How To Write A Light Novel In English (From Start To Finish!) OELN

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi everyone! In today's video, I talk about how you can write your own light novel from start to finish. Light novels are a form of short novel which are very popular in Japan. Usually they include not only words, but anime pictures as well. Light novels are much shorter than regular novels. The average length of a light novel is about 50,000 words. They are usually published in bunkobon size which are about A6 size. 10.5cm x 14.8cm. Usually there will be multiple volumes in a light novel series. They usually start off in Japan by being serialized in anthology magazines, before being collected in book form, similar to how manga is. Some popular light novel magazines in Japan include Dragon Magazine and Dengeki Bunko.
Light novels follow usual book writing methods, with a few exceptions. Light novels are very character focused, meaning that the stories will normally be told through the focus of the main character. Not only that, but light novels are usually told in first person view, and follow the main character's journey. In this video, I talk about how you can develop an interesting light novel character, and how to write dialogue for you light novel that suits their personality. I also demonstrate the basic plot structure of exposition, a rising action, the climax, falling action, and resolution. You can follow this to help bring your light novels to life.
Thanks for watching! I hope this video helps you with your creations 💖

The main problem I am currently facing with my novels is creating the covers, especially in manga style. I can draw, but my skills are not there yet and lockdown run me a bit too dry to commission proper cover arts. Artbreeder is a life saver in many ways, but it's only good enough for creating young girl characters. I managed to create a half-good male lead face claim after a month of torture. And that's obviously not enough. And I have no less then five novels under production. Is there some advice for my situation?

I think light novels are good for people who want to write their own story/build a Wattpad portofolio but they don't have much time to craft a highly planned proses or long paragraphs This is what I'm doing now. Rather than wasting my time too much browsing for the correct phrases and description, I'll just write the simplest thing first, do the editing here and there on the evening, and continue with my other activities. A chapter update is still a chapter update nonetheless :D

I completely agree!! I actually used to write fanfiction, because it helped me to drastically improve my writing. I felt like I didn't need to overedit or overthink, I just wrote a story, and saw how it went. I feel like I've gotten a lot better at writing because I wrote fanfiction. 😊 I think it's a good idea to focus more on doing the simple writing, because it's a great way to improve and just do it!!

im completely new to writing and ive been heavily inspired by series such as the emotional impact of Re:Zero and the careful and amazing worldbuilding of Moshoku tensei, i love how they introduce characters in a way that either makes you hate them, mistrust them, or like them right off the bat. And the amazing mysterious wonder of Made in Abyss and how it makes me feel so much for the characters. I know as a beginning writing i will never make a masterpiece from the start, but i hope with the help I've gotten from the writing community that i will eventually make something that is definitely not a masterpiece, but rather something that i am proud of.

This is a wonderful video and it covers alot makes me wish i could make any kind of novel. I've written books and even fan fiction but I've never really posted anything or even tried to get out there and the 1 time I did find someone willing to edit things for me for cheap, they more or less told me I suxed and more or less. And they started rewriting my whole book and I didn't like that so ive kinda been trying to work up any courage to do anything since then... and about the only thing I have posted out there now is a fan fiction a short story of a show I like but I haven't checked in on it since I posted it to nervous to be talked down to again for my bad writing or ideas...

This was awesome. Really great info. I’ve been brainstorming with no intention of writing anything since 2016. Recently as a form of therapy for myself I started writing down all the ideas I had still with no real intentions. in the last month that has changed dramatically. At this point I’ve created several dozen characters and I’ve actually started writing what would be the first volume of this hypothetical series. I’m roughly 15k words in. I would love to have somewhat of a dialogue with you if you have the time and would be so kind. Maybe through email. Even reading a bit of my work so far to see if I’m on the right track if that’s something you’d be interested in after hearing the details. Thanks for uploading so much great content for me to check out and take care!

Thanks for this helpful video. I had story idea when I was in the bus and so I thought of writing a light novel. I don't have a title for it yet but it is a story about a family which is being attacked by an organisation. This organisation is after the female generation of the family for some secret reasons. The mother of 3 children (2 sons and one daughter) died because she was killed by the organisation. The father of them is the only family they have left. It is their task to protect the one girl and so that's the basic idea but it is much more than that. The past of the family, the founding of the organisation, their goals and why they need the female generation of this family will be revealed in the story step by step. It is a story about family, cohesion, love, secrets and inner darkness. Your video helped me so much, thanks to you. I hope I can publish this story in the future and also...sorry for my bad english haha. Greetings from germany Edit: I'm also sorry for the rough summary of my story idea but it is still in progress and I need more time to make a detailed plan of it

Great video, I haven't seen anyone else going over the topic of English light novels. One think I would like to point out is that most novels (including light novels) are actually written in the third person. This is because is helps to clarify exactly what is happening and if feels smoother to the reader, and most people don't notice most books are written like this. As an example: "I've had enough, I can't take this anymore" Subaru gritted his teeth in frustration Reads better than "I've had enough, I can't take this anymore" I gritted my teeth in frustration Take a look at the last book you read (light novel or not) and you'll probably notice this. It's not universal but it is significantly more common to use third person

  • @tardybloomer

I've explained the plot and the storyline to a few friends of mine, some who are Japanese and read Light Novels, and they all have told me to write it down.
