    I've been using this laptop for 4 years now and it's been a fantastic work partner. Sure, it's not as speedy as my newest laptop, but I've toted it through airports, to coffee shops, and to work hundreds of times (about half of which were just the laptop, no sleeve or case) and the leather still looks new. I dare say this is the one portable device I own that I'll never sell or give away, even when the inevitable happens and it no longer works. Bravo, HP, for creating my favorite portable device of all time. Cheers, all!

    Dan I totally agree with you. When you make a laptop that is meant to be ultraportable and elite in nature, you HAVE TO HAVE A GOOD TRACKPAD. It’s one of two of the things that you interact with the laptop every time you use it and not having precision is definitely a deal breaker no question.

    Daniel. I couldn't agree more with you. I own this device for about a month and I absolutely love it. I was looking for the perfect two in one for years, and this is finally it. I owned a Yoga, a Surface Pro 3 and a Surface book, all of them had significant drawbacks, as a laptop or as a tablet. This is finally a device which is great in both configurations. I don't mind the track-pad either. My one criticism is the position of the power button, which is not accessible when in tablet mode. How did HP miss that? Thanks for sharing your review. I am always a big fan of yours.

    I think the Surface Pro 6 is still better value. Especially as its on sale now. A Surface Pro 6 (i5, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM) + Type Cover bundle will cost about $999. Adding the pen will bring it up to $1099. And seeing the i5 in it is the quad core U-series one, it'll offer better performance. Oh and also it has a micro SD slot as well. Yes it doesn't have Type-C, but I don't think many people care too much about it.

  • @Anyguy4321

    @Anyguy4321

    5 жыл бұрын

    Surface pro 6 has no Lappability at all. That’s a big negative for a lot of people. Also the mediocre battery life is also a big turnoff for many people. As for performance, the quad core u series are still a significant step below the 45 watt parts especially inside there surface pro 6 which throttles them thermally with airless cooling. And more cores are only useful for certain workflows. For word processing and browsing the web, you only need fast single-threaded performance. The new y parts hit 3.9 ghz which is higher than the turbo of an 8250u part. As always, there are trade offs to be made and each person can decide what device suits them best. The Spectre folio is more of a MacBook Air competitor than a surface pro competitor in that regard. It’s aimed for office professionals and students who need a device with long battery life and snappy performance in office tasks.

    The moment you lifted the screen to show how you can tent the screen it just... 🤯 It became so clear. I knew it was gonna lay flat and then the leather made so much sense! When you confirmed my rapid fire thoughts I could only think that HP are freaking geniuses. BRAVO! 😂 I can't stand the idea of touching keys in a 2 in 1 when in tablet mode. Or playing extra for a keyboard and pen. I LOVE my Surface Book 2. But being the person responsible for purchasing the electronics in the house I wanted the next laptop for my family to be a little lighter (and would still give me access to things I need if I choose it to carry around for school). And still useful productivity wise. I love the use of a pen and really wanted that option. I thought of the yoga book 1 and then 2 (C930) but the cost for its specs were disappointing. This seems like a really nice option 😍

    I have this HP Folio and tried to change the drivers using this website, unfortunately it does NOT work on this folio so Im returning this laptop tomorrow. This laptop is my favorite design and the keyboard is amazing, sadly, this crapy touch pad is deal breaker, I cannot stand the way it randomly jumps around and as much as I like to keep it a external mouse is out of the question.

    Really bad move by HP not putting precision drivers on this. Though, you could just install precision drivers on the machine yourself. It works well with my old HP envy x360. Still that's an unreasonable ask for most consumers, should just come with precision touchpad

    It's not hard to install windows drivers; my laptop had ELAN drivers, I installed precision drivers and now it's much much better. Haven't had stability issues or major problems with them either.

    Yes, I wrote that guide. It still sucks because using 2-3 year old Precision drivers for a ThinkPad on a 2018 HP device still causes issues. Let's not make excuses here for HP. It sucks, end of story.

    Does the screen support tilt function for the pen?

    I've got a Spectre Folio which came for me with the HP Tilt Pen (some versions ship with the HP Active Pen). Although mine was the tilt version, I've never been able to get tilt working on the device. That's a factor of the pen, and not the display, so maybe that explains Dan's choice of the Surface Pen?

    IDK why they can't put the camera hole on the leather itself. Make one with less bezel and more screen space, I don't even want a bigger screen just reduce the overall size. I am pretty sure someone in corporate told the engineer, "hey make sure to have the HP logo on the screen and make it as big as possible, yea who cares about the bezel." This laptop if it has less bezel, and more screen real estate while at the same time folds the same way would have checked all of my buttons.

    At this moment, there doesn't appear to be any way of customizing the Ram and SSD sizes. You can only choose between the i5 or i7 variant. They're only offering 8GB ram and 256GB SSD. That's too bad and a deal breaker for me.
