    I had no clue that it was even ethical that a letter recommendation written by urself for urself was even ethical

    Hello, thank you for your comment. While writing the letter by yourself and sending it claiming that it was written be someone else is not ethical, writing a draft for your professors/supervisors is normal. Many professionals are bust people who would love to write you amazing references, but simply do not have time. Remember, once you write a draft and send it to them, they can change it and make it their own. This is not a chance to fool anyone!

    Thank you so much for this video. I'm applying to vet school and I need 3 letters of recommendation. 2 out of 3 have told me to write my own letter and its kind of hard because I've been my own worst critic and I even avoided applying last year. I want to apply and I know I won't get in on my first try but I still want to try. But writing this and trying to see what the doctor's at my hospital might see about me makes me want to crawl in a hole and cry. I'm an okay person but I'm far from great. I'm quiet and scared but there's no other field that interests me and in a way , its okay if I don't get in the first time, because then I can just keep working on myself and my confidence until then.

    Hi Marina, thank you for your comment. We are all our own worst critics. It is completely normal to lack confidence when you write about your own accomplishments and strengths. However, it is important to take this opportunity to think on how far you have come in your journey. If you're having trouble being objective about your successes or failures, use your CV and transcripts to help you write your own recommendations. Remember, you need very strong reference letters when you apply, so it might take you a bit of time to compose a stellar letter. Do not feel discouraged, try to have a positive attitude and focus on your achievements when you write. You can always check out this blog (bemoacademicconsulting.com/blog/how-to-write-a-letter-of-recommendation-for-yourself) for more tips on how to write your own recommendation letter and reach out to us if you need any more help!

    Great advice... one of my uni choices (undergrad) asked me to write a letter for myself in third person. It can only be 4000 characters long so I’m prioritizing content over form (eg making the style seem super letter like), do you think this is okay? And would you have any other tips for this task specifically?

    Thank you for the video! I am curious that if the admission officer suspected that you involved in writing the LoR, would it be a fetal hit? I've heard two different opinions about that. One group of people say it is acceptable because the letter was really signed by the referrer - at least he or she has proved that the content is true and honest. One group of people say the application will be denied because you are not honest in the progress.

  • @BeMoAcademicConsulting

    Hello Ben! Thanks for your wonderful question! Firstly, as long as your referee signs and submits the letter on their own, you should be fine. Secondly, remember, your referee may adjust or edit your version of the reference, making it more their own. In any case, as long as the letter meets the requirements (letterhead, signature, deadline, etc.), there should be no problems.

    It might be an odd question but our faculty is very small and I might need to ask some of our lecturers ("only" PhDs) for a recommendation letter because we don't have enough professors in my field. Will not-having-profs-only have a negative effect on my application?

  • @BeMoAcademicConsulting

    @BeMoAcademicConsulting

    Hi, thank you so much for your question! While status and experience of your referee are important, it is more important if you worked with your referee for a prolonged period of time, if they have graded your work, and if you had the chance to demonstrate your strengths during your interactions. A lecturer is a perfectly good referee, as long as they can speak in detail to your abilities, your potential, and your characteristics. If you get the chance to draft your own letter, you can even mention that your department is very small that your instructor has had the chance to get to know you very well over the course of your interactions.

    Thank you for your question. Did you check if your school accepts individual reference letters? You can ask different individuals who were/are your superiors like profs, research supervisors, and even work supervisors to be your referees. If you school committee is not providing a letter, try getting some individual letters instead.

    Yes, I have a question, more like a request. How would you write a letter of recommendation for yourself to be reviewed and signed by a person know to not give positive or negative points about anyone. Thanks in advance I really enjoyed and found your video useful.

  • @BeMoAcademicConsulting

    Hello Moto! Thanks for your question. If you know that this person will not sign the recommendation letter that you wrote for yourself then this person may not be the right reference for you. Your "writer" should be eager to support you, so if this person is hesitant to provide their support, then it's probably better to find another referee who will fully support your candidacy.

    Hi, I’m applying to a medical program and was asked to submit two letters of recommendation. Firstly, this video helped because it was my first time writing my own and I wrote both. The application asks me to mail in my application and supporting documents to a given address. It also mentions that the references should mail in their letters to the same address. Do you think it’s wise to submit the letters of recommendation in my packet, but of course sealed individually or should I have my references mail them on their own?

    What is the minimum time of knowing someone to have a valid recommendation letter? It is ok to use a recommendation letter from a professor with whom I only worked for a month on a project during a research stay abroad?

  • @BeMoAcademicConsulting

    @BeMoAcademicConsulting

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thank you for your question. One month is a fairly short period of time, but if this project was really meaningful and you got to know the professor well - it might be worthwhile. Most importantly, this person should know you well: your strength, your skills, and speak to them accordingly in your letter.
