    This 11 year old video has a lot of useful information, very clearly explained! Thanks so much! I just replaced my 30 year old top loader. Even though my new machine is not the same brand and has some different features, this video answered so many questions about how this thing is operating. It even reassured me about sounds it makes.

    This video is just what I was looking for. My husband and I just moved into an apartment with this type of washer. We were unsettled by many of the sounds it made as it washed our first load of clothes. We’re both totally blind so we couldn’t see the lights indicating which part of the cycle was going on. I love this video because it explains each stage of a cycle and each sound the unit makes. Thanks!

    I once bought a Whirlpool washer. During the third visit by the repairman in a span of 14 months, he told me that all these new HE washers were junk, and he gave me two options. He suggested I buy the extended warranty to help defer the cost of his future visits, or I could spend a little more and purchase a Speed Queen. I chose the Speed Queen and have not seen that man in years.

    yeah just called appliance dealer and a speed queen costs $999 w/a 25 year warranty , I won't live another 25 years.... where as a GE 4,2 w/agitater costing $599 with delivery/hookup & removal of old washer, but has only a 1 year warranty, it's only me and I do 3 loads of laundry about every 2 weeks. My whirlpool duet front loader has last 10 yrs, but I think the bearings are going out. When Mom passed away, I wished I'd bought her old washer, we sold for $50 in an estate sale, it was still going strong after 20 years of use.

    These new washers are terrible. This low water usage is ridiculous. You need more water and a more serious agitator. The new washers do not clean the clothes. Leave residuals in with even up to four rinse cycles. So are we conserving water? No are we conserving energy? No. You need more water and a more serious agitator like the washing machines of 40 years ago. Repeat they do not get clothes clean.

    In the pursuit of saving water above all else, the EPA has imposed these standards on the newer consumer level laundry equipment. These newer machines in reality save nothing in environmental impact because of lack of reliability. Control boards failing is the number one reason these newer machines are thrown away before their time. Energy usage is higher overall because of longer run times to achieve the level of clean people expect as well. If you have one of these machines, make sure you plug it into a good surge protector to protect your investment.

    My parents bought a Kenmore in about 2010 that was this new belt drive style. After 2.5 years they had to spend over $300 including the service call to replace the mother board which lasted for about a year before dying again. This machine was at their summer home so was only used 6 months a year by two retired people. When it died the second time they loaded it up and took it to the dump then went to Home Depot and bought a Hotpoint with an electromechanical timer and no computer to die. My mother loves it, she hated the Kenmore almost from day one. Personally I'll stick with my 1978 Maytag .

    Notice she said the fabric softener switch to be on for the proper amount of rinse water… the way it actually works is with it off, it does this thing called spray rinses, where it dumps water on the clothes which barley hits the clothes and mostly the bottom of the tub, that is not rinsing the clothes… with the fabric softener switch on, it actually fills up and rinses the clothes… so all you people who do not use fabric softener, turn that switch to on/yes so the washer can actually fill up and agitate for the rinse cycle…

    I know this video is old but my household also has a Whirlpool HE top-load washing machine. Unlike this one, however, mine uses an impeller instead of an agitator. In addition, mine has a built-in detergent dispensing tray which the user pours the detergent into before starting the load. The advantage to the detergent dispensing tray when compared to the machine in this video is that inexperienced users don't have to worry about ruining their clothes by not adding detergent properly since the detergent dispenser on those kinds of machines are clearly marked. Also, because the clothes and detergent are loaded in separate sections of the machine before starting the cycle, loading my washer in general is a less messy process. Many HE impeller top load washing machines and HE front load washing machines of all brands come with build in detergent dispensing trays to add detergent to as far as I remember so I could never really understand why companies would design their high efficiency machines without the detergent tray as in this video. Clearly, Whirlpool's high-efficiency top load washers have improved since this video was first posted on KZread. That's only from my experience with the better technology though as I still had a traditional water-guzzling agitator washer (that was the previous washer that I had before my current one btw) back then and by the time my traditional agitator washer did stop working and I had to replace it, Whirlpool's improved versions were pretty much already out there for the most part. I can't speak on behalf of other people's experience.

    @@pressure1682 Happy for you, however that isn't the typical story I get from most folks I've talked to that have had HE washers. Aunt's, Cousin's that have them all say they don't get their clothes clean, they stink, don't use enough water, take forever to wash a load. You may be saving a little water, but if the machine has to run for over an hour to do a load of laundry vs my old washer that can do the same load AND get it clean in less than half an hour how is that new one using more electricity by running so much longer "high efficiency"? Last I checked where I live water is a lot cheaper than electricity. I'll go ahead and stick with my original plan.

    Hi cellrad, this option is for heavily soiled loads that need improved stain treatment. When Deep Clean is selected, the water temperature of the selected wash cycle is automatically set to warm. The water will then be slowly heated to the temperature selected, to aid in stain removal. Sincerely, Jennifer

    Lol so apparently I've loading my washer wrong. I always select my cycle settings and press start. The thing supposedly senses and begins filling with water while I'm putting my clothes in. Like another user has said, I don't have time for the machine to fiddle fart around. Just wash my damn clothes already!

    @antonbelzer5847 Жыл бұрын

    Another benefit about the detergent dispenser is that when water enters it, it dilutes the detergent before adding it to the clothes while the basket rotates to cover all the clothes, which coats the clothes more evenly than just adding it directly to the tub without diluting it first as with an old fashioned agitator washer. Again, that's just my experience and I can't speak for everyone else.

    So here again, you can see or learn of decreased quality with their machines. After spin cycle the tub takes up to two minutes to stop spinning. (Frown) Say What? Their older washers stopped spinning almost immediately cause they had brakes. Also they got rid of direct drive cause it's more expensive to produce and too reliable. I recommend that anyone in the market for a new washer, do thorough research, cause things have changed dramatically across the board.

I hate GE. exept for whirlpool, they're the only american appliance company left. I'd hate to see GE be the only one left. I bought my mom a Whirlpool solid state washer. She had it for 15 years and only needed a drive coupler replaced. My aunt's Profile? Motor, clutch and pump motor in 10 years.

    To save water and energy. My old washer washed my clothes in 25 minutes. These new ones take over an hour. So they're telling the longer the machine runs, the more energy saved. All this start/stop to sense balance, water level and rotation of the earth all take energy. In the amount of time it does all of this, my old washer would already be washing my clothes. Also, they're saving our water. From what? There's the same amount of water on earth now as there was when I was using my old water hog machine. In fact, there's the same amount of water on earth now as there was 2000 years ago.

It does absolutely nothing! i hear the lid lock and 'fill' light is lit and it just sits there. after fiddling for a couple hours, it finally started filling with water. the different lights lit up showing that it was supposed to be washing, however it did not agitate or spin, the water just eventually drained out!

    The direct drive machines lasts 30 years or better. Why would you want to change that? Consumers are having nothing but trouble with the new design. Defective lid locks, Control boards and tub bearings and suspension rods. That is why people are buying top-loading Speed Queen washers. Transmissions with metal gears, not plastic, no electronics and a four vane agitator.

    Yes, Colored Detergent does the same thing . We have a centennial which is a newer model without an agitator. For a normal load it fills up with about four inches of water not enough to submerge or suspend the cloths. So any stains on them or detergent is not gonna get removed because they will not be circulated. Only the stuff that's in the water gets cleaned.
