HS2 Construction - Camden Cutting, Euston Approaches and Euston Throat

Video of the HS2 construction around Euston/Camden, whilst this area is "paused" there is a much going on.
Sorry for the lack of audio, I was interrupted during filming by security about a new injunction. The drone at no point causes damage, hinderance or prevents work being carried out. All filmed from publicly accessible land.

I am amazed that there are so many people who don't want a modern, efficient transport system in this country. Filthy lorries on concrete roads or modern electric trains? I know which one I prefer for my kids and grandkids

Precisely David. Hopefully someone with some balls will get this project built in its entirety and drag this country into the 21st century. We cannot keep being reliant on roads and heavily polluting internal flights should not exist. With passenger numbers back up to pre-covid levels and only set to increase, the existing network will reach breaking point and no matter of 'upgrades' will fix it. (They already tried)

@@davidwatson8292 .. haha, you mean "modern electric trains" that will run almost empty & will NEVER be carbon neutral through their entire, projected lifetime? The whole sorry project has been a disaster from day one & continues to be so. Labour have already stated that when they win the election, they have NO plans whatsoever to "revive" the scrapped sections & fingers crossed, they'll cancel the whole lot 🤞

@@thorley1969 .. I've got news for you .. even if HS2 had been built in full, it would have ZERO effect on internal flights (which are actually increasing due to the haphazard way our rail system is run & the ludicrous pricing system). Also, research shows that traffic on the M40 & M1 would decrease by less than 1%. Arguments that the rail network is at "full capacity" rely on a discredited, out of date forecasting model which overestimates long distance passenger growth & isn't used for anything anymore except to justify the monstrous vanity project that is HS2. Network Rail's "New Lines Programme Capacity Analysis" shows that WCML capacity is kept artificially low by private operators wanting to maximise profits. A DfT analysis shows that in peak hours leaving Euston, WCML trains were loaded at just 52.2%.

@@CRIMSONANT1 Sorry James but your cherry picked information is so out of date. How often do you travel on the WCML? Not often enough it seems. It doesn't take much do bring it to a snail's pace. The signaling blocks are often full and with the current system, trains are forced to slow down. Time to wake up and get with the times. High speed rail is coming whether you like it or not and phase 1 will be in service within the next decade. I suppose I should stick with tradition and ask you yet again, what is your most viable alternative for inter city transport in this country?

Please don't fret - sometimes, "silence is golden". THANK YOU for this update. What an intricate set of design work has gone into getting the project this far. We may need to wait for the opening (and the benefits) before the next "chunk" can move forward. Imagine if the team had built the Stockton & Darlington railway, then gone back to the canal... Nicely done.

That site looks suspiciously clean and well-swept. Could it be that all of a sudden there was a diktat from on high which led to the national embarrassment that is "Down tools lads!" "But we're on the books for another fortnight." "Err, Dave go down Poundland and get us a loada brooms sharpish."

Interesting update thanks. Some progress, notwithstanding the politics, visible from older google satellite view. See progress 09:30 on re linking Granby street, that will probably be so services can be diverted from Hampstead Rd 07:50 so that can be dug out and bridged under.

Nice update. Not sure how much work is going on around Euston as much of it is 'paused' at the moment I think. Would love to understand why Euston is so difficult/expensive to build. Most of the site clearance and demolition is done...can't be that difficult to build some simple platforms and a roof...or has the design been massively over-engineered?

The government wants to get private developers to help build the new HS2 station by essentially building a massive mixed-used development on top of the platforms. Right now, they have scrapped like 2 or 3 previous designs, causing the eventual cost to be even higher. Right now there is NO DEFINITIVE PLAN to build the station or combine it with a rebuild of the original Euston station, which is what really should be prioritized. Ultimately the tories have messed up and delayed Esuton for no other reason than incompetence.

Nothing but a monstrous blot on the landscape & within a decade of opening, this concrete monstrosity will be nothing more than a glorified cycle path. HS2 is an environmental disaster of epic proportions & Britain's biggest infrastructure mistake in half a century.

Err, I won't be cycling from Cheshire to London. I require a modern fast rail system with the added capacity to meet Britain's growing population over the coming 120 years. Just as the Victorians bequeathed us a large rail system (which we have now outgrown) so we must invest for our future. We cannot widen the M6 any more. However, in a democracy, you are entitled to express such an opinion. Just don't expect the Silent Majority to fall into line with you.

@@mikehindson-evans159 .. haha 🤣 Firstly, the "majority" are against HS2 as opinion polls have regularly shown for the past 12 years! Secondly, you might not be cycling to London from Cheshire but you certainly won't be travelling on a "high speed" train (have you been on another planet for the last year)? Thirdly, what was once forecast to be a world beating high speed rail service connecting the South to the North & beyond has been reduced to nothing more than a shuttle service between West London & Birmingham. Golborne link - scrapped. Eastern Leg - scrapped. Northern leg - scrapped. The disaster that is Euston station - "on hold" for two years & will only continue if private investment can be found. Add into the mix the blatant corruption within HS2 Ltd that's recently been exposed where senior executives shredded documents & used misleading projections to ensure that billions of pounds kept flowing into the project. Whistleblowers claim they were told by bosses to lie about the project’s cost & were sacked after speaking out. They say the government wasn't informed of the real cost of HS2 for years, all while voting on laws that approved its construction. You've been hoodwinked by HS2 from day one & have fallen for it hook, line & sinker just like all the other extremely gullible HS2 fanboys 😉

@@mikehindson-evans159 I'm afraid this same clown basically copies and pastes the same diatribe on just about every HS2 video but most of us live in the real world and will welcome a much needed upgrade to our transport system. He likes to brand it as a vanity project but he would have probably have been saying the same thing 200 years ago when the first rail lines were being built claiming we already have canals so we don't need anything else. It will be so much more than a 'shuttle service' as it will also carry the bulk of long distance trains off of the southern section of the WCML.
