We had a couple of hens that looked like that and when watching them close, we realized that they were the rooster’s favorite ladies and he was pulling their feathers off mounting them so often. This is good info to watch for because I would have assumed that was the problem again!

You are correct and it was a combination of both. With all the rain this year everything staying wet makes the mites a bigger problem than normal. I removed the 3 hens and have them in another pen to have time to grow few feathers back. Thanks for your comment.

Only thing i would add is to repeat in a week to catch any mites that have freshly hatched (they hatch in 5-7 days) and can only breed and lay eggs once they’ve have a blood meal so you’ll get the new hatched ones that way and break the life cycle👍🏻They can come from wild birds getting in the pen. Great video and I’ve used Ivermectin too, works a treat

You are correct. I should have said I repeat that in 14 days. Just once a year myself.

Thank you! One more bit of info to note. I read every comment on this topic. This is invaluable for folks like me who want to take the best care of our animals. Chickens, dogs and cats. The dose information is labeled for livestock. I did the math for my small Americanas but I am still researching to get it right. Love this channel!🐔God bless♥️

@@papawsplace 14 days is a little too long for mites as they will have matured, fed and laid more eggs in that time👍🏻

First and foremost, I want to say I'm no vet, so check with your Vet if you have concerns. ....but I have never had any issues with any of the animals I gave it to. Even when I give it to them oral.
