Awesome! I use two different methods to split. Right now I’m stacking 2 brood chambers and then I’ll put them apart in a month. Early season for us here! You are way ahead in the season than we are in Canada! All the best Kaylee. Thanks for beekeeping it real :)

I am doing that for a few of our colonies as well. Some just need a little more time :)

I cannot wait to perform splits this year! This is only my second year of beekeeping but all 4 of my hives overwintered super well! I’m in Upstate NY though so I’ve got a bit before I can do them!

I’m also in upstate NY. I managed to get Nine colonize through the winter. Two are very strong. Going out today to check for queen cells. Might be to early?? Congrats on getting your bees through the winter.

God bles you. Thank you for those for hives and you see the queen.

Having all but one overwinter is awesome! I like the 3 days for the queens before releasing I will be watching to see if they all get accepted, As well being able to have 20 Nucs for other or new beekeepers is great to see! Another great video Thanks for sharing again!

Hoping to create a nuc from my backyard hive this year (won't be for a few more months here in Aus!). Some great tips you shared! particularly which frames you need. Also the queen clip is a great idea. Didn't really see a purpose of them until that demo. Cheers and good luck with the new colonies!

I watch one beekeeping video because I was bored and the algorithm now thinks I'm a beekeeper >.>

I winter single deep in shed, In spring i will add second deep. After time i will go back and shake them back down to bottom put excluder and set top box back on letting BEEs move back up. next day i will remove the top box and excluder and set another box with 6 comb and 4 empty frames to draw out. The box i pull is my split. Easy to add a cell to, add a capped cell on a frame you have or add a caged Queen. Easy splits and no looking for a Queen

I once had 20 honey bee queens sleep under the blanket in my bed, just so they would stay warm and survive until I could introduce them into my nucs. :-)

Honey stead nurse bees are mostly on the frames of larva. They have to feed the larva every couple minutes so they are mostly on frames of open brood. I learned this from Kamon Reynolds. Great video the queen has an awesome pattern.

Well, not for all of us, though. In 27 years of my beekeeping practise I could barely remember that cold a spring! And, my anti-varroa remedy turned out to be pretty freaking shitty, to say no more. So, my bees are pretty weak and I'm so f**** pissed about it! 😒😡😡😡😡

@@KingFisheR00011 I just discovered that my 2 Hives did not overwinter!!! I am very upset but I just finished building 3 Swarm Traps and will now used the old comb to help bring in a new Colony. I have enough Drawn comb to fill 6 swarm traps that hold 6 frames each ...so i have hopes to make it a fun year, sorry this attempt on varroa management was unsuccessful now you know what not to do!!!!!!

I just had a lil bird flutter the top of my head/hair while watching this vid out on the balcony. Shows how intent I was on listening... that or, a reminder the feeder needed freshening up. Just subscribed. Just started viewing bee keeping vids yesterday. But, this.. is the first channel that really teaches & teaches well at that. Ty. Always been terrified of bees, wasps & the like (When I was young I heard my aunt, who could be quite dramatic, talk about how my cousin could die if stung). Fascinating stuff!! I'm sure I'll find a vid, if you posted, on how to winter bees. I'm in Canada, so would be interesting. Again thank you for sharing, and, taking time to teach.

I live in Austin Texas. It was once a lovely place. Now. Not so much. But---meh, can't stop 'progress.'s Any-hoo, they're building houses like CRAZY around here. I absolutely do NOT buy any lumber any more. I've probably made 100 nucs out of Really good OSB called Zip Systems (it's the outer exterior sheathing.) It's crazy expensive...and I get it for free! I make all my hive stands out of Free 2x6s too! I'm to the point where I'm really picky about the grade of wood I get (it's sooooo plentiful!) My bottom boards are also free! They're made out of Advantech (it's even more expensive than the Zip stuff). Still, I wouldn't recommend them for winter. I use them to either sell nucs or for swarm traps.

It does looks a lot cooler than the traditional

I found on my hives will take 3 to 4 days to eat the sugar plug but I have left the cork in for a few days then remove it which will give the queen 5 to 6 days in cage. I have direct released before to but normally they have been queenless for a few days and I watch and see how they react to her and I will come back about 30mins to and hour and check on her

Nice job! Did you keep the queen in her original hive and put nee queens in the splits? I appreciate your videos and delivery!

If you have swarm cells present you should move the old queen when making splits but from what I have been told if they are not present then it's fine to leave queen and I was told if you do leave her and remove all swarm cells there is still a 50/50 chance she will swarm

Do you buy your queens? I actually bought an early Georgia Carni queen and let her hang out for a couple hours then released her but hive had been queenless for a while. She was accepted!

I have sad news. I lost six of fourteen hives . Our area Bee inspector came out and diagnosed those hives with EFB . I immediately removed those hives that night from the bee yard and placed all the frames and bees into heavy duty plastic bags . I burnt those frames . Tomorrow I will be disinfecting the hive equipment with bleach water per direction of the inspector. I haven’t felt good since . Maybe I can make a few splits myself in order to get back to where I was . What a bummer!

That was a hard hit… hope you have success with your splits and may your bee yard multiply and flourish.

I wish I could split one of my hives.....but we simply dont have drones built up yet. Just starting to see a few drones......Here is Indiana.

Did you say that you sometimes do splts with just capped brood? How successful are you doing that method? I have to do some more research for next year. Thanks for sharing your way to setting up nucs 🐝

Capped swarm cells :) and so far we have been very successful! I think only a few times the queen didn’t make it return back from her mating flight 💛

I am not an expert. Just sharing my personal journey.

I think I have a honey bee hive inside a broken folding cloth chair. I've seen bees go inside with pollen and I hear a squeaking/quacking sound inside... inwas going to throw this chair away but I don't want to harm the hive. What should I do?

Contact your local beekeeping club, someone might be able to help save the hive.

Please forgive me , I might step on your toes . Please please shake an extra frame or two of bees in the nucs. Basically every frame should have full coverage of bees . As a customer that buys a few nucs a year I will tell them to make sure the nuc has full coverage on every frame . This ensures a fast buildup once those five frames are put into a ten or eight frame hive . Sorry, that’s the only mild criticism I will share with ya . I love your passion for all the projects you get into . With lots of bee love from Prince George, Virginia!

Hi, surely there is a risk of putting the new hives so close together if you have unpaired queens who need to fly out and then find their way back to the same hive? Is an insecure brand new beekeeper who is trying to teach me everything needed to take care of my first beehive so far, Here in central Sweden out on the coast, my bees are still hanging in clusters ball, the snow remains on the ground and the heat comes first if a few weeks. Sweep youtube on movies about beekeeping for 2 years and really like your channel

she used the queen clip to make sure she did not transfer the the queen to the nuke box by mistake or lose her on the ground. what is missing from the video is her releasing the queen back into the colony after she had finished taking frames to make up the nuc from the hive. the nuke gets the new queen

You don't shake frames of bees into your nucs?
