HOW will all THIS GET DONE? (Alaskan, Off-Grid Wedding)

This week we moved the old garden shed from a few hundred feet away and set it down next to the shop we are working on. Tanya plans to breath new life into the structure, converting it into a small kitchen for the reception.
We also spent many hours working on the shop itself, installing insulation, vapor barrier and plywood sheeting on the interior walls. Things are starting to come together!
We still have so far to go and very little time left to get there. Nevertheless, one way or another, this wedding will take place.
See you all next week.
Peace

Our disabled son Eric found your channel last week and we have been binge-watching together ever since. Starting with your on-grid cabin project he found it very refreshing to watch someone working with great enthusiasm and quality of effort! Then your grandson came on and the love you showed in teaching how to do things and use all the tools was very heartwarming. Now having Tanya along for this project is great for me and my wife Trudi of 2 weeks short of 45 years(July 30). You work so well together, and for filming, too, and then there's Stella! We kind of understand your area and lifestyle as I have a cousin and her husband who left our native Nebraska for Fairbanks some 25years ago. He spends a lot of time out in the cold as a power company lineman. As for the cold temps and tons of snow, we'll take the one-teens of Phoenix any day ( why we left -20F Nebraska one January 37+ years ago. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures, friendship, love and building expertise! Ric Grassmick

Good evening Ric, and a big hello to Eric! We are honored to hear from you. I was actually born in Humbolt, Nebraska, although my dad moved us to Alaska when I was so young I don't have any memories of the place at all. Thank you for your love of our channel. We enjoy the community here tremendously and do our best to respond to the wonderful comments (although it is difficult during the midst of a short, busy summer). Let me know if you have any questions for us and we will do our best to answer. Talk to you soon. Peace

Well, Gale adds his pragmatic brilliance and just gets on with any task. I can see your son following in your footsteps though - he also looks like a down to earth practical guy. What can we say about Tanya - firm in her own preferences and incredibly helpful despite her nail gun phobia! The food prep idea is just great and another moving experience ensues! At least this time it's a shed and not a house! I expect the whole family will just get on with the cleaning, decorating and providing for the wedding and Tanya will really come into her own - what a mum and mother in law. The forethought that makes sure there is a minimum double work for everybody. Cameo of the week: Gail: I could live in here. Tanya: You're very welcome! Love the interaction as always.

Oh wow after seeing how the inside of the work shop looks just after getting the sheeting on the walls, I am now so eager to see the rebuild completed. You are going to have a fantastic shop for all of your winter projects, or summer as far as that goes. I remember when you and Drox went to visit the property the very first time and you tore up some of the flooring. You knew it would be work, but you saw beyond that. Love seeing it get a new breath of life to stand for another few Generations of Family to enjoy. Thank you as always for the video, can't wait for the next. Oh I almost forgot, You had asked me a couple of videos back if my Daughter still lives in North Pole. Yes she does, however right now she is in Cordova, AK working on a Salmon Fishing boat lol. All 4'10" and 120 lbs of her. She is small, but tough and very adventurous.

We don’t expect the road to be open in the next month or so. Talk to you soon my friend

Maybe those upside down gutters on the shed were for diverting rain from going in the hinged crack ?

Thank you so very much for your reply! I LOVE the poodle breed… one of the smartest of the dog breeds, and affectionate, so trainable, attentive, graceful,, and often humorous..the best of canine companions. I have had some too. Wherever did you find her, within Alaska? And chocolate is my favorite color of coat. Stella's coat is gorgeous, evenly thick and curly and dense. Though I am now housebound, I had the privilege of living in Alaska…Palmer and Wasilla for 15 years, and my husband was a carpenter and builder. I love learning more about carpentry as I watch you, and am quite impressed with the skill with heavy machinery. Watching you and Tanya is so engaging, and you two are so very personable and likable. Thank you so much for these videos. I know you are very busy, especially with the August wedding, so please do not feel you need to reply.

Good afternoon. Stella is from a breeder in Wasilla (or Palmer). We put our order in and waited and waited for her to be born. It was just so much fun watching her through her weening stage and then delivery to us. We have loved her so much. She is just pure joy. I am so glad you are enjoying this channel. I love this community. The interaction is so great and we have made many new friends here. You are certainly one of them. Peace.

Good evening Sergio! Much love to you and your beautiful family. Yes, we are excited for the wedding. It is only a few weeks away now. There is still so much to do to prepare. Drox and I worked together this weekend and got quite a bit accomplished. His father is busy working in town and does not usually come with us to the cabin.

I'm not saying that straw hat didn't completely suit you but I'm with Stella who, I think, was convinced it was her new favourite Frisbee.

Hey, y'all. I'm so sorry I late getting to your video. My husband was in a terrible accident at work this past Thursday. He suffered burns to his left hand and right index finger. These burns are bad enough that he is in the burn ICU and will have skin grafts done this coming Monday. So, needless to say I have been quite distracted. You guys made great progress on the building this episode. Great job! I bet the shed will even look like new by the time it's completed.

Its coming along nicely. Should be a great place for the wedding. Are you going to attach the small shed to the main building or will it be a stand alone? Have great week and God Bless, Pete

Beautiful wild flowers. What is that brilliant yellow plant at the end of the video? I would love to have that in my garden......What a transformation thinking back to when you first opened the door of that building and you had to climb over all the "stuff and junk" piled high. It is really a large open space now and I love the high ceiling with exposed beams. Have you chosen the lighting fixtures yet? Thar high ceiling really calls for a long drop chandelier fixture. I am very anxious to see how Tanya decorates the little shed into her "she shed". It will be very useful and versatile I am sure............OH one more observation......THE BUGS.....I see flying bugs everywhere. Do they drive you crazy?? Are the bugs normal for spring/summer in Alaska???? Namaste Gale & Tanya

Good evening Dona. I believe that is Golden Rod. It is very beautiful. We have a long way to go with these old buildings but it is slowly taking shape. We will just have to keep at it. I too am interested to see what Tanya does with that old shed. It will be fun to see. And yes, those are mosquitos and gnats. They don't bother us too much, but maybe we are just used to them by now. Namaste!

Summer is beautiful up there. That lake is unbelievable-is swimming ever possible or too chilly? Probably a silly question but it looks so inviting! I love the garden shed transformation into prep building-it's adorable. I think that bar you built would fit nicely right along side it...Cheers!

Good afternoon. It is very beautiful here in the pass. This is a glacier-fed lake so it is always cold. I have seen some brave souls in bathing suits here this summer but I won’t be joining them. It is just too chilly in my opinion. Thanks for the encouraging words in the garden shed. So appreciated

Great video as usual. Just do not understand who is getting married. Some of your salvaged insulation (pink one) must have been “touched” by water in the past (black edges). Will this create any problem?

You two kids are terrific, thanks for sharing your journey and this adventure. The interior transformation is amazing. Gale, your chivalry was showing as you helped your bride with her life vest. It looked as if there was a blue vest for you as well or was that for Stella? What was the body of water, glacier fed lake or a river? Wishing you and your kids a blessed week, gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace

Thank you my friend. It is always a pleasure hearing from you. Oh, the blue vest was mine I believe. This is a huge, glacier-fed lake. It is several miles long and over 200 feet deep.
