HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus v Gen10 Hardware Differences Overview

Ғылым және технология

Check out the full article here on the STH main site: www.servethehome.com/hpe-prol...
We take the previous generation MicroServer Gen10 and the brand new HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus and do a side-by-side teardown to show you the hardware differences between the two small servers. The HPE MicroServer Gen10 v. Gen10+ differences go well beyond size. The HPE MicroServer Gen10 Plus has substantial new differences including a return of iLO and a socketed Intel Xeon or Intel Pentium processor to bring back some of the magic found in the MicroServer Gen8 series.
Our full review is coming focused on the Gen10+ model. In the meantime, we wanted to show off the side-by-side comparison with the HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus v Gen10 hardware so you can see that delta clearly. Stay tuned to STH for the full review on this new server from Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

If they had added an m.2 slot even if it was only wired for x2 pci-e that would have easily made up for the removal of the 5th sata port.

Nice rundown, thanks! The old Opteron SoC was awful, glad to see that replaced Can't help but think the Epyc embedded line would've been a better choice than LGA 1151. Many people are asking "Can I upgrade this to 8 cores?", so it seems clear a 16C Epyc embedded option would have been popular.

Hi Ewen. We have the side-by-side teardown article on the STH main site (it takes a few minutes to propagate.) The full review we are aiming for around March 11. It is taking awhile since we are adding so much to the system and testing different configurations. Instead of making that review a comparison piece, we are moving the comparison to this separate piece.

I am glad they listened to their customers and implemented the changes we want and need.I didn't buy any Gen 10 servers (we were looking at 40 of them) due to the lack of ILO. The costs of sending someone on site was prohibitive. Not everything can be done on virtual servers in the cloud affordably. A lot of our offices are in small remote locations with little to no internet service.

That said, I'm not so keen on your comparison with the old Gen 10 which was - for me - a waste of space; I'd rather see comparisons with the Gen 8.

But my drop from 40W idle(+1HDD) to 20W is huge for my 2-battery APC UPS. So, I have some questions: 1. what is the idle power consumption with 1 HDD? (with an ECC-enabled CPU) 2. you mentioned DP+Xeon problems....what combination could I get ECC+HDMI with a passive DP-HDMI adapter? Server is near my TV and would double as HTPC. 3. can iLO be completely disabled? My Gen8 microserver takes 5W as soon as I plug the power. Remote console is nice, but I'm looking at every W now.
