Howard Sherman‘s solo show „Self-portrait as Kong“ is his first solo show in Berlin. On view are larger paintings and paperworks alongside with a series of smaller paperworks. Sherman‘s cartoonish figuration complements his bold use of abstract mark making, embedding into the work what could be read as portraits, punch lines or poems. The frenetic and muscular heft of his work is balanced with a measured precision and a thoughtful integration of a number of art historical styles. The artist is based in Houston and New York, his work is in several museum collections and permanently on display at Bush International Airport in Houston.
