Wow, very impressive. It's really cool to keep old devices useful and alive. Humble computing - less things to break, less distraction, you own your data. Keep it up!

Wow-AutoCAD on a HP Palmtop. Never would have thought it possible. I used to run Derive CAS on PCMCIA on my 95LX for Calculus while in college. Cool.

Really neat piece of kit. I would really like to get one of these things to mess with.

In contrast, try running inkscape on a tablet. Yes you can on a netbook, or laptop, but then you loose the form factor. Thank you for posting this video.

Thanks for the video. Really enjoyed it. I have just found one in good condition but the system language in Latin . Do you know how to change the system language on this computer ?

Hello, great video! Which video driver you chose the first time you start AutoCAD? When you start the program on my 200LX, a list of video drivers but do not know which one to choose.

I think there was some setting or program I needed to add to my start up .bat to make this work. I'll check my system and will confirm later. Write back if I forget after a few days. Also, the HP200lx does not have the math co-processor, so make sure you have an early version of AutoCad (2.6 or lower). jtbworld.com/autocad-information

You need to call lxstat a couple different ways before any graphics work. Have you used this before? Contact me via email and I can send my .bat and associated files. An address should be listed on my main page.

I'm interested in those files, but your email isn't listed on your channel page so I can't contact you.

Very cool. I'm trying to find one of those for purposes of driving a packet radio TNC. Does 200LX come with any sort o built-in terminal emulator? I would imagine most old DOS based terminals should work, assuming they are DOS 5.0 compatible?

+ignacj I have not used this feature, but there appears to be a VT-100 emulator in the rom. Software compatibility is very good on the HP (if the software suports CGA graphics). Here a very old disscusion about running a terminal emulator on various late 90's devices including the lx200: groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.sys.handhelds/h40-RauifyU

+ignacj It sure does have a terminal. The old dos based HP palmtops are EXCELLENT for packet radio!

Thisismyname what's brilliant about this device is the fact that it runs on AAs - future-proof tech :) Take any device of similar age (including some very nice HP palmtops) and batteries are worn out and unobtainable!

Understood. I did this on quite a few old devices with more or less success. But the fact remains, LX200 runs on AA that are cheap and readily available as disposable and rechargeable. I know LiPo gives you longer run time, but I like convenience of AAs, especially for gear that I might use out in the field. Also when replacing original LiPo's with cells you buy on Amazon or ebay, you don't know the quality of those cells, origins or safety track record. From dealing with endless RC Lipo batteries I came to appreciate brand names simply for their reliability, cycle-life and sometimes warranty when individual cells failed.

I would love to see a device that had a non back lit VGA color screen (similar to the screens in the old Windows CE PDAs or Gameboy color) this size that ran on AA batteries. That would be my dream pocket computer.

@@bogamanzI think compaq made one with a dual scan display that took double as (compaq aero pda?). Trying to think of others the jornadas hpcs.. nec made the mobile pro that could take double as as well. That is why I adore my omnibook 425 and 430. They run on double as and can run most any dos application of the era

Can you do a video about how you got the autocad program on that device and where you downloaded it from? Could you run autocad on a palm pda?
