A like Mate 20 PRO camera because it is versatile. No other probe currently will give you so wide zoom range, JPEG processing is a bit bummer, but not bad nighter. And one can easily get around it using RAW if one wants... Options, I love options. But I also understand people that love simplicity of Pixel 3 or Iphone XS.

These types of camera reviews are the best because we get a true sense for how you used the camera and the story behind the shots not just some sample pictures played over catchy tunes. You have always been one of my go-to guys in terms of camera along with Juan Bagnell. Keep up the great work Danny. I may get this bad boy next year after the price takes a few hits and I can get it for a good deal. Anyone saying the results aren't that impressive are most likely hating or just in denial. The photos came out fantastic.

Edit: I love this phone, but I don't advise anyone to buy it, read my reply down below to know why. I'm exactly on the same boat as you. I have been fan of Samsung flagships since the original S1, never skipped any S or Note phone since then, always pre-ordered them, until I wanted to give the P20 Pro a chance. I bought it believing that it will only take a week or so before moving back to Samsung, as I always did before, but nope, the Note 9 was my 1st Samsung flagship ever that I didn't get, and we're talking about the best Samsung phone ever in here. As you mentioned yourself, I have a beautiful family with a girl and a boy, and taking great pictures of them is a priority for me, and I got blown away by the brilliant camera setup on the P20 Pro that, and again I'm quoting you in this, I felt this emotional connection with it almost immediately. I was amazed by how great the pictures I was taking of them were turning out to be, to the point that I was convinced that it's time to say goodbye to my DSLR, which I eventually did. And now, I'm using the Mate 20 Pro, and Huawei have outdone themselves again, as this is taking pictures I could have never thought a smartphone would ever be able to produce. I know people like to talk about the Pixel 3, Note 9, and Xs, but imo, nothing come close to this. It's like the Swiss army knife of smartphone photography, from the brilliant 3 sensors, to the features packed camera app.

@@ericliume sadly, it was returned. I got one for myself, another for my wife, in total had 6 units replaced, 4 had the gluegate issue, and the last 2 had trash screens. BOE panel had this severe color shifting, especially on the curved edges, and these is a video on YT demonstrating this if you search for Mate 20 Pro BOE vs LG. And the LG screen, that doesn't have the gluegate problem, had an exaggerated banding issue at low brightness, along with lack of contrast and greenish hue. So if you use your phone a lot in dark room, say when you're going to bed, you will see these problems the moment you unlock your phone.

I was particularly impressed with the aperture mode pictures you took....simply stunning. Ordered the Mate 20x.

some of those shots are amazing. I remember seeing the one with you and your wife in PR on Instagram. You are right though, specs shouldn't matter that much if the device is doing what you want in the end. I have 2 kids so being able to use my note 9 camera is just as fine. More videos like this would be awesome!

Great video, I like it so much because this video coming from real life, I have the same family and same Sony A7 Series camera as you do, too heavy to carry during trip .using two phones since P9, Huawei did really good job to improve camera every year, I have to buy 2 phones each year , but this year the Mate20 pro screen have glue gate( green screen) and I brought 3 of them , all the same. The Huawei service did great, they switched my phone every time I requested, I almost abandon this phone before your video, waste a lot of my time to switch them . But now I'm expecting the 4th one coming with underwater case.

True said! Im usin honor v10 (has same as p10 cam if am nt wrong) .. I din expect myself using monochrome lot mre n othr features like night mode/aperture mode experience matters!

I bought a Galaxy S9 few weeks ago and the camera is good enough for me but then after seeing your photos I was like "Damnnn very nice photos!" with all the sweet bokeh...I love it! I guess I will buy Mate 30 Pro next year lol by the way nice video!

Yes very good review. I have the Mate 10 pro but very happy with it. Got it for just £ 360 new In the UK. Mate 20 pro yes very tempting will wait for the price to drop a bit first. Anyway great photos . It's seems a very good all rounder ,ticks all the right boxes . Very good Thanks.

I have been waiting for this from you. But do tell, how is 1080 videos? Videos is my main concern because yes we all know they are doing amazing with the Photos but Videos... Maybe 4k videos are not as flawless. Personally, I go either 2k or 1080 if I get better quality and better stabilization. So, 2k (if it is even available) or 1080, how would you compare it against Note 9?

Putting aside the camera, how is the Mate 20 Pro as a daily phone in terms of audio output from speakers, software reliability ? 3. How is the telephony i.e. call quality, call drop outs etc.? How does it compare with say a Samsung etc.

I am watching a 4 years old video because I decided to start to use huawei after a lot of years using iPhone, and I chosed the mate 20 pro because Google services and as the main objective the camera today in 2023 still awesome and smooth, perhaps doesn't have 4k 60hz but I don't mind coz I don't really record on that quality tho, so I am learning how to use this cameras as a pro and everyday I learn something new, thanks for the video you got a sub, greetings...

Did u have master AI on? because everytime I point my camera to a person, it switches to portrait mode? and What is open aperture mode?

I've noticed camera video quality is crisp and also long lasting battery and superfast charge on the mate 20 pro. Very handy phone Although my main phone is the note 9!! Will be getting the s10 cant wait.!!

i like that you emphasized on the connection between the user and phone(camera). i was blown away with the P9's aperture mode and dedicated monochrome camera then, it really triggered my passion for mobile photography. i like that it pushed me to be creative and learn more by providing you with lots of modes and robust manual mode. since then, i've been using huawei phones.

Yeah it’s a unique system that’s different to what’s out there right now. I feel like in a couple of years with some refinements they would be number one if they play their cards right and fix some software issues

@@dannywinget i agree... it's quite different from the other flagships and can be a little intimidating, but once you get the hang of it and know which modes to use in which scenarios, its really addicting to take photos from a phone. i do hope huawei would really fine tune their cameras, because the hardware is already there, already available.

why didn't you try the video mode background de-saturation kinda feature which comes with this mobile?

Pretty great photos. I'd be interested to know shutter speed, iso, & aperture info.

Going back to look at your Note 9 video to compare. This camera is AMAZING though.

Are you not able to zoom in on a recorded video? Other phones you can zoom in on a recorded video but I try to zoom in and only get brightness and volume options

It’s actually a great camera as well. There is not a ton of difference but the 20 Pro camera is slightly better. It’s not a deal breaker though.

Nightmode pictures of people posing are always missing. Is it that bad?

You didn't speak about the front camera. I have seen few other reviews. They all have said the front camera performance is below average. Is it true? Has there been any OTA updates to improve front camer performance?

Hows the low-light performance without Night Mode? I'm really concerned that it does not have OIS and that the pictures will be blurry if our hands are a bit shaky or not as steady. Funnily they included OIS for the Mate 10 series.. I wonder why they ditched them on the Mate 20 series 🤔 AI can only do so much since its only software, an actual moving part will always be better IMO.

God Danny this was an Incredible video an incredible perspective and most of all and honest video I was just very relatable to what you were saying even if those things didn't apply to me I would either in corporate it to myself understand it see your point of view even if it didn't change what I want because everyone's different but it still matters because like you said it changed how you took pictures so it made you think twice and the end all from this is that I'm glad you educated it doesn't matter what the specs are at the end of the day the lens and the interpretation is what matters with a camera on a phone but in this case the phone follows up and is the only other phone other than the note 9 that's worth $1,000 or just over $1,000 I myself am on a OnePlus 6 t literally only because of the T-Mobile deal but I really study phones and it's good to see this kind of video from a different perspective that once again is just truly honest so more of these videos would be welcome wish I could just hang out with you for like a day hahaha and anyone reading these comments I apologize I'm using Google Voice to Text I don't have time to type I don't know how to do punctuation and I have two kids running around my apologies much love keep up the good work

best review of mate 20 pro on youtube. and for those who say huawei is chinese and chinese are always crap and this and that for their knowledge Huawei is 2nd world's biggest smartphone brand and they spend more than apple and samsung on their R&D so don't under estimate that DxoMark always provide good camera benchmarks and according to their test mate 20 pro have best camera on the market right now. just forget about marques what he say his impression video was totally biased and he do review every little google's items but he never review huawei phones due to biased opinions.
