Hoyt Carbon RX7 Ultra vs VTM 34: Which Bow Wins?
Спорт
In this video, Tony puts both of Hoyt's 2023 flagship bows to a head to head comparison. The Carbon RX-7 Ultra is Hoyt's premier carbon riser bow while the VTM 34 is Hoyt's premier aluminum riser bow. Both are nearly identical in specs, with the main difference being weight (8oz difference) and price ($500 msrp difference).
Tony gives real feedback on all aspects of the bows that anyone considering upgrading would want to know.
The VTM 34 is the Cameron Hanes Keep Hammering signature edition in Origin's new raptor camo. You have to see this pattern, it looks incredible!!
The Carbon RX-7 Ultra is in Hoyt's Blackout finish and looks sinister!

Thank you for watching this video, I couldn't be more impressed by both of these bows. They have their similarities as well as differences that will be ideal for different hunters. Look for our Colorado turkey hunt video next month to see which one I end up taking!
Literally deciding between these two bows! Thank you for taking the time to post this video!!! Very informative and great review.

Congrats on the win. Great review on both. I also felt the difference between last years Ventum and the RX7U. If my local shop could have been given a quicker or accurate ETA from the point when I ordered it to the point where I had to have something for my hunt I would be shooting a RX7U right now…..when comparing the Aluminum bows though…the feel of the Mathews V3X 33 won me over the Ventum by only a slight bit…..I’ll still end up getting that butter smooth RX7U….they are a dream to shoot and the best feeling bow I’ve ever tried to this date.

thank you! You're right, so many of the bows on the market, especially Hoyt & Mathews, are great bows and very similar in performance as well as shooter feedback. There's just something about the RX7 Ultra that makes it different (and better in quite a few aspects) than the others, and "butter smooth" is the perfect description. You're gonna love it! Thanks for watching!
Great review, I really enjoyed it. One question I have is if you noticed any difference in forgiveness at longer ranges, given the different brace heights?
@texastotable
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Jody! I’m glad you liked the video. I havn’t noticed one being more or less forgiving than the other, but in fairness, I am still working to get a tape on the VTM34. I’ve shot it out to 50 yards so I should have it doped this weekend and can send some arrows down range at distance to give perspective. I think that would be a great video to follow up on this comparison so I’ll work on doing that. I will say, out to 50 it is shooting very tight groups but the 80-100 yard range will be more telling. Thanks for the question/idea, and keep an eye out for that video!
Thanks for doing this comparison, I’m looking at these two right now. Btw, what release are you using? Tks

Glad you enjoyed it! They’re both incredible so it will take shooting them back to back to back to see which one you prefer the feel of for the type of hunting you do. I’m leaning toward using the Ultra for muleys and the VTM for elk this year, and one may even put down a black bear. I use the Carter Wise Choice with a Tru-Ball wrist strap so it’s always ready. I’m probably going to do a short video about that’s stupid because I get quite a few questions about the combo. Thanks for watching!
You can't go wrong with either. I'm extremely happy with my ultra, especially during the late season when the temperatures dip below freezing.

I just used my draw weight scale holding each from the D-loop with 5 arrows in the Quivalizer. In fairness, this scale is notorious for being a little off compared to the Lancaster version but the weights it showed were: VTM34: 7.98lbs RX-7 Ultra: 7.46lbs Thanks for watching!

Thanks Will! I ended up taking the RX-7 Ultra on our elk hunt, I’m just so consistent with it and the weight difference is noticeable. So much so that Amy Jo is looking at making the switch to carbon for next season. The VTM34 is amazing and so fast but the Ultra wins for me
Do you remember the HOYT FACTOR thats what i use to own i loved it what is your opinion on the Factor.
@texastotable
11 ай бұрын
I have never had the opportunity to shoot the Hoyt Faktor. It looks very similar to the Torrex. I likely couldn’t shoot it just from not fitting to the bow. With a 30” ATA and 30” max draw length, it wouldn’t fit me at all. If you are looking for a new bow that’s similar, I’d try the Hoyt Torrex for sure
Great review! I wonder if the extra fps is from the shorter brace height 🤔
@texastotable

Thanks so much! I believe the brace height and maxed cam draw length are the reason but that much fps blew my mind. Both are amazing bows for sure and I’m fortunate to be able to own and compare both. Thanks for watching!

@@texastotable I appreciate it my man
Great video! I found myself in a similar situation with the rx 7 and the VTM 31. I went with the VTM for the minor upgrades in features, which I believe will be scene on this year's carbon bow lineup. I was interested to see such a wide fps difference between the larger bows. The 30-31 inch bows, vtm and rx7 were very closely matched in that category.

Thanks Joseph, really glad you enjoyed the video. The speed difference really shocked me as well. Hoyt really outdid themselves with the RX7 & VTM bows. Enjoy that VTM 31!
@josephmarino6985
Жыл бұрын
I think your speed difference is a combination of 1/4 ATA and 3/4 increase in brace height. When I preferenced the rx7 and the VTM 31 being more comparable with FPS, the brace high vs ATA are closer. Happy Hunting!!

Hoyt has said where you are in the mods also has an effect on speeds. For me at my 29in draw the vtm 34 would be faster then the vtm 31 or rx7 because I would have the mod maxed out.

@@texastotable nice I got the 4mm axis myself, 4 AAE Max stealth vanes, gonna run the 55 grain titanium half outs and either 100 or 125 magnus stingers this year and see how it works out. I can’t decide if I want more FOC along with arrow weight. I was apprehensive coming down to 4mm. Shot 5mm for years in competition but I’m liking it a lot so far. They’re both amazing and can shoot incredibly fast while remaining extremely quiet but after this year’s elk hunt, based off weight alone, if I had to pick one it would be the ultra.
Nice review. Thank you. On the RX7 Ultra you are not at the top of the mod draw length (maxes at 32"), whereas on the VTM 34 you are at the top of the mod draw length at 31" of draw. This is most likely why you feel some differences in back wall, etc. The 7" brace on the RX7 Ultra is why speeds are slightly lower than the VTM 34.
@texastotable

Thanks for watching! You're definitely right about the cam mod and brace height, I just didn't think they would make such a significant difference to feel and velocity (5% faster speed). Either way, both are phenomenal and I'm undecided as to which is my #1 choice for September will be

It definitely takes shooting them side by side A LOT to compare them and find which feels right for you. I still don't know which one I prefer because they're both so uniquely different. The VTM34 is going on this week's turkey hunt so hopefully I have more feedback shooting something other than foam with it in the mountains so I can report back. And that rooster is a rascal, he's found a way into a couple of our videos LOL. Thanks for watching, Rick!
Wish the 34 had 7 inch brace and 75 percent let off..
Great comparison, but honestly, kinda lost me with the difference in weight. I’ve got numerous bows and can not tell an 8oz difference at all.
@texastotable
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. As for the weight, I’m not saying the VTM34 is a cinder block, it’s just that with me going back and forth between the two so many times during the filming of this video, I could absolutely tell the difference in their weight. 8oz is not a lot, but if I were blindfolded and held each of them, I’d be able to pick them apart every time
I shot both today, it’s such a hard decision. Currently have an rx1, have you made a decisions yet as to what you prefer? 😂

They are both phenomenal bows that hold and shoot so consistently that you can't go wrong with either. In the last few months I've been leaning more toward the RX-7 Ultra for overall feel. I did change the let-off to 80% and I actually like the bow even more with that higher holding weight. I'll be hunting september with the RX-7 Ultra, but still plan to be using both equally after that to give the VTM34 more chances and to find which type of hunt I prefer each bow for since the weight is the biggest difference between them. Thanks for watching and let me know which one you end up going with!
