How would I make my Iperf server accessible from the outside world? I would like to use this tool to test my ISP. Would I just have to setup port forward rules inside my router?

How to test connection from server to TV? I tested this with Computers and I get about 0,9 gbit/s. But it is possible that my TV isnt capable of 1 Gbit? Because I am streaming 4k movies with PLEX media server and I get buffering.
thanks

any way i can measure the WAN speed using IPERF ?
@Behfor
6 жыл бұрын
As far as I know there are some public iperf3 servers that you can use for that purpose.
I only get 100mbits via WiFi network, even though my WiFi Router is capable of up to 1.7Gbps and laptop @ 433mbps, how do I make my laptop utilize the full 433mbps speed?,or maybe even half of it, as 100mbits is just soooo slow. Heck my actual internet could go well over 200mbits, but local network is much slower. :(
My lan on my router is only 100 megabit. If I got a gigabit switch would the devices connected to the switch be connected with a gigabit link?
@Behfor
6 жыл бұрын
That's correct, normally when 2 devices connected to the same switch want to talk to each other their data stays within the switch and if it is a Gigabit switch then their connection should be 1 Gbps too (Of course there are exceptions to this in more advanced networks when there are VLANs and routing) but if data needs to go to the router (using internet or a connection between a device connected to switch and a device connected to router) then the speed should be 100 Mbps. Thanks!
@SilentShad0W679

Behfor So file transfer between computer connected to the switch will be gigabit. And if it get stuff from the router it will be 100 megabits?

@Behfor

Yes, this (iperf/jperf) can be used with any routers. As long as 2 nodes are connected to each other this should work fine!
I am facing a issue on fiber. My upload download speed is 20Mbps and if i upload video on google drive it uploads by taking all 20Mbps. But when i stream my bitrate fluctuates some time goes to 100's and frames drops. My isp is saying they have tested all the backend all is fine. I was streaming at 3000bitrate on same connection with 8Mbps all was fine but when I upgraded this issue occured. Can you help me

ohhh so it was the cable!!! I will get a cat6 cable then. I didn't count that detail.

Yeah in this case the problem was the cable, CAT5 is very old and it would be better to replace it with CAT6! Thanks!

C.rolando Remember too that Cat5 and Cat5e are not the same. Mostly what you’re getting when you buy or get a cable with a device is Cat5e; which works perfectly fine in a home or office business setting. You don’t NEED Cat6 unless you’re going to implement 10Gb, which is used in corporate environments mostly. And even in those scenarios the speed to the PC from the switch is usually 1Gb. The 10Gb is generally used between the edge/access switch and the distribution/core switch.
Hi I got my laptop listening as a server on port 5201. But how do I stop it now?

@@Behfor Ahh thank you. Thought it was more complicated than that. May I ask you another novice question: When testing my LAN speed for my IPad or iPhone back to Laptop, I get super slow speeds (60 Mbits/sec) compared to WAN speeds (950 MB/sec). Any ideas why?
wow I just realized my network has mixture of different cat types :( ... replacing them all now

I says it requires a server to client test, but literally, you don't have to run it on the server right? I can designate another client workstation and set it as a server and configure another client workstation and that's it. RIght?
@Behfor
3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can set a workstation as an iperf server.
@simply-tom
3 жыл бұрын
@@Behfor Ok, that sounds easy enough. I will actually run this on my network tomorrow at work. We don't have that kind of money to spend on expensive testing software so this is perfect. Our ISP only measures speed from the router to their outside connection so I will measure our internal LAN speed. Thanks again!
@Behfor

You're very welcome! Yeah this is a great tool for testing internal network. Good luck!
None of these commands are recognized for me.
but how can i test bandwidtth to router ?

Some Wireless routers allow you to install Iperf server on the router itself, if you have an Asus router with Asuswrt-Merlin firmware you should be able to do that.
@user-fh5hs3nq2u

@@Behfor I want to do on tp link, but have also mikrotik and asus.
@Behfor
Ай бұрын
@@user-fh5hs3nq2u you can look into installing 3rd party firmware like openwrt and dd-wrt, they allow you to install entware which should have the Iperf server. I havn't touched dd-wrt and openwrt for a while so make sure to do your own research too.
@user-fh5hs3nq2u
Ай бұрын
@@Behfor I tried to install openwrt on one tp link and it didn't turn out well, so I'll probably stay with the fact that I won't measure it via the router 😀.
@Behfor
Ай бұрын
@@user-fh5hs3nq2u I see. Another option would be to hardwire a computer that is also an iPerf Server to the router. Depending on the router and the computer, this connection could be 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps, or 10Gbps. Let's assume it is 1Gbps. Now, if you use a wireless client as an iPerf client and run a speed test to the server, if the result is less than 1Gbps, this means this is the WiFi speed between the wireless client and the router. But if the result is close to 1Gbps, then you know the wired connection is the bottleneck, and your WiFi speed could be faster than 1Gbps. Hope that makes sense.
I just drop my stuff like iperf3 and other stuff into system32 folder .. it makes life easier lol
Lose the music, but otherwise excellent
You sound like electro boom lol
Why am I getting these insane transfer speeds? lol 0.0-10.0 sec 35.8 GBytes 30.8 Gbits/sec
WTF!!! Here I'm happy with my 50mbps😂 & you're talking about gbps..To be honest, 938mbps seems like an error for me.. 😝 In my area 200mbps is the max 😂😂
@Behfor
4 жыл бұрын
This is network speed not Internet speed! I think you probably were misunderstood, because 1 Gbps is pretty normal in wired connection.
@devikasnair5580

@@Behfor Both data transfer rate and bandwidth(2.4) are low here. I'm located in India :p here recently they provide upto max 1gbps only on top cities and it's about 55usd per month(4000rupees) so most of us choose 50mbps plan for 6usd per month.. (600 indian rupees) it's expensive in terms of rupees..
@Behfor
4 жыл бұрын
I understand, but this video was about internal network speed, and has nothing to do with the service provider or internet!!!. Every wireless router you buy today can provide 1 Gbps wired speed (regardless of what your internet speed is). You can use your internal network to transfer files between computers in your network without any internet connection. In this video I tested the internal network speed, no internet needed for this and you don't pay anything to anybody. I hope you got what I'm trying to say.
