We recommend setting up your Halibut rig with a 3-way swivel. Tie a 2 to 3-pound weight to the bottom of your line with either a J or circle hook attached to an elevated 3-foot leader.
Any time a halibut has to swim up to eat a bait, it will attack it more aggressively.
Halibut smell their food. The best bait to fish for halibut with is Herring because Herring is a very oily fish. Other baits that work great for halibut fishing are Salmon, Salmon bellies, Octopus, Geoduck Cams, etc.

I love that set up it’s just like we use here in Seward Alaska. Only difference is the circle hook. I have a hard time not setting the hook hard. Love it #BoutdoorsAlaska
What length is your leader and weight drop line also which 3 way swivel you prefer ?thxs
I used these with the Team Catfish weight slides to make a kzread.infoUgkxdmsDj7fQXe77DC0l7P7ua8B3PiESUubM Carolina rig and they were perfect for the ponds I fish. I have also used them to make 3 way rigs and these work perfectly. Haven't had any issues with them snagging in rocks or in weeds yet.
What's the rod reel and braid setup? I have an Okuma Celilo 50-100 lb rod with a Penn 60LD loaded with 100 lb green braid and was curious if that's a good setup... I have that same rig as far as the weights and swivels go

How long is your sinker line and your hook line?
Super oily! You can see it at 1:30.
I always find that this type of rig gets twisted badly in any type of current.

Never used a 2.5 lb ball 8 Oz ball takes 5 minutes to hit bottom 248 yards, Last wrap on spool And a big salmon tail
We use giant circle hooks, but used salmon heads for bait, and killed ‘em.

I can't imagine wasting Salmon to catch Halibut.
