This week’s film breakdown analyzes the San Francisco 49ers Left Tackle Trent Williams. Williams has developed a tell which tips off run and pass, but that doesn’t seem to matter when he goes up against star pass rushers. Defenses haven’t figured him out, defensive coordinators haven’t figured him out, he is simply the best in the game. Williams is just as good against the run as he is against the pass, is there an argument that he’s the best player in the entire league? This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze Trent Williams and the San Francisco 49ers.

    Always good to see O-Line coverage, they get no love because there's no quantifiable way to represent what they do on a purely surface level. Guys like Trent Williams aside, I'm always amazed how teams like the Packers, Niners, Patriots, Rams, etc., are able to consistently produce good O-Lines with lesser or comparable talent to the rest of the league. Are they really that much better in the O-Line coaching department? Is it scheme? What is it?

  • @t4d0W

    @t4d0W

    2 жыл бұрын

    Look at the characteristics of their O-line at times and see how they play. For the Titans and Colts, their tackles are relatively big but inside they are just as big and have key players that help their physical run schemes. Which has helped Taylor (Colts) and Henry (Titans) burst through openings and beat their smaller matchups to break through even bigger gains. Same for the Pats O-line who are big enough to take advantage of smaller matchups which Belichick will have his RBs just attack through physical runs. And also mobile enough to work in play action where you see them run out in space to block for someone who catches the quick pass and they just maul whoever is in front of them. Overall those groups have experience working together for so long that they can consistently produce great results. Talent definitely helps but the cohesion matters most. Niners among other few teams may have that rare collection of talent and cohesion which makes sense as Shanahan/Lynch focused building their team on the trenches. Next to the QB, O-line men have to account and adapt for changes in defensive schemes or else the play being executed gets scrubbed by the defense getting theirs.

    O-line men may not be the statistical darlings, but they are most def the QBs darlings. When that pressure or blitz comes and the QB can get his time to throw the ball and stay untouched, they know how valuable quality O-line guys are. Same for RBs too where those O-line men get them the ideal matchup they really want to get those long efficient run gains consistently. Plus they definitely set the tone when that group of O-line are big and mean and the D-line men across them aren't so big and mean. Then the defense knows its going to be a long day.

I'd hedge my bets he's probably the best left tackle that has ever played for the 49ers, and that is saying something after having seen stalwarts like Joe Staley and Steve Wallace play that same spot for many seasons. PFF goes back to 2006, and he's current season thus far stands as the highest graded from any player ever regardless of position. I know he can play a few more years for my squad. Remarkable he was able to beat cancer and come back stronger than ever.

    Great insight!! You may confuse basic fans that actually think QB’s are the best players in the league. 😆 Trent is indeed scary-dominant. I love watching him play. He and Aaron Donald might be the 2 most dominant players in the league….in my opinion. Keep the videos coming. I can’t get enough. Thank you. 😌🙏🏾

    In martial arts, an effective defensive method is to redirect the opponent's momentum to favorable directions for oneself. This is especially important when you can't match your opponent's strength or speed. The strategy is to tire your opponent out. Bruce Lee won his matches with bigger and stronger opponents this way. Jeet Kune Do, Lee's own style, literally means The Way of the Intercepting Fist.

    7:00 minute if tackles understood how potent that club is for extra leaning D ends would save a lot of time an effort kicking an catching. Trent Williams is the best of all times in my opinion nobody can hold up as well as him.
