How tough is it to be a Senators fan right now?

Спорт

Emily Kaplan and Carlo Colaiacovo join Bryan Hayes to discuss if the Senators have done enough yet with the addition of Linus Ullmark and some depth signings to stack up with the top teams in the East who have also improved early in free agency.

Happy about Perron and sad to hear Pinto wants out. A little concerned they got worst offensively compared to last year but hopefully with the improvements on the back end, especially goal-tending it will be a positive difference. They need to see a big step forwards from Stutzle and Norris to have a chance at playoffs. Also need to hope Giroux continues to not age since if he fell off we'd be in trouble. A lot of uncertainty right now but there is a chance of making the post season

The Sens have a good young core. They took a step back last season for sure. They needed to get better defensively. They did that. Sure we wanted Tanev, Zadorov, Roy and other big named D.. guess what.. they wouldn't come here. The only way to get that RHD was thru trade. They got a veteran shut down D for Chychrun and a pick. The return was not what fans expected. But the Sens were never getting back what they gave up. They have balanced the D. Still a question in the bottom pairing if Kleven is ready. I hope he is. Decent defensive forwards. Gregor is one of the fastest guys in the NHL. Perron can play either wing. Amadio can play any forward position. They upgraded their goaltending. The Sens were not going to add any flashy player in free agency. It was about getting veteran help. They did that.. Now it's about getting this young core to play better defensively.

Ottawa takes the cake for the best move so far by any team! We got ULLMARK BABY!! Are you kidding me Ottawa! Hats off to Staios he just gave us what we needed for so long. And you better believe ULLMARK is bringing his A game being a #1 now with all that ice time. All these young lads needed was some confidence behind the net. Now they can focus on putting pucks in the net like they can with their offensive talent and stop worrying about stopping them all for there goalie! I promise you Ottawa is now a FORCE to be reckoned with! Hopefully Green is a good fit. That’s the only thing I’m worried about.

It's tough to be a fan of most team, since only a few get to the quarter-finals. Is Montreal happy? How are Leafs feeling, knowing they are all-in and their window is closing but can't get past round. I think a lot of the problem is the taxes in Canada, just makes it hard to compete. The NHL needs to allow a TAX MARKUP on each team's cap to permit teams to cover some taxes to even things out a bit.

Honestly, as a die hard fan, I don’t hate the moves other than the Perron @4 for 2 years @ 36 yo. Jensen isn’t the sexiest trade but it could work out very well if he can be Jensen of 2 years ago. Look at his d partner in Sandin vs Orlov and you can probably see why there was a big drop off. Playing with a stud like Chabot or Sanderson should help him. Pinto needs to get signed and we’ll see if he wants or can move a Joseph contract to get another 3rd/4th line depth and 3rd pairing. Lots of question marks but it’s honestly more about chemistry than anything. Sens have taken big swings last few seasons on big ticket guys and it hasn’t worked out.

some bad returns on trades (aside from the Ullmark trade) and some boring free agent pickups notwithstanding, the rest of the Atlantic division didn't really get any better, and most are arguably marginally worse. Ullmark's a big upgrade, Perron is an improvement over Joseph, Amadio's better than Kelly or Kastelic, Jensen will hopefully be a better fit than Chychrun and balance out the top 4. These small to major improvements Staios has made also hinge on the young core progressing. It certainly can feel disappointing on July 1 seeing big signings and trades happening, but aside from disappointing returns for Dorion players, I feel pretty good about the team right now. Of course if they have yet another lost season, I'll be the first one to call for major changes.

We've had big signings in the past, don't be fooled by them. We already have the core big names we need, now we need the surrounding pieces, and he's doing that. We won some trades big (Ullmark) and we lost a bit on others, that's how it goes. The team (looks to be) significantly better now, and that's all that matters. Excited to see if they are actually better.

Brady is fine for a few years, quit with that nonsense loser mentality. Getting rid of Korpi's contract and getting us Ullmark was sheer brilliance.
