How Unai Emery & Monchi Have Turned Aston Villa Into Top 4 Contenders
Спорт
In this Premier League Review, Statman Dave takes a look at how Unai Emery & sporting director Monchi have turned Aston Villa into one of the best teams in the Premier League and asks the question - can they reach the levels of Emery’s 3 time Europa League winning Sevilla? Is it all down to Ollie Watkins? Will Douglas Luiz continue scoring goals? Can they finish in the top 4? Find out on The Premier League Review.

I think Aston Villas midfield price to performance ratio is nuts. Luiz - 15 million, John McGinn - 3 million, Kamara - Free, Tielemans - Free and Ramsey - Academy

And we had Grealish who came from the academy - £100 million
I think it's just over a year between playing West Ham under Gerrard and then under Emery at Villa Park. One game was a turgid, grim watch where no-one seemed to know what they were supposed to do and we lost to what was a poor West Ham team, the second game we blew away a very good West Ham team with ease. If they hadn't benefitted from a wicked deflection for their goal which gave them a bit of fire we'd have won even more comfortably. Very good analysis of the Villa. The best I've seen yet.

If I recall correctly, West Ham hadn't even scored a goal yet that season when we played each other, let alone got any points, and were as you said looking very poor - then they faced us and left Villa Park with all 3 points and a clean sheet
Great video, as a ST holder and AV supporter for nearly 50 years this is the most progressive football I've seen at Villa Park. Like Alton Towers the good rides dont last long so im just enjoying it while it lasts 😂
Dean Smith deserves a massive shout, half the team are his signings!
great stuff! your presentation is detailed, technical and comprehensive, yet still aimed at the layperson. i learned a lot from you. cheers!
The tactical variation each game has been unreal.
I really respect Emery's tactical knowledge and decision making. Took his appointment at Villareal for me to pay attention, but glad he's back in the premier league
Love this video, thanks for covering villa! From the stat you said at the start only salah has had more goal involvements than Watkins this year, is that all comps? Surely Haaland has more? Ive never seen such a magician of a manager at villa park, emery a different class of manager. So glad to have him! Cant wait for Moreno and Ramsey to vome back soon!
Great analysis Dave. 👍👏
I hope this video is entertaining, I typed this out bored as I waited for the 45 seconds of adverts to play out.

Since Unai took over we have been brilliant he's totally transformed us and it's a pleasure to watch us. UTV
Superb analysis. Thanks.
Great analysis, really enjoyed your insights. Thank you. Unai Emery proving to his doubters that he is one of the best in the world. Hopefully he’ll guide them into the Champions League
Love it Statman 👊
Excellent video
I've decided I really love your content. You came onto my radar a couple years ago when I used to watch The Kick Off and that moron Rory Jennings flipped out on you over nothing. Not sure if a clip exists of that but he should be embarrassed.
Monchi is a savage scouting gems at bargain prices, or almost free. he’s done that consistently for like 15 years
Good job 💜💙
What app are u using mate?
Class video mate!! Subscribed 😎
we went from thinking Aston Villa would be the next Man Utd with questionable signings like Coutinho and Boubacar Kamara on massive wages; to this well-organised, well-run club

Kamara a questionable signing? He was already playing champions league football. I can't believe we managed to sign him as he would've had the whole of Europe offering him a move. He was class already. He's only like 23 or whatever
They've been amazing since Emery
The future is bright! UTV!
Unai emery the man ,the myth the legend..l think monchi is up there with beppe marotta when it comes to masterstroke signings
Think our big issue for hitting the Top 6 will be how we struggle to break down low blocks without someone like Buendia. Can see us dropping points against weaker teams similiar like the wolves game.

Yet the only defeats we have are against 2 of the better teams
It's nice to see us finally recognized - thanks Dave 😁 (P.s Come back to TTV)
Monchi hasn't done anything yet apart from a loan deal, he was late joining Villa during the transfer window.
For sure they really play well
Good video, sort your editing out though mate
Great and very fair analysis
How is Monchi getting credit? the only signing he made has been Zaniolo who has been questionable. Haven't watched the video yet but i can't see how he's responsible post intro.

Diaby, Tielemnas and Torres were all done prior to Monchi.
hey Dave, great video as always, but as a personal opinion, i wish you would go back to your old method of explanation in football, you know, the animation, and stats, the way you explain it, it made u very peculiar and very interesting from the other channels that also "analyze" football. this comment may be swallowed with the ones to come, but i hope you give thought to what i say, your old method made me a huge fan, and the new style of description just lost your touch. thank you

We're still releasing 1 animated video per week, usually on Wednesdays or Thursdays. This kind of content is what we moved over from the clips channel 😀
He is world class
Having the best goalkeeper in the world helps too

Emery deserves ALL the praise on the pitch but Monchi will be the one who determines how far Villa can go with player recruitment
Yes, lets overlook them getting stuffed by Newcastle 5-1 on the opening day, being beaten in the Europa Conference by Legia Warsaw and out the EFL cup to Everton. They are on a decent run, but top four looks a stretch to me.

You mean one bad result when they’ve won nearly every other game even European teams like PSG struggled against Newcastle at Home. Also Villa played their second team in both those cup games you mentioned if they keep their full strength team in the league I don’t think it’s a stretch.

Most Villa fans are not thinking top 4. Top 5 is a possibility I'm hoping for and then England getting an extra CL spot. The Newcastle game was not as one sided as you would expect without watching. Mings was taken off injured in that game and it really affected things. Torres was forced into a debut when he likely would have been eased in over time. Sir Alex Fergurson watched the game and said he didn't understand how we got battered. He said we were great. We were much poorer in the cup game against Everton but are we going to predict league tables on a teams few worst performances? If so, We hammered Brighton who themselves beat Man utd and Newcastle 3-1. There has to be 5 teams in the top 5

Good explanation Dave, it's clear to me you know your onions mate. As a Villa fan I watch every Villa game & think we're playing some great stuff since Unai Emery has managed us,but now I understand our systems much clearer thank's to your tactical breakdown. Now I'm more impressed than ever, great job mate. Up the mighty Villa!!! 😮😊

Let’s look at these defeats, Newcastle we lost mings which clearly affected the team and Newcastle are also a very good team, the Europe defeat we played a very weakened team as did we with Everton 😂when we play at full strength you can clearly see the difference. Are you a blue nose?😂
LMFAO!! Nope. Not top 4. Top 6 at a stretch.
@GuitarJammerJohn

They were literally a point off top 6 last season and that was with a terrible start with Gerrard they have a better squad this season and look even better than last season so don’t know how top 6 would be a stretch top 4 is difficult but I could see Villa sneak in fourth.
@outofthetrash5925

Personally hoping for top 5. Top 4 is a stretch especially with European games to play. I don't think top 6 is a stretch at all. It would represent a good season but not a great one. Take away City, Arsenal and Liverpool and in each of the rest of the top 8 sides, I bet you could find 4 players were an Aston Villa player would start ahead of them in that side. Dougie Luiz starts in every team with the possible exception of City.
