Very well explained. Thanks for that. What could also be explained is that it is the Google device that is the weak link in this chain. My bedroom is situated through 3 walls, not brick, concrete or cinder just drywall. According to my phone I can get excellent signal on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. My wife who uses an Apple iPad has no trouble with the apps and games "phoning home" and has never lost signal so never bothered checking her signal strength, it just works and she is even further by a little bit from the router. But the "poor old" Google Home Nest can't find the signal. I know that my Asus router is one of the best in the market for WiFi signal and have been told it can be picked up down the corner, 100M away. This poor reception with Google devices is all on Google and it appalls me that it would know that and then release products that "fix" their own manufactured issues. So go buy your Google fixes or buy a different product entirely and problems such as my situation, disappear. Meanwhile Google could build in a slightly longer antenna in this Nest device so it actually works in a decent WiFi flooded area.

I have a ethernet cables connected to my TV and also a shared printer. How do i handle this when I switch to Mest network? Possible to maintain the ethernet cable connection. I am using SingTel broadband and my router has 4 outlets. Thanks

Great video man. I was looking to get this but a lot of people recommend hard wiring two google nest routers together vs going with the google nest router/point option. The claim is that there is substantial loss of speed in the wifi point vs just hard wiring another google router. What was you experience? Thanks.

Hi; thanks for the video sharing. I have been wanting to have the router to replace my present router, however, what keep me back from getting one is mainly becos most of my automation devices are on 2.4. And from what I know, I can’t to get chose for a device to be on 2.4 or 5 right? And also, if I do the switch will all my devices on 2.4 from the present router be switched to the google router 2.4 automatically? Appreciate if u are able to share any information you know of, thanks.

If your want your Nest WIFI to co-exist with another network just use a LAN switch than you don't need bridge mode.. I have my workhorse Netgear router still hooked up. Returned my first NEST wifi when one of the wifi points was bad and kept showing a weak signal. Google had me change the DNS twice, third time it went down I took it back to Costco. Had new NEST up for 1 month, so far no weak points.

I just upgraded to the Google Nest Wifi (GNW). Does anyone know how to make GNW to show virtual machines in the device page? I can't set static IP's or seem to get port fowarding to work. This behavior has really frustrated me. I can not seem to find any information on the net. When I purchased GNW I didn't know of the lack of browser interface. Also when I pause a device, if that device goes to sleep, that device disappears of the device list. So I can not resume it's internet access until I wake the device up. If I could I would return GNW for something with more traditional controls.

I have the new google nest wifi and the older google wifi with 400mbps speed I recommend placing each point at most 3 rooms the farthest from each other I’ve never noticed any bad connections with 6 rooms in one row in my house (if that makes sense) The connection is great , the speeds are awesome although depending on how good your network carrier is reflects in the speed the google wifi will give I give this wifi a 8/10 becuase there should be more features I’d like in the app and just because technology is technology and technology can fail at times

Question: My house is pre-wired with LAN connections throughout. As you stated, the NEST ports don't offer the LAN connection. What would you recommend for someone who is looking to create a mesh network by taking advantage of the LAN connections (pre-wired house) throughout the home? I have installed the Google NEST, and I cannot get good coverage throughout the 4,000 sqft four-story townhouse. One side of the home I get 150Mbps and the other I'm only getting 50Mbps even though I have moved one of the ports to the location with the lowest download speed. I'm looking forward to your advice. Thanks!!!

Hi Rafael! Yes, we would totally recommend for you to utilise the LAN connections. Perhaps you might want to connect the Nest Wifi router (via LAN) to a part of the house that requires the fastest internet speed. Then place the Nest Wifi point in a secondary location. Alternatively, you may wish to purchase another Nest Wifi router and switch it to operate in Bridge mode.

2200 Mbps for the routers & 1200Mbps for the Points. However you can use routers as points if you want, at extra expense. I use 2 Nest routers and a single point. One of my routers is in my TV room and another is in a spare room with a switch connected to it. I have a extra LAN storage attached to that as well, we do a bit of graphic design. I've also tried the Asus ZenWifi ax. The Asus is faster but was still missing a firmware update or 2. I had to restart it sometimes whereas the Google system just works. It's remarkably stable, sets up the mesh quickly when restarted (power outage) & delivers good performance. It's scalable in terms of coverage but not quite as blisteringly fast as the Asus ZenWiFi or Netgear Orbi. If you don't have gig fibre broadband then it's the one to buy. If you do I'd consider the faster and pricier WiFi 6 systems. I might dust off the Asus again as I believe they fixed the roaming problem & the reboot issues in firmware updates. This often happens with Asus. They fix a lot of bugs over the first few updates.
