How to Write Vocal Harmonies with Little to No Music Theory Knowledge | Make Pop Music

In this video, I shows you how to find the harmonies of a song with little to no music theory. I show you how to duplicate a track and manually create your own harmony as a rough guide for yourself or a vocalist, and how to take a root note and establish a 3rd and 5th harmony easily.
(p.s.) Sorry if I seem a little low energy or scatterbrained in this video. It has been a hectic couple of weeks and it took a little toll on me. Hopefully by next week I'll be back up and running at 100%.

    Been doing the drag it up, and sing that - method for 6 years. And then one day.. my mind made harmonies by hearing the lead... It's all about time and repetition! 😁🔥

    This is what I use for my harmonies and it works really well. I use Izotope Vocal Synth 2. I record the lead vocal track, then I play the chord progression of the song on piano. Vocal Synth 2 has a MIDI mode. Split your chord progression into each track having 1 note of each chord (so usually 3 tracks, 1st, 3rd, 5th) Send the midi into vocal synth 2. It will generate harmonies that always sound great. I then solo only 1 midi track (say the 1st of each chord), and I learn what vocal synth is suggesting and record it. Repeat for each note. At the end when you play all the tracks back you have a nice modern 2-4 part harmony that sounds organic!

    HEY Austin. Question: I've always rapped and I am now currently trying to write pop songs. My biggest challenge is probably the pronunciation of words and flow. Rapping is more like spoken word, but singing is a little more different. I guess my question is can you please make a vid on: why on your own songs you choose to pronounce certain word this way or maybe slightly go higher or lower pitch on certain words

    1. I love the outro song. Your vocals and the mix sounds amazing - is it available on Spotify? 2. Confused about the function "Convert to Real Copy" - I didnt know this existed and I don't understand why this step is necessary? 3. When you were in VariAudio, all your notes appeared in red at ALL time. For some reason, I thought VariAudio showed notes in red only when "out of key". Am I wrong on this, or is it a feature that you turned off??

  • @MakePopMusic

    @MakePopMusic

    4 жыл бұрын

    1: Thank you so much! The song is out. It's called Even Though It Kills Me :D 2: Convert to Real Copy makes it so that you can copy an instance of something, and then process that alone. For instance, if I copy a snare and reverse it, it will reverse every instance of that sample unless I convert to real copy. 3: I didn't have a key set in Vari Audio. I hardly use the key function but you definitely can!

    man... I had no idea you could manipulate vocals like this. I am an acoustic musician who is stepping into the world of recording and mixing. I can use Photoshop and I have been using Audition to record vocals so im not completely computer illiterate, having said that, I am completely lost watching this video. Do you have a video that would help bridge me from where I am now, to understanding this video?
