Really liked the note-writing tips & tricks you gave! Also cool that you can work so closely with your institution's EPIC team to help make changes like the refreshable i/o to improve clinician workflow !! hope ur doing well :)

MS3 here, still learning how to be efficient with Epic, echoing a prior comment, would you be willing to share your progress note .phrase template?

Thank you for your videos. They are great. Is it possible that you can make videos that apply to nurses too? Thanks in advance.

May I have a guide to create the preround note?

These are great but I would love to see some videos on using Epic for surgical attendings. We use Epic in a very different way. I don't look at labs or write these types of progress notes. However, I do need to write op reports and revise clinic notes written by scribes. I also need a way to send thank you notes or operative reports back to referring physicians. I also want to run analytics on who's referring patients to me.

Appreciate if you explain how to create smart phrases?

Thank god someone believes in the same philosophy. So many attendings and uppers keep giving useless advice of hand writing shit when theyre all just repeated in your electronic notes any way lmao. I just present off my note too and change/refine shit as we round so i dont need to re write.

@Conan Liu, M.D. How did you import the last bowel movement into your progress note template? I use epic at my institution and am trying to create a dot phrase for it; currently, I always have to check the I&Os tab but it’s too time-consuming especially when I’m pre-rounding 10 patients every AM

Great video. How many hours do physicians spend with paper work per day? Do you do this notes in the end of your day or while talk to pacients? Is faster to dictate? Do you spend more time with pacients or doing paperwork? Thanks🙏

Please tell me what your dot phrase in epic is for the scheduled medication and prn medication. I realize that it might be different at my institution but i have been looking for that simple format for so long!!

It varies from institution to institution. Try typing .? into your EMR and it should pull up a list of all the available smartphrases! I think ours is .RRPRNMED and .RRSCHEDMED and .RRIVMED or something like that, there's actually quite a few duplicates as well that all pull up the same info

The EMR my facility uses does not have the dot phrase option. what is a workaround?

how do you make the tables with the invisible/dotted lines, for example the box around your scheduled and PRN meds in this template?
@ConanLiuMD

There should be a "create table" function in your notewriter if you look for it! Sometimes you have to click on a drop down list that will show all of the features, and then you can set some as frequently used so that it shows up by default

I work in a rural hospital in Australia, hospital utilises paper handwriting for progress notes, how would you approach that more efficiently ?
