How We Teach Our Baby to Read in 3 Languages ! Doman Method

We are learning more and more each year just how much babies understand, such as being born with an understanding of numbers (just like many animals are), /and many more amazing things (just google “studies about babies” for a small glimpse at how much science is discovering about the incredible abilities of little ones).
Your baby or toddler is smart, capable, and wants to learn! If you believe in them, you can develop an incredible teaching dynamic.
Glenn Doman believes that the critical window for enhancing a child’s potential is before the age of six. He emphasizes that the years from birth to 6 years of age are very crucial and that parents play a more critical role in their child’s intellectual development than formal schooling.
Babies are curious by nature and they love to learn and Domans early learning philosophy is based on fostering their nature love for learning by providing them the right environment and opportunity. Glenn Doman believes that the critical window for enhancing a child’s potential is before the age of six. Babies’ brains are so plastic (adaptable) that learning is effortless for them. The school that I used to go to used to have little books about each letter. They were very repetitive, which was perfect for being 4. I learned how to read because of them. Each book started with a story of about 4 sentences in which you had to underline the letter that this book was about, then there was a page where you had to trace the letter. The letters were very big. After writing the letter a few times you had to look at pictures with words and circle the ones that started with the letter that the book was about. Finally there was a big bold letter that you could colour, just for fun when you were done. I went through the entire a-b-c in about 3 weeks and learned to read during that time as well. I loved it so much that I still remember 20 years later :D

Thank you so much for this and all your other videos on raising multilingual kids. My question is: are you changing the words you’re using to the same words in different language on the days your teaching Benjamin Spanish or German? For example, on the days you speak to him Spanish do you replace the words on the fridge to Gracious and si? How old is Benjamin now? Do you feel these methods have been working with him? Thank you again?

The only thing I wonder about is the fact that he is so young. Not that he shouldn't be spoken to in various languages but prematurely introducing reading to him. I feel that sometimes parents want their child to be academically successful and yet don't realize that there are stages to development and to encourage their creativity may be more appropriate at this time in his life. There is the Waldorf Method of schooling and the children do not get taught reading until around the age of 9! And while that may seem too delayed, the truth is that children are exposed to words and language early on and it's the teaching part that can get in the way of the true joy of discovering language and reading. Children may be more receptive to being taught these things at 9 versus 1.5 years in age. And those kids who learn later tend to learn right away because they are more ready for it. Our intellects are personal to us. Some people are college grads and never pick up a book! Some are self-taught.

Raina Moon Astrology Although Waldorf may suggest later introduction to reading Montessori is supportive of early reading introduction. I have taught 2 of my children to read early. My daughter could read before 2 years old. My 3rd child, who is 1.5 year old, is learning to read now. I have found that they love to learn to read at this age. My friends who waited longer have experienced more frustration in the process. For my toddlers, they engaged in phonics and sight words only a few minutes a day. They always asked for more and more. To me (and Doman and Montessori) early introduction makes sense because as toddlers they are in the language explosive stage where they love to learn more about language and communication, including written language. After learning english reading, writing and speaking my children learned chinese. My 3 year old literally cannot wait until she has an opportunity to speak to someone in Chinese or read a book to someone. As long as the learning is play based and not intensive (in the same way a 9 year old would learn) then it isn’t negative. Of course, people can make the best choice for their individual child.

ainul marzuke I have a video on my channel about how I taught early reading since so many of my friends inquired about it. For learning Chinese, I placed my 3 and 5 year old in a chinese language immersion program. They really love it. My 3 year old daughter is trying to help me learn Chinese and she is so patient with me, because my accent is terrible lol.

I see your on your later videos you don't use Glenn Doman method. But teach your kids letters. Is that after you tough them some basic vocabulary? Trying to understand this nuance. It seems like Glenn Doman is good for making them recognising words, but they need to learn to read new words by themself. So I understand now you are teaching them after using Glenn Doman?

Hello Igor. Thank you for your comment. Yes, I started doing the Glenn Doman method with my first son Benjamin but it didn't really work for us overtime. He still couldn't read despite many months of practice. After some research I learnt that it is more effective and more beneficial for a child to learn to read phonetically rather than through sight reading (because with sight reading they are memorizing the words whereas with phonetical understanding they are able to read most words). A child still learns some sight words because in the English language some words cannot be read phonetically but for the most part they are well grounded in reading and spelling with this method. Thank you and all the best.

@@dorothyshelton Thanks for your response! It is very valuable information for me. We started to teach our daughter phonetically about 5 month ago, but then someone shared books by Glenn Doman, so the results described in that books was astonishing. I decided to try, However, I still had a doubt about them being able to read new words. I think I'm still going to try teaching Math by Glenn Doman. But reading would be phonetically.
