    I think this movie is so beautiful honestly. It’s a little hard to follow, but like Rob said, once you watch it a few times it clicks! The whole movie is basically one big circle. We see at the end that Sophie goes back in time, and at the beginning we hear Howl say “I’ve been looking everywhere for you”, so you don’t really understand it until the end. Also that’s why Howl made his castle move! He built it to look for Sophie, and he dated a lot of pretty girls in hopes of finding her. He even worked as a double agent in the war in case she was on either side. This story is so beautiful and I’m glad y’all reacted to it! ❤

    Sophie has her own magic, the things she says become true. The Witch’s spell turned her into an old woman, but it is really how Sophie sees herself. Her negative self talk reinforced the spell. When she felt self-conscious, or weak she was old. The moments when she became young are her moments of confidence. In a way it is connected to her love for Howl. Loving someone and being loved in return makes you more confident and brave.

    In the book, she would accidentally enchant the hats that she would make by saying things like “this is a hat for someone that will marry into money.” If I recall in the book, they called her type of magic “words of power”

  • @JuanitoEsBonito

    I always suspected Sophie had magic simply because of the full on power up Calcifer got from eating a few strands of her hair. But that may have no correlation.

    So im just watching them react to it now thinking more on what you said. Is this perhaps the reason why Cal listens to Sophie (especially in beginning while cooking) Markl exclaims cal is listening to her Howl says not just any body can do that Im looking at this movie in a whole new perspective now holy 😍

  • @itsjust_jia
    @itsjust_jia5 ай бұрын

    Little fun fact: Josh Hutcherson plays Markl ! Also, i don't know if you figured it out already, but the reason why sophie was sometimes shown as young again was because in those moments she had more confidence in herself. For example, the scene where she was talking to Madame Suliman for the first time, she defended Howl but also stood up for herself, as opposed to the beginning of the movie when she was having trouble telling the creepy watchmen off.

    interesting fact about the movie because I am obsessed the only time that she goes back to being young is when she is confident in herself, whenever she gets self-conscious she gets older because that is how she sees herself on the inside. turnips true love is Sophie but it isn't the other way around, so a "kiss from your true love" really had emphasis on your This movie is supposed to be a commentary on war, when he talks about the other magicians fighting tthe war and losing themselves, no knowing what side they really are a part of anymore its supposed to really bring it home how war doesn't benefit either sides and how much people are able to lose themselves markl is voiced by Josh Hutcherson Calicifer being so "obedient" with Sophie in the beginning really is just howl loving her. if you rewatch it you can see all of the times it is mentioned that Howl has been "looking for her" and that he already knows who she is and is in love with her.

    In the moments when Sophie seems to be younger it's because she's feeling good and beautiful the way she is or when Howl makes her forget this thought of not being good enough (this will happen more and more as they live together). And the fact that Howl is a wizard allows him to see her as she really is without the spell and to see how beautiful her kind heart is. 😍

    I simply CANNOT take it with Christian Bale's voice in this movie, any time Howl speaks I just have flashes from American Psycho and that makes everything he says super creepy instead of nice and comforting. I grew up watching the French version and the voice was much sweeter and more fitting in my opinion. I'm absolutely not saying Christian Bale is bad in any way, he's doing a great job. I just can't shake off the American Psycho voice.

    Howl and Sophie presents the problems with confidence in two opposite ways. Sophie’s problem is external, as she openly expresses that she didn’t think she’s attractive even when other people disagree with that statement. Howl’s confidence problem is internal, as he looks really fine on the outside, but that appearance on the outside is what he hopes he will be while internally, he always views himself as a failure and not measuring up to expectations. The ring Howl gives Sophie leads directly to Calcifer, and since Calcifer has Howl’s heart, by giving Sophie the ring, Howl also guides Sophie straight to his heart, rings are often used as a symbol of commitment, and I think this ring serves a similar purpose as it’s basically Howl saying that Sophie will be the one that he willingly let into his heart and his life. Also, when you look at Sophie and Howl, you will find out that the story is also about adulting, Sophie and Howl differs on this topic, Sophie wants to skip adulting process entirely and straight into old age, as there is not much to gain and not much to lose at that point in life, whereas Howl is permanently stuck in adolescence stage where people’s approval is everything to him, and if he didn’t meet the expectations, his world would fall apart. But it’s precisely because Howl holds on to his childhood and early years that he is able to create the flower garden for Sophie.

    ooo ive been waiting for more Ghibli films! :D To be honest on this one I personally prefer the book, but the movie has a unique charm that understandably draws people in. The music and scenery are beautiful! Can't wait to see your guy's reactions. Hope you all enjoy it~

    Once you read the book you can sparse out so much more in the movie. Like the black door leading to what would have been Wales and why Sophie is constantly changing from old to young. Even who Turnip Head and Heen are.

    yeah you really have to look at the two of them totally separate. I love both for their own reasons, because gosh, this movie is just so dreamy!

    The present day howl has always been waiting for sophie. Thats why he said there you are/here you are when he saw her in the alley with those soldiers. Bc present day sophie told childhood howl to wait for her.

    hi 👋🏻i’ve seen you guys rubbing your necks and cheeks more and more since i’ve been watching you guys for a while now :( i’ve had very similar issues from sitting similarly and i can imagine that putting out content means lots of chair time, so i wanted to offer some solutions that have helped me: i think bringing in extra comfy supportive chairs/gaming chairs, plus some small basic back/shoulder stretches to push more blood through the muscles would help. if you really want to go crazy i like putting magnesium lotion on stiff spots at night. i feel slightly shy giving this advice randomly but if you take any of it i hope it helps. i am 24 and after graduating art school i really had messed up my neck from just ignoring it or not knowing how to support feeling uncomfortable and i know there’s not a lot you can do on camera, but i think doing these things would make it easier or at least take longer to become uncomfortable. you guys are my favorite channel! please keep doing studio ghibli! can’t go wrong with any of them tbh.

    Love all the ghibli movies. My favorite amongst all is The Secret World of Arriety, mainly because I always imagined how I would live if I'm little when I was a child and the world looks bigger literally The repeatability is good too, it's my comfort movie. I also love Ponyo then Totoro. 💕

    I LOVE this movie! It's my FAVOURITE Ghibli movie and I've also read all the books! The whole trilogy is amazing (Howl's Moving Castle, Castle in the Air, and House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones in case anyone is wondering)!!!!
