I love Mike's positive attitude toward Subarus and EJs. Instead on joining in on the EJ hate bandwagon, he actually enjoys figuring out how to overcome the limitations and then gives us all that info for free

Plus he realizes that Subaru doesn’t build $100k super cars or $1mm hyper cars. Everything is engineered to a price point. 🤷♂️

I would love to watch an hour+ long video of mike just going over suspension geometry, it would be great if he was able to get underneath a car again and physically point out parts and explain what they do, how they do it, and best practices. I do my due diligence when it comes to learning about performance but suspension geometry just seems so daunting. Thanks MotoIQ!
And here I was hoping to rebuild my own Subaru myself. I’ve seen many people do 450whp dyi builds so I was really hoping to rebuild mine with a blown headgasket.

You can with correct machine work.
I find these cars are the most balanced when you’re at 300-330whp. all the reliability upgrades like AOS, cylinder 4 cooling mod, EL headers, oil sump and oil pickup are a must. I also use water methanol to further reduce detonation. Great video! I always learn something new every time!

It really all depends on what you intend to do with the car. If you only plan to do "spirited driving" and light tracking every now and again, then taking out a second mortgage probably isnt the right path. Chasing ridiculous numbers is a fools game. Sure you can get 1000+ hp, but then you cant drive it around, or in this case let your daughter drive it daily.

Incredible analysis on the car, I had never thought so many elements go into a build…you’re educating me, thank you

This is one amazing buiild... I want it! (And I don't even race, or speed, or anything.) There is so much information packed into this video, I learned things I didn't even know I needed to learn; multiispark coils, baffled oillpan, chasis stiffeners, and it just goes on. Great video; I'm glad you included a drive. (He describes it a kind of "OEM-plus build! This thing is tricked out to the max!)
I don't even have a subaru and I've saved this to a playlist. So much gold in this video for enthusiasts of any level.
Love watching your guys video's. I always come away with something to think about and learn.
Thanks for sharing, I think this is the information that needs to be shared. Going 10milion Hp, is not really the answer. Having a realistic goal and understanding limitation will help accomplish a great, reliable build. I have been following you since I was young, now I'm a dad and I pass your knowledge onto my kids...and they are also part of the subie nation
This is my first time seeing a full screen shot of Mike and I never pictured him wearing tapered black jeans and vans. You’re the man Mike.

I did pretty much the same path with my car.. like 80% of it. Not know much I did ask a lot of questions and sometimes I was treated like I was over spending on the project.. today I hace a 570whp on ethanol and 470 on pump gas… the car is running good since 3 years ago and believe me when I say I drive it hard I do without getting worry about it… great content… thanks for sharing your knowledge !!!

very cool, very informative. I like this guy.
Great video... Theres an intuitiveness with all vehicles. If you know you're car well you can push it. It's something you feel though.. it's not something taught. Ive gone from Hondas to Subarus which have all seen track days and ive yet to catastrophically pop one. Now I have an Alfa though which has also been tracked... Gluton for punishment I suppose.
What a humble sounding subaru. Use to Subarus with 300 wheel sounding so violent

500 hp is excellent. Nice. Great work.
I'm not too sure I've seen any other videos for other car manufacturers on how to build them so they don't blow up except for Subaru but of course they don't suck they just have to be built a very specific certain way lol

@flyingmonkeyofus69 well if you want power you need to spend the money. They are reliable stock, the issue is when people increase power without spending the money first. GC8s were more receptive to this and they are way lighter which meant lower power increases made a big difference. GD and beyond not so much. Add to that Subaru wasn't a massive company and they were trying to keep cost to consumer down while developing at the time.
