I fitted mine in the first week i purchased a new 2017 76 series. It's awkward where it is but that's where you want it, next to heat that's why this is the best available.

Cheers mate, interested to see how it goes! Definitely a good thing to have it in there now.. how often do you check or have to empty your catch can? I hope what I was trying to explain made sense in the video!! Haha

Bradesss . I think they say you should check it every two fuel stops. Mine gets near full every 5 months.

If you want to use a filter on HPD catch can you can do it. I use an oil filter element of a Toyota Camry (Part number: 04152-YZZA1) that has the same diameter of the catch can but need to cut it so the overall height to become 4.5cm, which is important to allow the gasses to circulate better in the can, otherwise it's too tall and might block the circulation). you also need to cut away 4-5 folds of the filter elements to make room for the dipstick to go in. After using this filter I could get more oil trapped in the can and also some of the oil that still goes through has been filtered so it has less hydrocarbon residue that goes to the intake side. Probably it can last 6 months per filter if you want to replace it with a new one but it can also be cleaned by brake cleaner and reuse. I have recently bought an oil filter element of a Toyota Corolla (14152-YZZA6) with smaller diameter but found out that it also needs to be cut as the height is still too much.

From HPD site. How to Clean your Catch can - Step 1 - Fistly remove the inlet & outlet hoses of the catch can. This can be done with a screw driver or small socket wrench for worm drive clamps or a pair of pliers for spring clamps, depending on which clamps are provided with your Catch can Kit. Step 2 - Remove the bowl and give a quick wipe out to ensure there is no oil at the base of the bowl, once clean re-attach bowl of the can. Once this has been done spray a small amount of degreaser through the inlet and outlet hose tails on the catch can. Be sure not to use a Carby Cleaner as this can slowly deteriate the o-rings inside the catch can filtration system. Step 3 - Once the degreaser has dripped through the filters empty the bowl again, wipe and ensure it is dry before replacing the bowl. Please note that our catch cans work best with oily filters, please only clean the catch can when required.

You got an update on your catch can? I am installing mine next week, but it's a bit more complicated to install as one hose is at the back of the engine and the other is down the side.

Got the Terrain Tamer one and I’m collecting about the same as below....which I reckon is still a bit too much. Considered carbon clean but after a bit of research it appears to be a bit faddish. Will go the egr blanking plate with a 10mm hole if I get too annoyed with it! Or a bigger catch can! No engine ever suffered from having clean oil and enough air.... Good luck.

Hi Bradesss, how have you found the HPD catch can so far? Have you been catching much oil? Also what's the go with the filters elements? Are they replaceable? That's my only hesitation with the HPD catch can is that they don't use the consumable paper/mesh type filters that you can replace and makes me wonder whether the stainless mesh these ones use catches 95% or more of the gunk/oil.

Hey mate, yea it seems great! Catches lots of oil, done around 5000kms since my last service and it’s probably 1/4 full, much rather than dirty oil in the can that can be emptied rather than back in the intake. I don’t believe the mesh in the HPD filter is serviceable, although it seems to turn the vapors into oil in the can but I can’t compare because I haven’t seen the provent ones (assume they’re the two you’re comparing. Hope that helps slightly!

I honestly haven’t noticed any loss or lack of power in my 76, but if I do start to notice any it will be something I’ll consider!

I fitted a Pro Vent 200 and Im catching around 100ml per 2500km. I have just hit 180k in my Cruiser. How many K's are on yours ? Im thinking of getting an intake clean done soon

Ray Bush awesome! Thanks for that info! I just ticked over 150,000kms last week. I’m not noticing any sluggish performance at the moment, and I do a fair bit of towing so the engine does run a bit harder on the highway and think it keeps itself a bit cleaner due to that.. so until I notice any performance losses I might just leave mine, but keen to see how much the catch can filters out! Cheers

@@4wdAdventure how's it going a year later, have you had go do injectors yet? I just got a v8 troopy, the provent has great reviews but not a fan of the plastic vs what you've got. Cheers

No issues with mine, catches a fair hit or oil every 10k service. My mechanic said the provent has better filters on it as the HPD just had a gauze sponge to catch the vapor, instead of actually filtering the gasses! I’ve got 170,000 on mine and just had a full Intake clean last week when I had my starter motor replaced! Drives so much smoother now!

Looks like it would be quite difficult access to unscrew and drain catch can where its mounted? Is it possible to suck oil out the dipstick hole with a syringe and tubing maybe?

  • @4wdAdventure

    @4wdAdventure

    6 жыл бұрын

Bryan Lee I haven’t had to empty it yet, I’ve only been checking the dipstick every time I fill up with fuel (every 1000kms on average) I’ve done about 2000km, since installing the can and there would be about 1-2mm of oil on the dipstick so I think it should go a fair while. I can fit my hand in from the motor side quite easily and unscrew the bottom can with one hand.. but it’s still new; I think it might become more difficult if the can was full or when it gets dirty. Alternatively; the dipstick is about 6mm in diameter so it would be possible to drain the oil out with a syringe and a small tube for sure 👍

So which Cruiser model and year is yours? Just wondering whether it will fit that space on a 2018 76 series?

Bryan Lee mines a 2010 76 Series GXL Wagon. From what I’ve seen, this will fit all VDJ models from 2007 onwards although as stated in the video there might be a small fuse box where the can is designed to go, but the instructions include an easy option to move the fuse box to along side the battery (if yours is a model with it in the way)
