I think stern used the suicide as a reason to fire him, but Artie said somewhere in an interview years later that went unnoticed, he said the moment he sealed his fate was the bro fight when he called Howard an odd pelican lol. But Howard didn’t want people to know that was the reason so he kinda started being passive aggressive to Artie from that moment and eventually that’s what led Artie to the paranoia and depression. I 100% that given how vain Howard is, that comment hurt more than anything deeper that could’ve been said… looks and status are everything to Howard lol

The show ran/runs through Howard. He's the star, he'd mentioned it every chance he had. So, of course the "odd pelican," and the poll, pissed off Howard. The show continues no matter who's around him, it's when Howard leaves, it falls apart

This guy earned his money. After TFTF you could see Artie was less involved in the writing of the next two books or maybe not at all. There was none of Artie’s tone or humour. Didn’t sound like him at all. And I some of the described events didn’t jibe with what actually happened
