[HQ] The Pointer Sisters ♪ Fairytale

PointerSistersT...
The song "Fairytale", a country song, written by Anita and Bonnie Pointer, reached number 13 on the pop charts, and number 37 on the country charts. Based on this success the group was invited to Nashville, Tennessee where they achieved the rare distinction of becoming the first black female singers to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. In 1975 the Pointer Sisters won their first Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for "Fairytale" , and Anita and Bonnie were nominated as songwriters for the Grammy Award for Best Country Song. The song would later be covered by artist such as Elvis Presley.

I enjoy their singing but I also like untrained singing voices. I don't think only great singers should be the ones singing. Creative people should be able to create. Some of my favorite singers can't sing or have a unique singing style.

I heard this on the car radio on the way to work in 1974. When I arrived at work (a radio station, and not the one I'd been listening to!) I told the program director that the Pointer Sisters had released a country tune. He laughed right in my face. Later, I found the single in a batch of 45s that had arrived earlier that day, and was the the first jock to play it. This was the beginning of my love affair with the Pointer Sisters.

I was trying to help you illustrate the events that unfolded. You don't have to get all uppity. The anecdote , as you wrote it, read as though you were some type of pioneer. When all you did was hear someone else do something and then do the exact same thing. That would be like an artist seeing Da Vinci's Mona Lisa on display and then later claiming to be the first one to paint it, when what they actually meant to claim was that they were the first to copy it.

Trust me, most people were glad Elvis recorded their songs, even today they get an annual royalty check from the sales! Dolly Parton turned down Elvis Presley to give up 50 percent of her song I will always love you. Now today she regrets it. People always accuse Elvis of stealing or not paying for rights etc, but the artists agreed or disagreed to.

Bingo.... They can trade songs back and forth....singing about hard times and hard luck. Check the history of the Mine Wars in the coal fields sometimes where a mule was considered more valuable than a coal miner...because a mule was harder to replace....and the miners were paid in "script" ...instead of money...and the "script" could only be spent at the "coal company's store." Several thousand miners and their families spent the winter of 1920-21 in tent colonies, and in May 1921 armed conflict resumed. Again martial law was declared, this time by Governor Morgan. Union miners of the Paint Creek and Cabin Creek fields mobilized to go over to Logan and organize the miners there and, if necessary, to fight force with force. Don Chafin, sheriff of Logan County, gathered an army of 500 deputies. The governor appealed to the War Department for troops to avert a clash, and an officer was sent to observe the situation. Google the "Battle of Blair Mountain.".

I NEVER forgot you Ladies, my praising voice just got lost in the cacophony we have today. I chuckle when I hear/see comments made that Fairytale is a country song. I always ask myself what country are they talking about. I hadn't known that fairytales were limited to any particular national, or rural areas. I hope all children experience fairytales, either real, read or told. If I had the power, every child on this planet would have a fairytale come true.

This performance is a reminder that back in the 70's performers had to really step up and deliver. Nowadays many really popular pop singers lip sync all the time and it's treated like it's no big deal. Mariah Carey's New Year's Eve debacle is an example of how low the standards have become for pop singers.

I want to go back in time and carry their luggage, get their coffee, and maybe make them laugh from time to time. I was teaching dance classes to actors, playing those moving Pointer Sisters who made it so easy to move.

Well, I just get annoyed when people put down Country. If its not your style fine. But this is Country. Just because they are more Soul singers, does not make it any less Country. Its a Country song anyway. I think people dont realize there are many types of Country anyway.

as all 4 sing the chorus, you can clearly hear all 4 voices seperately, but in unison, not overpowering either sister. thats a spiritual blessed gift

In 1974, they won the Grammy for Best Country Song and was nominated for Song of the Year as well. Here we are 50 years later, and white folks are giving Beyonce a hard time for releasing a country album.

I've loved this song since it was released. Anita's heart-felt lead and get sisters singing great harmony, this tune is a classic country tear-jerker. I was thrilled when I saw this clip, then I we amazed when I watched the entire show- pure gold especially the band. Initially I was disappointed that there was no pedal steel guitar in this arrangement. Now I'd rather listen to the piano fill accompany this wonderful quartet than even the studio recording. Thank you again for uploading this treasure!

Fairy Tale one of the best songs ever written for a whole bunch of musical reasons ! The beauty of them in every way is overwhelming . I have it on ifinite loop in my car; and in my head. A daily dose of this song just what the doctor ordered. So sad to see that Bonnie Pointer has packed up all her bags and walked away. She will never be gone. My heart goes out to her whole family. xoxo J

Absolutely the best sister group of all time. Sorry McGuires, Sledges, etc. And this is one of the best breakup songs ever. A fun video of this song from Fall of 1974. Pure greatness. I will never get tired of this.
