the Mate is overall better but just alittle increment. the mate has flickering problem in some of the slowmo. i read that p50 is coming in a month or two and would have 1 inch sensor.

poor Tony has to be sacrificed so people can use the Mate 40 Pro, like some sort of offering.

I'd say to sum up, P40 Pro does better with focusing, noticed the Mateyboy focus on the background a few times especially early on. The wide angle cams look quite similar, but main cam the Mate's colours look more natural. The Mate's front camera is a single super wide angle camera (fixed focus) but allows for the different angles of view. It's usually set up by default to display standard wide, not super wide angle view, it also allows for a punched in shot, giving in affect 3 different looks off 1 camera. The non super wide angles are in reality punched in/upscale, but they still look rather good! P.S looking at the Time of Flight Sensor rarely gives you eye to eye contact with viewers. lol!

The white balance is different. The pro is Warmer. The mate is cooler and looks more correct

The P40 pro looked way better on almost every shot. Just have to play with the tint or wb, if it has any.

The reason why the p40 pro appears to be red in the blacks is because of the lack of ir filter in front of the sensor, the colors should be a lot better and neutral if you put on a heliopan ir-uv cut on there.

@@obaobabob Yep, the idolcam has the same thing, so is most blackmagic cameras, I guess manufacturers just like to cheap out on these kind of stuff.

My brother bought the p40 this morning from currys...looks really good footage even in 4k...Cool Video...

Good review and funny

as a mate 20 pro owner and P30 pro user for a bit, I can tell that the mate 20 pro doesnt really focus that much on camera features. it's better at games and multitasking stuffs and mainly entertainment, P series in the other hand it always goes to a mile further than what mate did on camera, but huawei usually bogs down the APU performance when it comes to gaming and multitask, so you'll feel the P series goes a bit slow in a matter of 2 years of usage while Mate will still perform just like when you purchase it.

It's insane how good the P40 Pro looks to me. I have the Mate 20 and have always loved this Huawei's photo quality but the fact that Huawei doesn't have Google Services anymore (unless you're willing to do a lot of fussy workarounds here and there) really really sucks cause man i love my Mate 20 and wish i could give the P40 Pro a try.

Did you made any color corrections as the red colors are usually pretty saturated?

Both are unusable straight out of camera, I applied magic.

These need a slo-motion "buffer" function, record the last x seconds. GoPro Hero 9 has that?

Colour is nice on the mate. Hey, can you get some slow motion garbage truck action some day? Love the pigeon magic but I want to see the trash slow mo fly into an automatic sideloader or something.

That redish tint on grays and blacks may be from a lack of infrared filter on the sensor. The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras suffer from this problem to.

Could you test the ultra high speed in some situation that's not easy to extrapolate? Have it record whilst you flip the phone quickly or something. Or wave your hand right in front of it in and out of the frame.

Probably just the main cam though, not ultrawide. And it will have those strange colours with the RYYB sensor. My jacket always looks red, it can't do black lol.

@@cameraconspiracies Not only 1" sensor, probably upgrades with the Ultra Wide Angle too. On the next P50, both Huawei & Leica are seriously working on color accuracy on the RYYB system. Finger crossed it'll be a lot better compares to current Mate 40/P40.

@@cameraconspiracies Yeah, that's the problem with RYYB. So sad about the trade war, but it is well known that Huawei is not doing much good for videos on their smartphones.. Colors, bitrates and else.. Only slow mo is crazy good (but who uses that much?). Best colour science and consistency is with apple or google's pixels. Or gcam thrown with capable snapdragon devices. Other way to look up to upcoming Samsung's GN2 sensor, 1/1.12. Should be implemented in Xiaomi MI 11 Pro or upcoming Samsung's Note 21 (quess ultra, but who knows:D) By the way, love your style. Your'e unique and fun to watch. Also tunes are great :)) Keep up!

Each one has its plusses and positives. Which is nice.

I think the general problem with these small sensor cameras, isn't the small sensor itself, but the bit rate of 7mbps. The amount of tearing in casual motion is very noticeable, and then YT makes it worse.

The differences are minimal. Mate got the upperhand for the wide front camera and a bit better color science. You should have wait at least a yearly update phone, for much better upgrades. P40 to Mate 40 are only 6 month different. By the way, I'm from Malaysia, and a P40 owner 😆 You want extra charger? 😂

Mate is the winner for vlogging with front-facing cam, the one with stabe - works fine, great coverage, fine colors.

The mate looks better. I think maybe it's the highlights also because of the lower MP.

Sorrells not sandals are the proper footwear for a Canadian February. Go with the Mate 40 Pro for the color balance.

Mate 40 Pro Plus actually has a huge advantage more than Mate 40 Pro. Ultra Wide Free Form Lens and 100X zoom

Ha! I'm not the only madman to wear sandals in winter. I did ACTUALLY get frostbite on one toe this year 🤣

In terms of dynamic range, the Mate kind of seems weird. It does have better skies and better dynamic majority of the time, but sometimes it had very crushed blacks. Slow mo? The P40 Pro looks better, the Mate had aliasing (staircasing artifacts) and the stabilized one was too soft (painting-like) and overexposed. And colors do seem a bit warmer on the P40 than the Mate 40.

Sell them both and wait for phones with the Samsung Isocell GN2 sensor to hit the market in the 2nd half of the year. 1/1.12 inch, 50 MPix, HDR, 240p@HD (1080p or 720p?) and a totaly new dual pixel autofocus with diagonal pixel magic. 240p is USELESS though. We are used to 480p now! I think it'll up the game but... yeah, the toneh might be 😬

I have the Huawei Mate 20X and most times I like the images compared to my Samsung GN20Ultra. The Hauwei has more "warmth" and realism compared to the GN20Ultra's "digital" images.

Colours best on the pro but exposure seem a bit hit and miss. As for slow motion slower the better for your road cross dramas. Although your reverse walking pigeons

ultra wide angle on the back of the p40 pro is way better, it is wider and has no beauty filter on, and I noticed on the Mate there was artefacts on the building behind you at 1:26 that being said, indoor at the start of the video the mate looked better, I guess the 20 mp is only better in low light. too bad they didn't use the main senser as the ultra wide option.

CAN YOU COMPARE IT WITH OTHER BRANDS LIKE SAMSUNG, APPLE AND XIAOMI.

Mate 40 has really plastic smoothed looking skin. Is there a way to turn that off. Apart from that I think it looks marginally better than the P40 pro, but both look really fantastic for a phone camera.

MATE 40 PRO IS NICE. I THINK YOU SHOULD START REVIEWING CAMERA PHONES TOO.
