    That’s what I was saying…they should have created their version of the WNBA dream team. Have Candace since she is retiring as her last dance, have Diana as her last Olympic run, have even Sue, then have the new guard with Caitlin and Angel then have the top players in Aja, Sabrina, Bryanna, Jewel, Alyssa, Naphessa and Kahleah…it would have been a way to honor the past, the present and the future to grow the WNBA both at home and internationally…a totally lost opportunity! The amount they could have gained by just having Caitlin with the veterans would have been a benefit to also help end the talk of jealousy and hatred by having them being seen taking them under their wing learning from the veterans, growing friendships…

    The one thing I noticed is the argument that it's beneficial to have Clark and, to a lesser extent, Reese is coming from mostly the MEN. A vast majority I heard from WOMEN are stating the opposite of its merit over popularity. To me, WOMEN are being blamed for not growing the league because the MEN wasn't going to support these women in the W to begin with and are the main ones, outside of genuine Caitlin fans, who feel they can speak for both men and women as to how to grow the league and it's by putting Caitlin as the face of everything regardless of whose most talented or whose MVP or has a ring. Caitlin brings more eyes to MEN watching the WNBA. Most of them aren't going to watch the Olympic women's team dominate knowing they will because they never cared. If you are never going to CARE, that's not growing.

    You are not necessarily wrong but you only are thinking local (USA viewership) and they are thinking globally, like it or not the girls already represent the feature, and they are already growing the league by being on the news ALL THE TIME, think about it, all this extra drama and time in the news does nothing but help bring in new fans, grow interest, now showcase that shit globally, help yourself by showcasing your feature to millions and millions of little girls all over the planet that will watch simply because she is in, simply because she is in the news all the time, this are the type of players younger generations are rooting for, I understand merit, and I would normally agree, but you don't piss on your feature only because your vets might have a problem with it, KG is right, the Olympics is where the knowledge is passed on, where the odd friendships begin, that's exactly how it works in men’s, it's a proven formula, it's the smart thing to do, they need to stop acting like the new gen it's going to be carried without contributing because that's not the case, they are already contributing, and they will ball given the chance

    I understand that some Black folks, like a couple of my siblings, feel as if they are "traitors to the race" if they don't big-up Angel Reese when Caitlin praises go up. Stop it! This charity praise for Angel is ridiculous. Angel is not there yet. Even the championship title game won by LSU over Iowa was due to a reserve player who came off of LSU's bench and hit seven 3-pointers in a row - didn't miss one shot, to win the game. Yet, all of this talk about Angel and nobody even mentions the LSU player who actually contributed the most to win that game. Angel's antics outweigh her basketball playing talents. Angel wasn't even the star player on that LSU championship team. Even now, Kamilla Cardosa is a much better and more efficient player than Angel, but it's Angel's antics that keep Angel being talked about more than Cardosa. Angel should not be considered over Cardosa for any spot.

  • @awelch31

    @awelch31

    Ok, you’re just saying ish now. I’m an LSU guy. Watched dang near every game that season. Angel was dominant. That reserve player you’re talking about is Jasmine Carson. She hit five 3’s in the first half and didn’t score at all in the second. It wasn’t “due to” her, it was a blowout. Before that she only had 11 points the entire tournament. I loved that moment, but that’s what it was, a great moment. I agree that Angel is not there now, but don’t act like she wasn’t a force in college. They had a great team, but she was the anchor and the star, unquestionably. And I think you missed the point entirely just so you could go in on “some black folks”. Gtfo of here with that bs. I’m so tired of people bringing race into this. It’s understood it’s CC, but the point is bring in more young ones with their fan bases and let them learn. Not to mention, I personally would love for the young players to spend some time together too, dream team style.

    @@awelch31 You proved my point - you're an LSU fan. Good for you. I don't care about you, LSU, or Angel Reese. You and LSU are not relevant to most other people who watched women's collegiate basketball over the past couple of years. That is why the only person who stood out to me on LSU's championship team, and to the people that I know, was the LSU reserve who hit the seven 3-pointers in that title game. And although I had not been familiar with Iowa and Caitlin Clark back then, yet I realized that Caitlin's game was special whereas Angel's game was not and still is not. Angel has not garnered accolades on the level of Caitlin Clark. It is people like you who insist that there is a rivalry between them - it's not. Many like you have attempted to insert Angel into Caitlin's story. You've shamed the media into accepting that story for fear of being labeled racist. Although I too am a Black man, I can still speak the truth about a situation that involves Black people. I find it embarrassing to Angel to shoe horn Angel into Caitlin's narrative. Angel needs a lot more development. Caitlin just needs better teammates. That's the difference between them. Better teammates for Angel means less playing time for Angel. Better teammates for Caitlin means greater accomplishments for Caitlin. Another difference between the two players. Angel is not nearly as marketable as Caitlin and neither are the other Black and White players in the WNBA. One more difference between them. Many want Caitlin's rewards without possessing Caitlin's attributes. Caitlin ain't popular because she's White. Caitlin is popular because she's RIGHT (for the occasion). Her preparation for this moment did not begin at Iowa, it began when she was still in diapers. Now go figure that riddle out.

    A lot of people are knew fans and think they know the W. just because she has hype doesn’t mean she’ll be the best fit for the team. There’s a time and a place to grow the game. But the Olympics are about winning. Besides the old heads on the team. There a players better then CC. And that’s just facts. She shoots like Steph but her games isn’t efficient like Steph and that’s okay she still a rookie with room to improve that’s why she was left off.

    Angel cannot add anything to the Olympic team. Shooting 33%beneath the basket and expecting Angel to keep getting her own rebound to attempt to put the ball in the basketball, eventually, is not an asset for the team. Angel shoots the ball as if she is off balance. Her shooting percentage underneath the basket is proof that she is actually off balance. Angel Reese can't benefit the Olympic team, she can only hurt it

I would think Team USA would be loyal to the young players that rocked the NCAA. like in the old days. they should make room for Clark plus two or three, special considration for gold medalist youth players. gotta have experience next time. Clark did things in college NOBODY had done before. Why is it so hard for Team USA to recognize that? Isnt that the spirit of Team USA?

    The WNBA is lucky enough to have the NBA, an elite league that has gone through many changes over the years. They get to see first-hand how it changed and how it positively effected the league. Steph Curry for instance, his style of play was foreign to the NBA back then, the extreme volume shooting and ridiculous accuracy from the logo to even half court shots. His success changed the NBA. Caitlin Clark is currently one of the closer players in the WNBA that somewhat resembles some of Steph Curry's game. We've seen what that combination of playstyle is capable of in the NBA. Why would they go to such lengths to try to bring her down rather than go along with the ride? Why do they actively want to prevent the WNBA from getting more fans and earning more profit?

You're in denial if you say LeBron James' son doesn't move the needle, especially if he plays with him. But you're arguing my sarcastic point, it makes zero sense to pick someone based on popularity and politics. And don't tell me Clark is the goat, she leads the league in turnovers and technical fouls and just had a 3 point game. And she didn't get to tryout because she was still playing. But I get it she's your baby and you want to bend all rules to give her a blankie and a bottle. Carry on.
