One of the best laptops of 2020. Thermal and design upgrades are very good !!

Hey Danny, great review. What are your thoughts on this system in comparison to the Legion 5/7?

every laptop is almost good-great when it is at higher configuration, no doubt ur review is great but it would be awesome if you could review the base versions with not color accurate screens and with ryzen versions.

Best choice is reviewing the most worthed sku in the line, and for omen of course his choice is right. If you wanna have bad config, pick pavillion gaming instead

tip: don’t use the highest settings on all games, make the less important things lower and the more important ones higher

Very nice review, you didn't cover heating but I know from other vids that it runs quite cool. I'm considering the OLED panel but maybe thats overkill... what are your thoughts on OLED for gaming?

The pavilion one is still not available to buy (except in India, I think), so you gotta wait a little. The Omen Ryzen one is available in both hp US store and in best buy. Bestbuy has a nice discount rn, I can put the link if you want.

This would've been better if it was as unibody, metal body. It would also be cool if this had a physical cover on the webcam for privacy issues. It is nice that it has user upgradeable components. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is very buggy and not as smooth on the PS4. I wish thy did a better job with it, but I guess maybe they'll do a PS5 enhanced version of the Tomb Raider trilogy. I do agree the very clean, minimalist design is nice.

Yes intel goes up to 64gig. I believe the model comes with wifi6. But some have WiFi 5 I believe. One po my, others showed the WiFi card has one corner which is below one of the heatsinks. Go check some other videos which show better internal views

I really don't understand why they didn't move the display parts towards the back of the machine. Now display cables will cross your other device cables, makes it a bit more meaay

Interesting you mention the flex with the monitor, which I picked up on too so much so that I'm contemplating returning it. It screams cheap and cost cutting, though there may be design reasons behind it. Does anybody else feel this is a big HR Omen weak point that will prematurely wear out? Screens have traditionally been difficult/next to impossible to replace. Thankfully, I don't move my laptop all that often, so it's not as big a potential issue. However, I would definitely return it if I were always on the go with it. Thoughts on this?

It’s honestly not a big deal on everyday use. I just pointed it out because I have to as a reviewer. I have had zero issues with it in terms of integrity so you just have to make your choice up. Some of their other laptops are going this route as well.

Do you suggest it for graphics or using Unreal engine (develop gaming)?

Had it for a few months, it's really nice for gaming and from the performance with video editing, I'm pretty sure it'd run unreal engine pretty well

The hinge and display assembly looks weak. Do you think it might break down the road ?

It does have flex but like I said I can’t see it being damaged. I have had no issues with it so far. I think the performance and the overall feel of this laptop is enough to recommend.

Acer nitro 5 is an outdated laptop tbh. It doesnt compare to the HP OMEN 15. The acer nitro is a 600 dollar gaming laptop, they are going to cut corners when making a laptop that cheap, i wouldn't risk it especially considering the fact that the acer nitro 5 has been out for a while so it won't be as modern.

yes very good, go for the 1 tbssd and 16gb ram option. That will be the best for content creation. Just my two cents

They made it really easy to replace most components, there's a pdf with all the "official" parts you can switch out

Color is relatively bad, and a higher refresh rate will feel smoother, so I recommend at least the 144hz version

Would you suggest this laptop if for university? Since I'm going to be doing game development.

For a laptop dedicated especially towards gaming, this definitely should have a vapor chamber cooling system. Dell XPS '17 has it when it is not a core gaming laptop.

Indo t think they are targeting that segment of the market. Seem to be more of the mid-range market. Most models I know with vapor chamber are above the 2k range, perhaps even 2.5k range

@@RomboutVersluijs : Well, HP Omen line of laptops are especially dedicated gaming laptops. As I had noted earlier, Dell XPS 17 has a vapor chamber cooling system when it’s not even a hardcore gaming laptop nor advertised the same. HP should have definitely considered employing vapor chamber cooling system in the top end Omen at the asking price.

@@atomicprism913 nope! 94% SRGB around 70% Adobe RGB. It's fine for photo editing. People make a big fuzz about Adobe RGB, but you only use that if you got big ass calibrated displays.

Really depends what your doing. People globalise productivity work. But working in text editor or word Vs working in premiere or after effects is a HUGE difference. It really depends on how demanding your application is and what your doing with it. Kinda hard to tell. Since most reviewers hardly cover this productivity work, you need to look for reviewers which do. That segment. Most of them have a viewpoint on laptops with gamers on their mind.

Yes. Boot the bios (tap esc key while booting up), and there is a toggle switch which allows you to have the fans off at idle.
