花手毬→ クマツヅラ科バーベナ属
上から見た花の模様が似ているので命名しました。

    With these star patterns, the grain in some wedges is perpendicular to the grain in other wedges. How come they don't break when planed?

    Since each part is small, we believe that it will not be easily broken. I think the larger the parts, the more likely they will break.

    機械はWood super surfacer machineです。この機械で寄木を削るのは~0.5mmがベストです。 短いのは手で削ります。しおりを作るなら2枚重ねると良いです。

    I have often wondered why so many of the Japanese puzzle boxes use the Koyosegi pattern. It must be like 75 or 80% of all the boxes made. There are nicer patterns and opportunities to create new ones, but I have not seen a new pattern in a really long time. Why is this the case?

    Actually, there are puzzle boxes with various patterns. However, it seems that Koyosegi is the most popular. We would like to make new patterns if we have time.

    ​@@yamanakakumikiworks3129 Yes agreed and thank you for responding! I have collected maybe 40 boxes based on the marquetry, not the mechanism. Just looking for something new. I thought perhaps the artists making the marquetry were different than the artists making the boxes.
