HP EliteBook 840 G3 SSD Replacement - Laptop Repair
Hello everyone!
In this video we open up an HP EliteBook 840 to replace the SSD. We ran diagnostics USB Booting to Hiren's Boot and then running WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics Utility. The SSD failed the test which is a sign of the device malfunctioning. Any questions about the repair leave them in the comments section and we'll gladly answer them!

Hello Jesus, if you upgrade the SSD you will need to install Windows. The SSD is where Windows is installed, and replacing it or upgrading it will require a fresh install of Windows. Hope this helps!
can I to update a ssd M2 ngff 512GB at this machine?
My HP is not working, I'm trying to get the data from the ssd, do you now where I gan get a cable to connect that ssd to another pc through usb? thanks

Is there a way to stick a 2.5 SSD up next to the power supply? It has a SATA bay and a slot right there not sure where power from supply is nor how to wire it in and how to screw the SSD in

This specific laptop you can put another SSD in the empty Sata Bay, it is not next to the power supply connector, but you should be able to add the 2.5 SSD in the empty bay.
What's the empty slot below wifi card for? Simcard?

It's for another wireless network adapter.
Is it imp or mandatory to remove the battery while we replace the SSD? Please kindly confirm.

It's best practices to remove battery always.
My SSD failed to read... only the SATA works is there away to fix it thanks

Not sure, you would have to test with a new ssd, to confirm the port is working or not.
840 G3 is possible to upgrade dedicated graphic card?

you should pick which type you want, there are normal SSDs and NVMe's which are significantly faster, if you just want extra storage an SSD should be good to go, but consider buying an external SSD since the HP EliteBook 840 G3 has a USB-C port which is pretty fast compared to a normal USB-A port, but still, it's not as portable as an internal SSD.

I have this laptop but I dont have the admin credentials and its under my old jobs domain group. If I replace the SSD will it clear it out like a new laptop and install my own windows?

Hello Jesus. Replacing the SSD will remove all settings and configurations done by your old job IT. Operating System (Windows) will completely be removed and you will have to reinstall Windows in the new SSD.
Can I connect a pcie SSD ?

any m2 will work but the 2280(20mm wide 80mm leght)will be longer than the space.i put one in mine but had to force it

No, most, if not all 6th and 7th gen laptops use M.2 SATA. I tried installing an NVME but it doesn't fit.
