I'm not inclined to urinate on anybody, but I agree that Dweezil deserves tons of credit for his musicianship and what he's doing with his father's music. His surname is Zappa, so why can't he use the name "Zappa Plays Zappa"?

Gail was, and still is, getting her revenge on Frank for his groupie affairs. She couldn't poison the minds of the oldest two children (Moon and Dweezil), but she got to the younger Zappas, and hence gave them the power of the Zappa Family Trust. That's what this is all really about. Shame on Gail, Ahmet, and Diva!

I dunno her reasoning, but she is definitely to blame for this mess. Go see Dweezil live, he is worth every penny. Don't support the ZFT until Dweezil and Moon are equal share holders. I don't understand the business side of Ahemt and Diva's decision not to make the equal partners. Whats the harm in giving up 5% to Dweezil and 5% to Moon to make it all equal, and get Dweezil and the fans back on your side. Right now, the fans are pissed and Dweezil is not contributing to the ZFT (rightfully so). I could see Ahemt and Diva fucking up the ZFT until Dweezil is able to buy them out eventually, the sooner the better.

@@derekbrazier3155 I think you are wrong here, as i understand that Dweezil *is* contributing to ZFT according to a contract he was forced to sign by Gail all of his touring merchandise income is going directly to ZFT. Uptill this battle started Dweezil did not get his share of touring income paid by ZFT. So while he's on the road already for over 10 years all 'merchandise money' from the tours went straight to ZFT (as per contract) and Dweezil did not get his share paid (as per the same contract) for over 10 years, most probably because ZFT(Gail) spend most of these funds on lawyers and lawsuits in order to 'protect' ZFT's intrests.... i.e. trying to generate income without really having to work for it.. ;) and as we know most of these cases were lost by ZFT.

The Dweez is the only Zappa that's doing what his old man would have loved, playing his guitar like a demon! Dweezil is my second favourite Zappa!

Dweezil is thee only musician that can perform Franks music correctly with the passion and dedication and bring it to life again live. He still makes it all happen despite the unnecessary B.S. he has to put up with through it all and remains a very cool person to his friends and fans. The two siblings should be paying Dweezil.

Dweezil has done a fantastic job of keeping the music alive. As he says, "It's all about the music." I go see him every time he tours the UK and am always ecstatic about the quality of musicianship and how faithful Dweezil is to Frank's original intentions.

Ahmet and Diva are wrong. Shame on them.

Scott Mills yeah, it's pretty fucked. Moon and Dweezil worked closer to Frank when he was alive to. Maybe that's the problem for Gail, Ahmet and Diva. Moon and Dweezil make certain royalties off of certain albums.

''Zappa Plays Zappa'' is the greatest show I've ever been to ! ...with Mr. Bungle and Radiohead...

Gail gave Ahmet and Diva 30% a piece and Dweezil and Moon Unit 20% a piece so Ahmet And Diva have controlling interest and Ahmet was appointed Executor by Gail. Zappa told Gail on his death bed to sell everything and get out of this horrible business. She didn’t listen and she got litigation happy which has exhausted the trust/Estate. Even Ahmet admits that it’s barely scraping by. These things happen a lot when one spouse dies and then the family dynamics change. The estate took away guitars from Dweezil that Frank had personally gifted to Dweezil. That’s fucking heartless and disrespectful to Frank’s memory. Gail should have made it 25% for each child and stipulated that that expensive house be sold ASAP and split equally amongst the four. Things that were already in a child’s possession like the “Baby Snakes 🐍 “ Guitar should have stayed that way.

It's come down to Ahmet & Diva wanting to stop Dweezil from playing their father's music ANYWHERE ON PLANET EARTH & to drop his last name altogether, as in the cease & desist order. Imagine someone trying to take away your own last name. And IMHO there's nobody better suited to play Frank's music than Dweezil. In the meantime, I've seen yoga pants with Frank's face on them, the Sheik Yer Booty album cover. Last time I saw Dweezil he mentioned those pants & that also, Diva & Ahmet are trying to put Frank's name on some weed. FRANK WOULD BE PISSED! If anyone knew Frank, they'd know how he felt about yoga pants & the people that wear them, and Frank was extremely anti-drug. It's ugly.

They probably want there cut of the merch but Dweezil is doing all the work so they don't deserve any. He's the only one doing anything to keep his fathers music out there & it's always been like that.

I saw that show in Portland Ore. and I gotta tell you The band Dweezil put together for that show was amazing and if you closed your eyes you went back to a time when you were growing up. Frank Zappa would be fucking proud and honored by it. Napoleon Brock sang each song as Frank did. Sheila Gonzales, Pete Griffin on Bass was a quiet Giant, Steve Vai, Joe Travers drums, and Terry Bozzio sits in for the Black Page. Best bunch of musicians possible to play this music.I bought the Live DVD and love it.

It sounds as though Ahmet doesn't mind the money just doesn't want to work for it.

Ahmet and Diva got 30% each and Moon and Dweezil got 20%. Gail had a serious Medea complex and blew 20 million trying to sue everyone on the planet.

Ironically, people in the US don't worship the family Zappa the way your people worship everything FZ. Even Frank was a minor celebrity over here. More ironically, the Zappa's were notoriously good at letting the public see only what they wanted the public to see of their lives, which is why the public are only hearing about all of this upon Gail's death though many people, my wife included, knew what was going on long before it hit the papers. What Gail Zappa's will has done in terms of name recognition and natural birthright could effect many families that work in entertainment, which is why it's even a story. So, you've made yourself look like a hypocrite and an idiot. What else have you got?

Saw Dweezil at Zappa Plays Zappa twice. Was fantastic both times. I love Dweezil's playing. He's a genius like his father.

Well Frank use to say that is wasn´t their first name (Dweezil, Moon, Ahmet and Diva by the way) that would give them trouble, rather their last name

I have seen Zappa plays Zappa and i must say it was an incredible experience.Frank would be so proud of him, but don't think the fighting between the family would impress him.

I have driven all over the north eastern part of North America to see ZPZ play. From Toronto to Kalamazoo, New Haven, Syracuse etc, it is always worth the drive to see them.

I saw Dweezil perform in Tucson on May 5th. The show was awesome. The guy is incredibly talented, and he was absolutely pleasant to everyone, at the sound check and performance. As I watched the performance, I could not help but think how Frank would be tremendously proud of his son. I know I would be. Here is my take on the family matter. He got the brains, talent, and the decency. As long as he can play what ever the f@#k he wants, he will always be better off than the others. I wish him well both in family matters and in life.

Sooner or later, Ahmet and Diva have to realize that their mother made a huge mistake. Dweezil is the only person capable of really contributing anything to the ZFT. If they have to make him ans Moon equal partners to get him involved in building up the ZFT, they should do it. Not only is it the right thing to do by their father, their brother and the fans, it is the only thing that makes any financial sense. Ahmet and Diva are not capable of contributing to the ZFT or of bringing any new fans Frank's music. I wonder how long it will be before Dweezil can buy them both out.

Women heartbreak and music

Dweezil, Moon, Ahmet and the other one should realize that when age creeps up on them, the will wish they had each other, and when health fails, money does nothing, and can do nothing. Question, if Dweezil played only his OWN music, would he be able to say who he was? Would we know who Ahmet was if Frank was never part of the picture, or was a postman or Office manager? I guess this is true for all Zappa members, but it is Dweezil who is continuing the FZ legacy by playing Zappa stuff live. That does a lot to keep the man in our memories. Bottom line? Knock it off and quit the selfishness before it is too late. And it will be.

The Family needs to realize Frank Zappa's music will be forgotten, and their trust will evaporate into pennies, without KZread and Dweezil's efforts to expose the catalog of Zappa music to a new audience. I became a fan after Frank passed ("He went on, you know"). I've spent plenty of money on Zappa music, after being a consumer of jazz for 20 years. And I continue to explore Frank's music via KZread. That brings me to Dweezil. I've been to two shows, both in Seattle. I think that boy could have made it in Frank's band, think he would qualify as a "Mother F****r" on guitar. In the last show, he opened for Chick Corea who played with ZPZ on King Kong. What a treat! While the house was packed and tickets weren't cheap, I doubt Dweezil is getting rich off this. It's more likely that his talentless siblings are making money off of Dweezil's efforts to honor his father. Frank's brilliance spanned many areas, including his business acumen. Too bad that gene seems to be absent in some of his children.

I love Dweezil, but I have met Dweezil, I never met Ahmet so I dont know how to respond except like a father who loves their children would. If my kids were suing one another I would be livid. Frank Zappa, he's more than a concept.

The whole situation is so fucking sad! I just wish dweezil could still play under the ZPZ name and honor their fathers legacy without having to pay to use his own name. I saw Zappa plays Zappa on their first Australian tour and it blew my mind how well he did at portraying his fathers songs.

Good Lord, everyone's heard of Dweezil and Moon, not many people ever heard of the other two, why cause they apparently have never done anything. I don't know much about any of this, but its just wrong that stuff wasn't divided up evenly, and Dweezil should be able to play his fathers music and use his name. Yeah, may be some of the money should go to then other kids or the estate, as it is Frank's music, but come on.

It's SUPER complicated the things Gail put in order before her death y not only choosing sides with her 4 kids to including exorbitant fees including $100,000.00- per song per performance and now Dweezil is being sued using his own last name professionally. He never got any money for merchadise that was sold under ZPZ and is being sued. As member's of the ZFT they feel they are entitled to money from all of Dweezil's hard work and touring. They intend to trademark their own name and even Frank's mustache. Gail spent millions fighting lawsuits suing people all over the world over the playing of Frank's music and mostly lost every case including one against Germany who has a Zappa festival every year.. Moon described her own mother as a jaded, greedy, bi-polar,narcissist. It's a fucking shame because Frank's music needs to be heard and performed forever. Yes make money off of it, of course, but not like this with Ahmet and Diva running the ship who do nothing musical. This is wrong.

Saw Project/Object in 2000 at the TLA in Philly. They did a decent job of Frank's material including the entirety of One Size Fits All. Also met Napoleon Murphy Brock & Ike Willis on South St. before the show- what a great night.

Ahmet Dweezle- just sit listen to some of your dad's tunes, watch some family movies and make up already. Now that Gail has passed as well, do it for your parents memory- respect each other and yes, Dweezil should be able to use the Zappa name for his performances. He's the one that plays Frank's music so well and is closest to being the one who inherited Frank's talent. All of you Zappa adults were well raised by a great man, father, musician etc.. Life is short, don't fuck it up for each other.

I went to the last 5 Zappa Concerts and Frank is My Friend.

Although there has been a post saying that the Zappa siblings reconciled, there has been no word of what the reconciliation encompasses.

Everyone here is super astute & reflect my feelings exactly, As Frank once said in an interview "people should just call him Ahmet Dick cause..." Dwezil is the only Zappa left, musically speaking Franks 2nd great legacy.

Frank was a huge influence on my music career that I even named my stage name after him.

Respectfully, it's very real and happening as I type this. It's been widely documented. Dweezil just ran a Pledge Music campaign to pay for his legal challenge. You can find the details on his website (with the link to the Pledge Music page).

major labels would be more reasonable, and that is so fucking sad, frank spent most of the money he made to retain rights to his own fucking music for this to happen. if dweezle was just trying to make a quick buck thats one thing, but learning franks guitar parts is a life long journey and he does an amazing job of keeping it alive

I think Howard would comment on this because he is being paid $100mil a year to comment on whatever he wants to talk about. Sometimes he is right sometimes he is wrong. I think if he was educated on the subject he would be criticizing Ahmet too.

Agreed completely. This meandering, ill-informed crap shouldn't be aired anywhere. It's not that I agree or disagree with Howard Stern and his crew--I am offended by his lack of preparation, given that he has a STAFF who do this work in advance of the program. If you don't know about a topic--and your other hosts know even less--wait until you've brought everyone up to speed. You wouldn't hear kind of unprofessional rambling passed off as broadcasting on any station with a better reputation. Bleh.

Ahmet and Dweezil used to be friends, and I have seen Zappa plays Zappa, and he does a really good job. He does do Frank justice, I think he should write his own stuff though. I think Frank would prefer he wrote his own stuff, but he would still approve of Dweezil's take on his music.

You know, I wonder if maybe Gail did things the way she did because of resentment about the song "My Mother is a Space Cadet", which Dweezil and Moon recorded when they were young people. I certainly wish things had turned out differently. I'm a lot less prone to spending money on merchandise the way things are now.

Its sad to see the Zappa kids at each others throats and I agree with Howard I bet Franks spinning in his grave. I hate to say it but even though Franks wife Gail I do believe played a role as to why the kids are fighting after her death, its his untimely death almost 25 years ago that I blame for the infighting which of course isn't Franks fault. If you get cancer and die you just pass away. With that being said I will say this, Dweezil and Moon are their fathers children! They were by his side in the studio, on the road, doing TV interviews, when he went to Washington to take on the PMRC during that senate hearing and Frank was by their side when Dweezil got into music and when Moon went on to seek out her own endeavors. Frank clearly had a closer bond with his first two children mainly because he was there to help lead and guide them into adulthood. Sadly, Ahmet and Diva didn't get that experience with Frank so they were obviously their mother's children "Gail's". I'm not saying that Frank didn't have a healthy fatherly relationship with the younger two, just Dweezil and Moon were adults when Frank passed Ahmet was still a teen and Diva even younger. So do I think Gail had a favoritism towards the younger two yes. Does that explain why they have this entitlement that if Dweezil uses the Zappa name they have a need to profit off his hard work keeping the Zappa name alive yes! Let's face it Dweezil is the only Zappa child that did something with his life! Moon holds her own not really successful but she does go on radio or a podcast once in awhile at the appropriate time given the topic. Ahmet's a fucking loser! I remember as far back as the 90's Ahmet going on MTV acting like a lightweight Johnny Knoxville doing jackass shit making a complete fool of himself like, "I'm Frank Zappa's son don't you like me"! Ahmet had some insecurity issues when he was younger. I have to LMAO, Ahmet has a problem with Dweezil using the Zappa name when Dweezil did the Zappa plays Zappa tour. Ahmet doesn't mind jumping on stage and singing the vocals when Dweezil is doing a killer ass cover of a Van Halen song live in concert! Also when Dweezil won a Grammy for his cover of Franks Peaches En Regalia, the whole entire family was there in tears crying as he gave his acceptance speech. Now when it comes to Diva I don't know much about her, other than she flies low key and she designs lingerie under her own company and I've seen a few pics of her on the web. Obviously she's not slinging thongs like Victoria Secrets if she's a money grubber trying to screw over her own siblings! Look I think the kids need to sit down and get their shit together. The elder kids need to be kind and the younger two need to stop being so hung up on money if they want to keep Frank Zappa's legacy alive!

Mike Keneally gave a perfect definition: playing with Dweezil and Ahmet was like playing with Frank split in two. IMHO, Z shows with Dweezil AND Ahmet were much funnier than Zappa Plays Zappa concerts (even though these were musically and emotionally fantastic!) Ahmet was not (is not) a musician, but he surely was an entertainer!

Search KZread for "Howard Stern - Howard vs. Fred over Frank Zappa's music" . Howard must be taking an interest in this just as a feud like any other famous families. It certainly cannot be because he liked Frank Zappa's music as he certainly did not.

I’d like Dweezil to just turn down the volume a little. The last ZPZ show I saw gave me a 3 day case of tinnitus.

Saw ZPZ twice. The first time it was just Dweez and the band and it was perfect.. Second time was Progressive Nation tour with a bunch of bands and Dream Theater headlining. I still kick myself for not bringing ear plugs. It was stupid loud.

@@funkster007 It IS worth noting that the venue may be partly to blame. Theaters that were originally designed for orchestras, and even smaller theaters designed for chamber music...commonly found at conservatories...generally have bright hard surfaces that foster longer reverberation times that can really work against amplified music. I have also been to clubs where most surfaces are concrete and the results can really hurt your ears. Have been to blues clubs in Chicago in a wood frame building, relatively low plaster ceiling and a room full of “squishy” people and the sounds near perfect. Sorry... I could talk for hours...LOL.

@@165Dash It didn't help much being only a few rows away from the mains. That was a given. But the fact the sound guy was turning it up an extra 10 decibels per band was ridiculous.

Zappa didn't particularly care for Moon or Dweezil according to Moon's numerous interviews on the subject. Even as she took Dad to his cancer treatments.

Ahmet said Dweezil has to pay a license fee to play Frank's mother. But Ahmet said it was $1.00. He doesn't know what Dweezil's problem is. The house and The Utility Research Muffin Kitchen was sold to Lady Gaga.

YES, Frank would absolutely hate this bullshit. Everyone should have 25% of what is left of the estate and all 4 of them should have a 25% control of the Zappa Family Trust. I think Gail was jealous of Dweezil somehow. Sounds bizarre, but that's what I think.

Dweezil makes a good living touring and playing Franks music... Giving the old and new fans of FZ a great musical experiance and keeping Franks music alive. And Ahmet and Diva are pissed off because they haven´t got the tallent. So the greedy fuckheads Diva and Ahmet make Dweezil pay for the hard work he does to bring Franks music to the public .. Shame on U ! Why can´t Diva and Ahmet do their own "Zappa plays Zappa" show and tour the world ? "Ahmet & Diva Butchers Zappa" might be a good name for that concert. Kudos to Dweezil and his band and all the ones from Franks former bands that makes a great musical experiance. Pls come back to Sweden next year :)

Frank and Howard were buds. Would love to see him get this ugly sordid incident straightened out. With Ahmet's attitude wish Howard the best of luck. All about jealousy, Dweezil inherited the musical gene and Ahmet's upset because Dweezil is the one who gets all the attention .

Dweezil plays what the f#%¤k he wants, presents an awesome show (saw them in Oslo Oct -17) and it is sooo petty from Ahmet/Diva denying Dweezil the right to use his own family name. Music is more important than money! Frank Zappa said: “Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is THE BEST.”

I wonder why they let it come to this..hmm...what could possibly be the the reason ? Inquiring minds want to know.
