    I have listened to this song over and over and it invokes such a complex but familiar feeling of betrayal, rage, ambition met with defeat, the question of why even try to find beauty or meaning or anything worthwhile after such a realization? I can only imagine these were the types of thoughts Jesus had while praying in the garden or on the cross he had to fight through. Hozier is my favorite artist, and it’s because he has the ability to convey nuanced emotion in a way where it seems almost effortless. Brilliant work, as always.

    So you get it?.. I don't think life was liked too much at this time. You wouldn't believe what was going on. I don't know how much to talk about and how everyone would understand, although I am certainly glad that there is someone like you, now, that does hopefully possibly understand life normally. Life was NOT NORMAL. (Maybe this was me, in a past life. I've been here a long time and have been a lot of different people.) Life has mostly been too difficult, and waiting for it to return to normal. We have a chance now, more than I have seen before, and I hope we can make it. It requires everyone to stop looking at lies told by the devil and backed by hacked up Mind machinery. No it doesn't mean that the mind was hacked, it wasn't, there are different "plug ins" or "adaptors" to the Mind and some are misunderstood even to the point of false reporting, to US, by what we may see because we are not following the structure to how it works. Some of the profiling on some of these adaptors tell things about the viewer on the profiles of others, to see how they would act or treat such a thing about it, which explains quite a bit about the experience and character of someone. This has been exploited by individuals or groups and used to try to take over our governments, explaining our officials had faults that actually belonged to the accuser. So once we overcome this, we can move forward in life in other areas. I hope to return to the Church and live a nice simple life, although I am going to bring us our advanced technologies and focus on entertainment and sports technologies, and bring us new X-Games unbelievable. There is so much fun to unlock in our future you would (could) not believe it unless you remembered it!! I am hoping things go well, because if they do, they will go EXTREMELY AMAZINGLY WELL for the rest of eternity!! I am (*eyes closed/scared*) excited so much for us, although it feels like I am hoping we dodge from a wreck we are headed at. So I am freaked out. My health had has been poor and I haven't received any report from anyone YET.. So, we will see!!! Have a good day. (The name is "Who's Here?", btw)

    The victim says: ‘Why would you pretend to love me?’ ‘Why would you make me feel like I’m the one at fault? When the going gets tough you make me look like I’m the one who came up short?’ Why would you be loving [towards me]? Then the narcissist who hurt him, says, “Why would you be loved?’ You’re not worthy of love, says the narcissist. What about me and my breaking? Look everyone, HE (the victim) the real problem. “It's only said to be kind the time that you have with love (the narcissist is so nice to you-why would you(the narcissist) be loving?! “You're never told but you're loaned it” -Its not you’re (the victim’s) love.(says the narcissist.) “It's a lie, (but) the high that you have with love It feels like gold when you hold it And know its sweet,” (That’s how a narcissist traps you, pulls you back, time after time!)to know when it's gone.” -it’s a high to feel like they fucked up, and their sorry. You believe that lie because you WANT to, then we cycle back around. The Carousel From Hell, as I call it.

    I don't think it's either a break up song or a self loathing song. Wasteland, Baby! is a deeply political album wrapped in the language of romance and relationships, and this song fits very neatly into that framework. Pay attention to the second verse - "and now the world falls apart/it starts with their acting up/I wouldn't say it but I blame them/the bleeding hearts, the arts/and that other stuff." It's the voice of a reactionary asking why "those people" (racist dogwhistle) are "acting up," and devaluing compassion ("bleeding hearts") and the arts, as is typical of conservative rhetoric these days. Why would you be loving? Why would you do anything for others? You're helping those people ("those who are most in pain" "the breaking of yoke and chain"), why aren't you helping ME? And that's where the second part of the chorus comes around - "why would you be loved?" - revealing the hollowness of this kind of reactionary, self-centered rhetoric. I see this song as, essentially, the question that the rest of Wasteland, Baby! is answering. Be loving, because then you will be loved - be loving (not in a strictly romantic sense at all), because it's the only way to save each other and ourselves in a world that does in fact feel like it's falling apart.

  • @ObiGynKenobi

    @ObiGynKenobi

    Ай бұрын

    @@adriangibson66 I agree with your take in regards to the second and third verses, but the first verse and the bridge don't really feel political. They're the refrain of someone who has loved deeply; someone that has given their all time and time again (either romantically or platonically) and felt the devastating tidal wave of heartbreak when that other person casts you aside. Perhaps the 2nd and 3rd verses are the callous, self-centered result of repeated wounds caused by vulnerability gone sour. Eventually, you give into that self-preservation impulse, close off your heart and become cold and jaded unless you make a conscious effort to hang onto your empathy and compassion.

  • @adriangibson66

    @adriangibson66

    Ай бұрын

    @@ObiGynKenobi Oh yes, to be clear I agree the first verse is about love and isn't really political the way the second and third are - I see the first verse as reflecting a sort of cynical idea that if love always ends in heartbreak there's no point to it at all? But of course there are other interpretations, that's just the one that's meaningful to me bc it's how I used to think. But I thought the second and third verses were remarkably neglected in conversations about this song and wanted to highlight them! Very much a both-and kind of song, it's doing several different things

    [Verse 1] It's only said to be kind the time that you have with love You're never told but you're loaned it It's a lie, the high that you have with love It feels like gold when you hold it And know it's sweet, to know it when it's gone, baby So why, why, why [Chorus] Why would you be lovin' Why would you be lovin' Why would you be lovin', hey And, hey, why would you be loved Mm, hey, why would you be loved [Verse 2] Now the world falls apart it starts with their actin' up I wouldn't say it, but I blame them The bleedin' hearts, the arts and that other stuff All the same motivations will melt away Like snowflakes on a tongue, baby So why, why, why [Chorus] Why would you be lovin' Why would you be lovin' Why would you be lovin', hey And, hey, why would you be loved Mm, hey, why would you be loved Mm, hey, why would you be loved Mm, hey, why would you, why would you [Refrain] Why would you play it all on somethin' as hollow as trust? (Hey) What if you gave it all, to find that it wasn't enough? (Hey) What if under the gaze of all, you come short when the going gets rough? [Chorus] Why would you be lovin' (Hey) Why would you be lovin' (Hey) Why would you be lovin', hey (Hey) And, hey, why would you be loved (Ah) Mm, hey, why would you be loved (Ah) [Verse 3] They look for somethin' to be done for those that are most in pain What about me and my achin'? The scales rehung, the breakin' of yoke and chain What about me and my breakin'? And if you ain't for all, how could you try it all, baby? So why, why, why [Chorus] Why would you be lovin' Why would you be lovin' Why would you be lovin', hey And, hey, why would you be loved Mm, hey, why would you be loved Mm, hey, why would you be loved Mm, hey, why would you, why would you [Refrain] Why would you play it all on somethin' as hollow as trust? (Hey) What if you gave it all, to find that it wasn't enough? (Hey) What if under the gaze of all, you come short when the going gets rough? [Chorus] Why would you be lovin' (Hey) Why would you be lovin' (Hey) Why would you be lovin', hey (Hey) And, hey, why would you be loved (Ah) Mm, hey, why would you be loved (Ah) Why would you be lovin' (Hey) Why would you be lovin' (Hey) Why would you be lovin', hey (Hey) And, hey, why would you be loved (Ah) Mm, hey, why would you be loved (Ah) Mm, hey, why would you be loved (Ah) Mm, hey, why would you be loved (Ah) from genuis.com
