, I really thought the DSLR would beat easily the P40, but surprisingly it was quite the opposite. Really interesting video. I made it that the DSLR won by just 4 points. You have to realise that the smartphone has more lenses and more powerful post processing. With time, effort and know how the camera would be better than the phone. However for us non photographer s the phone needs less know how and talent. I'm gonna buy this phone
