How Your Unconscious Mind Rules Your Behaviour: Leonard Mlodinow at TEDxReset 2013

Ғылым және технология

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

    +mark lorden there are multiple cameras and one is placed to shoot the stage, one is placed to shoot the audience etc. etc. Director or editor is responsible for choosing which shot will be shown at specific timing. Therefore a Director or an editor is to blame.

    Watching it, it seems pretty clear that it's intentionally edited to prevent you from following along in the way that the audience could, though I can't think of any reason why they would have wanted to do that.

    I have noticed that a majority of the comments regarding this demonstration is nothing but empty rhetoric. I using my "conscious" mind and the truth of the matter is that almost every person repeated the obvious observation about the camera "man" and how he was a little bit "off". Can anyone tell me a different perception?

  • @irical100

    @irical100

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Alicia Smith I’ll give it my take, A/V mishaps not withstanding: The demonstration in regard to social perceptions and constructs shows how racism and the stereotypes which build from it started from a false and fear-based perception of African people and culture which became institutional from the first Africans brought here in slavery. Since that time, since multi-faceted justice has never been worked out for those who have all along been victimized, the trigger in the minds of white folks by and large who know this when seeing a black person’s face (I’m not talking about Barrack Obama) is one of two automated responses: Guilt or denial & loathing, both are fear factors. Both are equally counter to the progress of racial justice. The illusion-suggestion of racial preference/heirarchy is subtley (and grossly) re-enforced in perpetuity by the power of media and therefore it is a subliminal anchor which becomes practically universal in “popular opinion”. and drives the dehabilitating factors which most black folks have aways faced in this country As the demonstration showed, extremely hard to overcome illusions in individuals and we might as well put it in the context of illusions as contagions in whole societies to better understand how and why we as a society function the way we do. Stagnatingly poorly.

    Just because we all are biased/ form how things are in our heads doesn't mean it's not real. Just like yesterday I was talking to some broad online, I said they were being pessimistic they said 'No I'm just being realistic' & replied that everyone is realistic in their own head according to them (which of course flew right over their head, but it's true we never know exactly how flawed our perceptions/beliefs are, even if we try to be as unbiased/ matter of fact/ rational as possible) But all part of the fun & journey of a brief existence I suppose

    I participated in neuro feedback experiments for psychology grad students when I studied at university in 1977. I am disappointed to see that research on the brain snd mind has not made the same progress over time as the medical field. There is and has been societal imbalance in investing in research and treatment for mental and physical illnesses.

    Was the camera editor a non-English speaker who normally edits game shows, specifically 'The Price is Right'? Can not think of any other reason for camera editing heavy on audience panning which missed the points being made by the talk. Tedx participant John/Jane Doe, come on down!

    How is the question regards the pricing even relevant to the background checkers thing? 5500 vs 55 dollars is just such a huge gap, the audience must have based this on actual hotel usage where they have seen a 1200 and 300 average price irrespective of what the background price was. You cant't manipulate economics like that. It's like saying lead can become gold if you put enough gold dust in it because it happened before, and someone said that. Silliest TedTalk, he surely doesn't deserve to argue quoting Jung.

    It's an anchoring bias. Very real, and used often - from retail to investing.
