@lullabysorrow5746

Wish he was the villian instead, i'd take Sophie vs a evil wizard over the romance (even though it was cute). Maybe she learns how to use magic from the witch that cursed her or something. And the scarecrow could be Howl's spy. And Howl just wants the war to keep going and going and going. And it ends with him dying, and Sophie now owning the Castle, making sure it never falls into the wrong hands again.

This is the song you hear when you pass away. And see a thin man in a suit. You know nothing of him. But in a trance you are pull towards him. You start to waltz together as you see he is a skeleton. As death waltz with you. Showing you flashes of your life. Both happy and sad you forgotten. To know your life as it fades away. Dancing into the nothingness he controls. Given final rest. And peace as he twirls you one last time and let’s go. Returning your soul to the void

This song captured the darkness that both Calcifer and Howl shares, Calcifer loses his freedom but gains a heart but is bound to serve, Howl becomes heartless (in the emotional sense as well) but gains more freedom.

In the end really hes just selfish and a coward, not heartless, because it's more like him and Calcifer share the heart, not that he lost it. He fell in love with Sophie "without" it anyways, he just played up the rumors and infamy to worsen his reputation. And in the movie the girls he goes through are in search of Sophie. In the book hes more of a player.
@angeladia2091

the most interesting thing is that the original score actually has quite a bit of a bittersweet and nostalgic feeling to it yet somehow still merry at the same time, almost like two sides to a coin, but balancing right on the edge of it not flipping to either side. this dark version is like if someone intervened and gave the coin a little push, making it fall face-up on the bittersweet side without the sweet.

This feels like you're dancing at the midnight hour, bathing the moonlight on your balcony
When I first heard the original theme for Howls moving castle I imagined a dance at the ball with your loved one, with fancy clothes in a magnificent mansion. But this almost feels like dancing with the corpse of your loved one in an abandoned mansion. With only candle lights to illuminate the setting.. also it feels like this song is moving at a faster pace as if your dancing alone.

For my book nerds: The villain dancing with the villainess at a ball. They’re both playing a mind game with each other while in step. Everybody is looking at them. Suddenly, the villainess mentions something to the villain that makes him panic. The tension rises between them. The dancing gets more hectic as the conversation gets more intense. Eventually, the villainess has the last word, crushing the villain. They bow to each other as the song ends. He stares at her as she walks away from him. He realizes, she is a threat and that he is in love. PS, howl’s moving castle is my comfort movie. I love this cover so much. Thank you for it!!

It sounds like someone solo dancing a waltz they previously shared with their partner who’s now gone and they’re reminiscing on the past happy memories they shared together but the thought of them being gone fills them with anger.
what i find amazing about this is how the song isn't depressive or dark, as it was inclined to be. but rather pulling and intriguing. you can't help but focus your attention on the music, its almost "seductive" if you will. its interesting how such a tone can have such an affect on someone.

Is it weird that I still hear a certain joy in it? Like, it feels almost frantic or manic at times, but it still has quite a lot of energy. I am imagining this would have been the score, if Howl had actually been the evil wizard without a heart, the general population makes him out to be.

Funfact! In the books the witch of the waste plays a more sinister role, she goes around Ingary stealing body parts from male wizards so she can sew them into one whole body and she will make that corpse-puppet-wizard-body-thingy into the king so she can become the Queen, throughout the book she is actually chasing howl so she can get his head and use it for her corpse-puppet

Ah. A version that fits the book.
This reminds me of a normal, quiet life where everything is perfect and normal for you. Everything and everyone in your life is happy. But, something starts changing. You start feeling like everything around you is fading away as you try grasping onto it, afraid to let go. You slowly go down a rabbit hole of dark emotions as you try pleasing yourself and others while you feel like you’re loosing everything. You defend into madness, deeper and deeper, they notice but dont care, you cant get out the hole and you start fighting for recognition, happiness, the life you had before. Until, finally, you met your fate. A sad ending, leaving you alone.

I’m currently learning the original version, but this is absolutely going to be the next song I learn to play. It’s utterly gorgeous and I would love to be able to play either version depending on the mood I’m in.
this song is like. an alternate ending. where howl ends up becoming corrupted by his magic. and all sophie can do is watch as her love fades away into darkness, becomes controlling and cold, and as calcifer's warmth begins to dim. and sophie is trapped in what was once a bright and lovely castle, in a perpetual, dark waltz with the man that was once her love, but she can't leave out of some illogical hope for howl. idk
