Luc Steve obviously scratching is important. But imo there is no good reason to have a folding phone, but a folding tablet is more applicable. Like unless you are talking about women’s pants, large phones still fit in pockets. And now you have to unfold your smartphone every single time you want to use it which is a bit feeble. Particularly when ppl complain if facial recognition is 2ms too slow, but they glorify unfolding a phone. But tablets are hard to take places. So if a 10 inch tablet could be the same size as a galaxy s20 ultra I think that would finally make me go, yeah, a folding device is good.

No one thinks it's to protect the screen, it's always been about a larger screen in a smaller form factor. The concern about durability with current folding screen tech is valid though, all others so far have been scratchable with fingernails. Not sure about this phone but the fact that they aren't talking about huge advancements in scratch resistance leads me to believe it's the same. So, for now, it's still a valid argument that this folding direction is the wrong choice for the tech available but it's objectively the better form factor and when foldable screens have significantly improved scratch resistance then the other way, like the galaxy fold, will just look dumb.

@@HeadsetHistorian u should go back to last years videos and check the comments. They are undoubtedly about protecting the screens, nearly 80% of the arguments were about the screen getting damaged in your pocket. I know because I used to comment how this implementation isn't about protecting the display but more rather usability. They revealed this exact same phone last year. The fact of the matter is, this implementation is better for budget buyers who don't want to spend 2k on a folding phone. This allows u to get a budget folding phone with only 1 screen which is on the outside rather than inside, it is also more practical as you can use it folded as well as unfolded. The Samsung galaxy fold you can only use it folded with the outer oled panel, without that you cannot use it folded and its also known to be impractical because it's not the same as using the main display. Thus the only way to use the fold is by unfolding it. And you have to spend a ton more for that. I'll be honest I think the galaxy fold looks bad already 😂 it's too slim while folded to be of any use and just doesn't look good. I think it's more for bragging rights more than anything.

The only point I made against the original poster was against their claim that "everyone thought the purpose of the fold was to protect the screen" which is wrong, the purpose of the fold is to have a larger screen in a smaller form factor. The purpose of Samsung's implementation of the fold was partially (perhaps mostly) due to the fragility of the screen but that's not what was said in the original comment. I think the original comment might just have been worded poorly and that wasn't actually what they meant.

Liu Jinyang This. People who buy this phone usually could care less about durability. On TaoBao I saw people selling it for close to 20000 Chinese RMB. The people who buy this phone usually have the money to buy another one if it breaks.

This is probably the best foldable design I've ever seen. All they have to do to make this peak is by covering the non-folding part of the plastic screen with gorilla glass.

P.S. if they make a future version with even a halfway decent stylus, I'll be 100% in and loyal to them for as long as the phone exists. I loved my Samsung Notes until Samsung kept doing sketchy things and slowly ruining the Note line until I don't even want one now that my Note 8 has finally broken. No one else makes a phone with a stylus that's anywhere as good, and that's 50% of what I use my phone for. Drawing/art, reading comics/books, KZread. 1% calls or texting. No social media or anything here... so the actual functionality and ergonomics of a phone means more to me than how many selfies or tweets I can do on it.

Video quality is superb. Awesome camera. Great production.

One of your best reviews. I dropped the sub last year with the Pixel coverage. But this one A+. The battery test was spot on. No guessing at number of hours with x amount of usage. But showing actual usage and "real time" tracking. The camera tests were perfect. Exactly the places you would go on a weekend outing and the times you would really want to have a solid camera. The timings and cinematics were perfect too. Resubbing. No way am i dropping 2.5 grand on this, but you sold it to whoever has the $$$ and motivation to buy it.

I really don’t like how they have all of the plastic screen showing at all times. Putting it in a jean pocket would probably ruin the screen from scratches.

It's a much better foldable than other foldable phones though. Like he said, it's a phone first that can be opened into a tablet. The Samsung fold is a tablet that becomes a phone. The Huawei way is much better.

I've just got my Xs yesterday and I've been working it out for the last 24 hours nonstop!!! It's a amazing piece of tech and definitely the best phone/tablet/phablet I have ever seen/used!! Ok,the price is a bit steep but as the time goes by and you use it, believe me, it's worth every cent!!! For example, I've just wanted to check out the gpu performance and the higher refresh rate of the screen {and compare with a non foldable} so I fired up CoD and played around for few minutes and before I knew it, I was 3 hours further still playing CoD, but my conclusion is this - the transion effects in a fast pace game are so fluid and stunning, the details are amazing and in "tablet" /unfolded position, I just can't express how good it is.Unfolded, it is so thin and folded its just like a regular phone and that's not something you'd expect - you'd think that it would be thick and bulky, but nope - absolutely amazing. But to cut to the point - at the moment, it's absolutely the superior to other foldable {and regular} phones, and it's only the second foldable that they've made, and what is going to come next, i can't even imagine. Foldables are definitely the future of phone industry and for the end - Huawei Mate Xs is a superb piece of tech
