How to write a good application for the Clinical Psychology Doctorate (DClinPsy)

**Prepared for the Aspiring Psychologist's webinar** Video 1
How to write a good application for the Clinical Psychology Doctorate.
I'm a second year (nearly) trainee clinical psychologist, and in this video I talk to you about how I took my application from a big NO THANKS in my first year, to getting several interview offers my second time around.
I talk about each of the four main written components of the application form (personal statement), what I wrote my first time around and how I approached things differently in my second year to get a better result.
HAPPY to take questions on my ramblings!!!
0:00 Intro and background
2:16 Question 1 - Write like a person not like a robot
5:27 Question 2 - There's more to life than publications
7:25 Question 3 - Think bigger
9:33 Question 4 - Don't try to be Mr/Ms Universe
11:28 Get to know your universities!!

Cannot express how encouraging I have found this as someone attempting to use the robotic, generic approach and fearing I am losing myself in the process.

Yayyy! Glad you liked it Cindy :)) I haven't explicitly stated... I guess because I want to be clear that my views are my own, and it also makes me feel like I can be more myself without worrying about how I'm "representing" my course?? If that makes any sense haha... it's not a secret I am happy to discuss in a more private setting just don't want to shout it from the rooftops on youtube espesh if they haven't consented to that lol

@@TheWorryPeople I LOVE THAT! I totally get it, and yeah just feeling your vibe and how you are able to connect with your audience in such an authentic and YOU way!! Really inspiring 😇 Another question but relating to the application, did you get many people to read it? If yes, how much of their comments actually changed what you wrote? Haha! Thanks so much in advanced!

@@cindyjoyce2866 So lovely of you to say - thank you!! Re getting people to read it - the first application was read by my dad and my supervisor at the time. My dad actually gave pretty harsh (and on point) criticism but I wasn't in a position to hear it LOL... but over the course of the year it must have sunk in. 2nd time round I didn't actually send it to anyone, I kinda knew what version of myself I wanted to put down on paper and knew I was happy with what I had written so I went for it! Hope that helps :)
