It's a nice track, but it doesn't come near other songs written during this time. People seem to take for granted that no good music can come out anymore, yet some amazing albums have been dropped just this year (well, 2016, but you know what I mean). Blackstar, A Moon Shaped Pool, Blonde, A Seat at the Table, Atrocity Exhibition, Awaken My Love, Malibu/Yes Lawd!, these are just a handful that immediately come to mind. Lemonade was a great one too. Blackstar, Daydreaming, Pink + White, Don't Touch My Hair, Really Doe, Redbone, Come Down/Suede are songs from the albums above that outclass this one. What I'm saying is there's plenty of good music around, you just need to look for it. And the stuff I wrote goes from experimental hip-hop to ambient rock, neo-soul and funk. And I don't mean to disrespect, I like Hozier and was crazy about him some time ago.

I only knew a single song by Hozier when I watched The Legend of Tarzan but when this song played at the end I just knew it was him. Unmistakable. Distinct. Unforgettable. I could pick him out of a million singing angels.

Honestly, listening to this over the years, its changed in meaning for me at least a few times. I used to listen to it while pounding cheap whiskey and thinking about my ex. Now i listen to it to remind myself that I, like all people, have a desire to be loved. It reminds me to not get too down when things don't work out. To remain myself, face the pain, the loneliness, and accept it for what it is, so that I can change it. Not everything is meant to be, or even healthy, but its all a part of exploring a part of myself that I admittedly dont know much about. I havent been in many relationships, but I've always been prone to an obsessive, overly passionate type of love, thats always led me astray. It reminds me to detach myself, to love myself, to strive to be more reasonable in what I expect from loving another, and to be patient with myself as i explore this uncharted territory. All in all, it reminds me, that love is about growth. Not passion or possession.

I once kneeled in shaking thrill I chase the memory of it still, of every chill Chided by that silence of a hush sublime Blind to the purpose of the brute divine But you were mine Staring in the blackness at some distant star The thrill of knowing how alone we are, unknown we are To the wild and to the both of us I confessed the longing I was dreaming of Some better love, but there's no better love Beckons above me and there's no better love That ever has loved me, there's no better love Darling, feel better love Feel better love And I've never loved a darker blue Than the darkness I have known in you, own from you You, whose heart would sing of anarchy You would laugh at meanings, guarantees, so beautifully When our truth is burned from history By those who figured justice in fond memory, witness me Like fire weeping from a cedar tree Know that my love would burn with me We'll live eternally Cause there's no better love That beckons above me, there's no better love That ever has loved me, there's no better love So darling, feel better love Cause there's no better love That's laid beside me, there's no better love That justifies me, there's no better love So darling, darling, feel better love Feel better love Feel better love Feel better love Feel better love Cause there's no better love That beckons above me, there's no better love That ever has loved me, there's no better love So darling, feel better love Cause there's no better love That's laid beside me, there's no better love That justifies me, there's no better love So darling, darling, feel better love Feel better love

The end where Tarzan comes with his animal friends to rescue her hits me so deep. Beautiful young Hozier with a shiny black piano, the platonic bond between the beastly animals and a man, the love between two very different humans, together accompanied by Hozier's passionate delivery and the beautiful words all at once, melts my heart.❣️

The music, the story, the characters, the love, the words, and what is so deeply felt but not quite spoken... Everything. Few things make me fall in love with art these days in this way; when we find it, we must hold onto it. I am so happy you loved it too! He disappeared for 2 years and comes back on fire. I love his unique sound. When I first heard this after watching The Legend of Tarzan, his voice was unmistakeable. I missed listening to him. Well done Hozier, well done. And welcome back.

I went to the theater to see this movie twice just to hear this at the end. Both times I ran up and down the aisle, jumped up and down, scream-sang along, weeped in joy, received harshly judgemental stares from exiting patrons, and regretted absolutely nothing :D

To this day, the best love song I've heard written by a poet. But painfully underrated.
